I think the success of last season coupled with the disastrous end shook Norvell and caused him to cut corners in actually scouting portal talent. A lot of our earlier portal pickups were diamonds in the rough from smaller schools. It seems with this class Norvell just assumed they were good because they came from big schools.

They aren't stuggling with the portal, they are struggling to recruit and retain elite high school players. That's a big portion of the problem

Just look at what GA, Miami Texas and Ole Miss got. FSU got all those bench and unproven products. FSU needed to get a few proven players instead of bunch of reserves. Coleman was proven product as well as verse

I think they missed on this portal class it’s as simple as that. Many of these players weren’t starters on their former teams. In hindsight they could’ve skipped on a QB all together.

Nil is influenced a lot by the local market opportunities, no? Maybe Tallahassee isn’t as attractive as a potential money maker as Miami? Is the future of smaller town schools in trouble? As a player, do t I have a lot more opportunities to get my face on advertising in bigger populations like Atlanta, Miami, LA? And then schools like ohst, their local advertising base is the entire state, no?

I think you're spot on. Although, I'm sure schools are all funding NIL backdoor, though. Top recruits will just be getting no-show sponsorships.

Bad evaluation of player's especially QB. If you don't have a good QB you can't succeed. There were plenty of choices at the QB position the staff picked the wrong QB. I understand missing on other players too

Zero on the field leadership players. The seasoned guys like Payton or Farmer need to be such on D and Maurice Smith on O. You can’t expect a first year portal player to be an instant leader.
