The building on the opposite side was an abandoned consulate of a completely different country. Diplomatic protection only applied to Iran’s consulate building itself. They did not have an entire complex. They just rented part of the space in the Syrian private building next door. The military activity against Israel there made it a legitimate target regardless.

Did the Palestinians vote on the creation of Israel? Did the British represent their interests? It was the settlers who came from overseas who invaded buddy. The land grabs in the west bank and the military occupation is invasion of their land. The international community (or even Israeli law) doesn't recognise the legitimacy of the 300,000+ settlers there yet they continue to do what they do unabated and unchallenged. There is no basis to declare that Hamas are "terrorists". If you occupy and control another persons land and they resist then under international law that form of resistance is legitimate and justified. Israel has acknowledged the missile attack by Iran was an act of war. Isreal has stated that it will respond appropriately, therefore although Israel has not formally declared war on Iran, they are moving in that direction. Israel could bring about massive damage to Iranian civilian and military infrastructure. Iran already is fending of internal insurrection aimed at the government, which could be again wiped up more massively if the Iranian people had to pay for ill considered actions of their questionable government.

Iran? How it took them more than 8 years to stop the war conflict with Iraq if they really that good? This guy is a resident with no real qualifications as a political analyst. It's not really very important that Iran is weak economically. They've been stockpiling weapons for ages, and they're well stocked for a protracted war. The issue Israel has is that it's a tiny country, with a tiny population. The cost of the Gaza war, the evacuation of citizens in the North of Lebanon has taken its toll. 3 salvos a day could cost $2-3B a day, they've already received $18B. Pretty expensive for a nation with 7 million people. They also have a problem with the onset of huge commodity price hikes that could be very problematic for allies & the global economy, in addition to the fact that bombing a population that hates it's Govt and has had good historic relations with Israel (only 2 non Arab nations in the region) is also not great politics. 90 million people, big land size, its not a walk in the park.
