Looking forward to see the fruition of HIV research for a cure too! Thank you TDK for asking about the extremities of various scenarios that might be of concern and also teaching us so much through discussion. What spoke to me most was that many fear people who have HIV, but how much more fear would people living with HIV have then? It's sad to know they struggle being accepted by society, when they're struggling to accept themselves. That's a huge load to carry around everyday... I hope to be part of a world that will seek to understand one another more and build each other up (:. Thanks Dr Wong for doing what you do!

Another fantastic and informative episode! 👏 The willingness to cover such taboo topics is very much appreciated. Watching this episode, another taboo topic comes to mind: the sex industry. Now with the pandemic, there is no so-called regulated red light district anymore at Geylang. Yet the sex industry is definitely still thriving, just underground as you still see articles on raids at houses or the whole KTV saga. With them being underground and unregulated, the spread of sex related diseases within this industry would likewise be unregulated and therefore more widespread logically. So the question is should sex work be regulated and controlled or because its so taboo we just drive it underground and pretend it doesn't exist? Perhaps that should be talked about too.

If the viral load is so low that it's undetectable, how would tests determine whether the patient is still positive?
@Germaine42542 жыл бұрын
when the viral load is so low that it's undetectable, its technically not positive already since their immune system is functioning at normal. the virus no longer bothers the immune system.
@farland7892 жыл бұрын
You will always be positive once you get it.
@jiawei09172 жыл бұрын
tests includes testing antibodies. antibodies will never leave your body. hence if there's antibodies, it means you had the virus.

Can't speak for most but for me it's not so much a taboo, but a reflection of personal choices and consequences. I think it's blatantly wrong to discriminate against singaporeans who already have the condition, but that also means its their responsibility (given its something they can personally control 100%) to ensure the virus does not spread further.

I'm going to dispute what Jon says at 46:55 where PLHIV should be more open with people around them about their circumstances. The fact that not many PLHIV are willing to be open, shows that there is still considerable fear about being open with one's status, be it for their careers or further discrimination.so I don't think it's fair for him to ask for PLHIV to be more open about their status, especially if they don't feel like they are in a safe space where they will not be judged for it. It comes off as incredibly entitled that PLHIV need to explain themselves(?) My own two cents. Also, was hoping for PEP and PREP to be featured in this discussion
