It seems that most people who hate Fire Emblem are older Nintendo fans who never grew up with Fire Emblem. They only knew FE as the series with two anime swordfighters in Melee and Brawl as kids and were already adults when FE first got big with Awakening. They see FE become a bigger series and get more characters in Smash, and it upsets them because something they didn’t grow up with is getting this big push. They also take it out on other JRPG series like Xenoblade and have a disdain towards JRPGs and games with an anime aesthetic in general if they aren’t the biggest franchises. Nintendo’s been getting more the Japanese market over Sony and Microsoft and more games that appeal to them, and it upsets the older Nintendo fans who never grew up with any of these kinds of games, not just FE.

People hate FE? I have...never heard this xD Outside of smash I guess. But as an FE fan, I also kinda hate FE in smash xD And it's _BECAUSE_ I'm an FE fan. It's so disappointing to have such little representation for anything other than sword users. It makes sense to include the main characters, and the main characters almost always use swords, I won't deny either of those points. But it's still super disappointing for me.

Yes agreed, hopefully in the future they’ll add some Fire Emblem characters with different abilities into Smash and then maybe Smash players will stop complaining about “Anime Sword Fighters” XD

I'm going to be honest the thing that bothers those Smash players is that all of the Fire Emblem reps wield swords, 6 out of 8 have a counter as a down special, 6 out of 8 have a default blue color scheme, 4 out of 8 have blue hair, 7 out of 8 are decent competitive status, 4 out of 8 have the same silluette and all of them are from the same videogame series.

i dont really see fire emblem being hated on at all outside of smash fans who dont play fire emblem honestly fire emblem does very well for a kind of game it is its one of my favorite game series so i got some bias towards it but yeah i dont really think its hated on that much its just that its a strategy jrpg so its appeals to less people do to its genre but who cares its like one if not the best selling series in its genre so yeah pretty sure smash bros fans are like the only people who hate the series

It’s not. Never met anyone irl that hates it. It’s under appreciated Though Engage only got initial hate because the characters from Three Houses were so much better than in engage. But it’s not a game for everyone. You raise a lot of points to why it isn’t popular but it’s not necessarily hated. Good video :)

Yeah I agree, however I went to college with someone who was a huge Smash fan and he would constantly complain about the Fire Emblem characters. Personally I think the games are underrated it’s just there’s a loud minority who have pushed the narrative so I made this video to set the record straight

I’ve never played Fire Emblem games until Awakening showed up because as soon as I was told there was perma death in the older games it felt too scary and heartbreaking as kid but as soon as I was told that Awakening has finally added a casual mode so you can keep your units after they fall from battle which allows me to enjoy the franchise to the fullest, was I disappointed with Byleth? Indeed I was, not because it was over presentative but Sword lords protagonist is all we have, like we don’t have any pure mages without any weapons, no brawlers, no armoured units, no flying units, no cavaliers, no pure axe or pure lance, and no final boss ect. This is pretty much the only thing I didn’t like about Fire Emblem characters in Smash, I’m glad Byleth has a unique moveset but it didn’t take long bfore I moved on for my next main in Ult, I can see the frustration from Smash players but the way they behave themselves is the biggest reason, why Geno, Shante, Dante ect didn’t join Smash, I tried to warn the others but I knew better, did anyone think that Sakurai will grant the most wanted characters by harassing him and sending death threats when unwanted characters showed up? Absolutely NOT! Its not fire emblem that ruined Smash ultimate its the toxic smash community themselves who ruined it for everyone, as far as I can tell, Sakurai was going to secretly put some fans favourite who are the most requested if others would behave themselves but he changed his mind as soon the Smash community behaved like children, if we were going to have a Smash 6 its probably going to be our last chance to get fans favourite, just don’t harass Sakurai or you won’t get what you want. That is all!

I mean i was not a Fire emblem fan as well until Awakening showed up, but i just don't understand why even couple CC and people hates a person like me I mean everyday I feel like I'm alone with nobody to be positive about the game especially Heroes i just don't understand why the community is just like in garbage tier i mean I played Heroes until to this day, but I feel like I'm being threatened by others because I was same as your level but I just don't see the positive in the community like I know it sounds way too harsh for me and inculding Fe fans, I don't know why people acts like a not behaving correctly and being like a jerks everyday, so I get your feeling even yesterday I disliked the FEH community which it was so negatively that I almost wanted to concede and never return, like it was so disappointing I found that PM1 is the only one that's positive to all FEH community but the others that were doing like they don't seem to understand i literally just felt so heartbreaking that I never ever wanted to return, which made me realize if the community hates me only but not the others, like that's my biggest concern about this community, like i just don't find anything good except negatively around me everyday, so I get that feeling that as a First time FE player it can be really boring and not fun because it's single player mode, like i just don't feel like i don't even belong in the FEH community the spinoff game which I played it for several years. Like, what's the problem with everyone? Is commenting really that disappointing? Like, i literally thought it was a decent community thanks to Awakening savings, but nope, it's way too harsh, and the people that I coversation with they don't even want to talk to me not even a single CC's..

My gripe with Fire Emblem’s representation in Smash Bros (as a big Fire Emblem fan) is the over representation of swords. The last two characters, Byleth and Corrin (and Robin too I guess), offered some more unique designs (this is because they’re mechanically atypical from regular characters within their own games to some degree) but as for all other characters they feel like generic swordsman (which, to be fair, they kind of are). This is annoying for people not familiar with them as characters but it’s also annoying as a Fire Emblem fan because the franchise offers way more weapons than just Swords and those other weapons are proportionally severally underrepresented (basically all the characters I mentioned represent non-sword moves but even they are primarily swords users). This is exacerbated by the fact that most RPG fantasy or action fantasy MCs also use swords primarily, it makes anyone who uses a sword feel more tired and overdone rather than stand out.

Look if you want a real reason then know this first, Fates and Awakening have more positive reviews than engage, many veterans loves the older fire emblem games and dislike the new ones, since the release of The three houses the game was very seen as more positive since well.. sales were sold three times better than Engage and Engage sold a lot less, also in my opinion only i feel like most of the time whether sales went too low or the older ones were better like Awakening for example which was supposed to be a last major FE game it was at least good, I also have a feeling there are a divide between newer FE players vs old FE players, let's say the older ones dislike the newer ones like Engage for example, as for older ones the newer ones say that it's fine like Three Houses for example and also due to the fact that smash developer released Byleth the negative views on the fire emblem characters have gotten so much worse overtime and the dislike ratio is even much more worse. I'm not complaining. I'm just really disappointed with how the fire emblem is now awakening and fates. Like, are we rewinding to the past, not current, because all i see is negatively and no enthusiastic everyday like what happened? Before 4 years ago it was enthusiastic but now it's not enthusiastic so just because you don't like the newer mechanics of FE don't mean that all of us are negative and not enthusiastic, like since when did the less entertaining became so common? Even the Fire Emblem OST that i listen to is there are absolutely no comments like back in the good old days there was so many positively, like what's going on with fire emblem community?

Not really , most Switch owners and Nintendo fans liked the recent FE Games. Look up review scores of games like Three Houses , Three Hopes or even Engage and they all have good to very good review ratings. Fire Emblem Awakening is also widely considered to be one of the best games on the 3DS by many Nintendo fans and Awakening has very positive reception overall. I wouldn't say Fire Emblem is very hated at all by most Nintendo fans , it is only hated in the Smash Community due to overepresentation that it gets in Smash when compared to other franchises . Naturally most people wanted to see Dante , Goku , Master Chief or some other character that wasn't a Fire Emblem Character in Smash and then they were angry when yet another Fire Emblem Character was announced for Smash. Thus that is why Fire Emblem is so hated in Smash .

Yeah I know, that’s why I made the video as a counterpoint, I play Smash and tbh I don’t have a problem with any of the Fire Emblem characters being in the game, my issue is the fan base in North America overreacting to the characters being in the game
