@@SWDude2710Republic Clone soldiers are genetic copies of Jango Fett, a Mandalorian which are the people who kicked the Republic’s ass. Much longer lore dump. Fett himself was the Mand’alor, which is like the King of the Mandalorians, and killed a dozen Jedi with his bare hands during the Battle of Galidraan where the Jedi wiped out the majority of the True Mandalorian warriors leaving Mandalore to be fought over by the New Mandalorian pacifists and the radical Death Watch. Death Watch won eventually despite Republic support for the New Mandalorians with brief reigns as Mand’alor by Pre Vizsla and Darth Maul and another civil war between the Kryze and Maul factions of Death Watch after Pre Vizsla was killed for the throne. Maul’s faction was defeated by the combined forces of the Kryze faction and the Republic 332nd Company led by Ahsoka. Directly after this the Empire was declared and the reunified Death Watch transitioned into the Imperial Super-commandos and accepted Imperial rule although their leader Bo-Katan Kryze did not.

I like the old republic designs, especially for ships. All the technology tends to be blocky and slower while also invoking similar modern Star Wars designs. All the fighters are larger than the modern ones and the navy is largely built up of cruisers and frigates. Like the harrower class which was the backbone of the sith’s navy was around half the length of a imperial 2 star destroyer. And it helps show some technological growth between then and the modern Star Wars era.

The English 'Brodie' helmet is similar to medieval kettle helmet designs and the French 'Adrian' also has a medieval style to it. Another kind of off-topic but fun fact is that Sweden was the last to retire the tricorne style hat from military uniforms in favor of caps and helmets, also around WW1.

He hired fellow true Mandalorians, declaring them dead and taking them to Kamino to help train clones. Jango saw it as an opportunity to preserve the warrior culture of the Mandolorians. Old Republic troopers is like a sign that the Empire isn't just a government that defeated the Republic, no. The Empire is the Republic, it just got corrupted from within and destroyed itself. That is why the Alliance to restore the Republic wasn't recognized as a legal counter party, but as rebelious terrorist organization like the CIS was. Republic Armor is also of higher quality. The SWTOR encyclopedia states that standard issue Republic Armor is made of Plastoid which is the material Clone Commando Armor is made of. Then higher customized Republic Armor like for Havoc Squad is made of Durasteel with Cortisis underweave and has Shield Generators.

@@gocharsispa2558 exactly, it's just a way for players to say "oh those guys look like the clones, they must be the republic" without designers really thinking about where clone armor design came from and failing to research that there's an established reason for said design. It does kinda make it lame for me because they literally just wanted clones but had to make the game set before clone wars. But I guess in kotor the republic troops had a design similar to the rebels so it looks cooler than that.

Don't forget, too, the armor shown is from the Havoc squad. The armor on the republic fleet was more streamlined with a fish-lipped style helmet. The colossus t-17 variant looked more bulky and more blast resiliant (it had a weird popped out square-like visor, like it zooms). Although there are general similarities, key one be the T shape visor (tho some look more a greek xi/ phoenician samekh), in general it varies from world to world, and from climate to climate. Is easy to recognize as trooper/guard armor though, no matter in what republic world one is.

I'd mainly assumed that a chunk of the look was also the appeal to history and tradition there. The basic design being something that would work to also make the Clone Troopers fall into the visual lineage of the Republic Troopers designs as a modernized version of the same thing and implying the history and tradition for the new force there. I think that part of the same thing also applied to capital ships with a lot of the designs being heavily modeled off of classic/famous military designs in universe.

A T-shaped visor would actually be very useful in the real world. The base of the T would be a great location to add cameras, and other sensors, such as depth sensors, IR or thermal scanner, and other optical equipment - close enough to the eyes for easy adaptation by the user, and along the outermost ridge of the helmet, allowing for best lens angles to cover as much battle-space as possible. If I were designing a futuristic helmet, I would definitely take inspiration from these design cues.

Kaminoans had knowledge from Jango, Dooku, and (in a way) Syfo Dyas. Being that Dooku had great wisdom, he probably considered designs from the ancient republic to be implemented as a disguise with slight mandalorian touch that wouldn’t ring the alarms to the current republic, furthermore considering Republic-age Mandalore is kinda good to the Jedi but the historic background not so much
