When a country has a large amount of RMB in hand, they can use RMB to purchase Chinese products or purchase products from countries with currency agreements with China! But when a country has a large amount of rupees, they can only be put there like paper!

While the cross border dispute between India and China is still a hot topic, we mustn't lose sight of the fact that India and China cannot just pack up all their belonging and find a more friendly neighbourhood to live in. So essentially they have to find ways to co-exist, whether they like it or not. China's ascension is no accident. Hard work, dedication, stability, coherent governance, and above all, good planning. I am sure that India would one day be just as powerful as China. Why the optimism? Because Indian people themselves. They are very similar to the Chinese themselves. Hardworking, and intelligent. Here's why. The CNY is the fifth largest reserve currency, while I can't even find the Rupee on the list. I can understand why Indians are upset, but currency nationalism is impractical and ill-advised in the international marketplace. The best would be to get a BRICS currency that is guaranteed by the BRICS Development Bank. Meanwhile, the CNY is the only available option that makes economic sense for both countries.

But to get CNY you need to find willing CNY holders to sell for Indian Rupees in sizeable amounts....in the end, why would they want to hold rupees if there is nothing of value or cheap to buy from India and holding rupees would have risks in offloading to other unfortunate buyers.

US strategist believed China is pursuing to remove USD and using RMB as global currency. This is around 5-10 years ago where US news and senators urged the danger of RMB that will replace USD. However after many years, RMB is still way below value of US forecast. Now we can see that China is reducing the power of USD by using entire World's currency. If US gov and allies sanction a nation from using Dollars, there will be hundreds more options to trade.

Few months back Palki was extolling the virtues of INR as future reserve currency and BRICS opening its own currency as Rival to the $$.Now reality has set in. INR is useless outside india , except in few places like UAE, Singapore, etc. Russia complained that it don’t warn Rupee for its oil. So Renimbi is the default currency for oil purchases from Russia. This makes india even more subject to Chinese currency manipulation. Also my question is how is india getting the yuans ? Only bright spot is that Indian refiners are getting windfall buying discounted Russian crude and selling diesel and refined products to Europe, making Ambanis rich. The arrangement suits US as cheap Russian oil keeps market stable while reducing revenues to Putin. Russia China can put a squeeze on india anytime.

All we see online is Hindu virtual signaling about colonialism, but ignore what Russia is doing because it benefits them. India hasn't sent even a blanket to Ukraine. It's the option of BRICS currency, if one has excess amount they can opt for others so the balance is there. Doing business is a willing seller and willing buyer arrangement. If Russia wants to sell their cheap Russian oil to India and in return require yuan payments so that it can buy all sorts of Chinese manufactured products, then India has a choice of whether to agree to this arrangement or not. This is a major setback to India. It shows how weak Rupee is, in the face of the euphoria that Rupee is going to replace US$! In the face of the currency war against US$, this minor skirmish will blot out the big picture. Russia isn't (simply unable to) buy goods from India. It is a flaw in the trade between the two. All the same, it is the Russia-PRC trade that comes to the fore, even though "through India"! India needs to re-think her strategy that needs to be wholly recast. India is poised to export her agricultural produce (only the so-called third world countries) only in a big way, that will fetch less in comparison to engineering good & such. It reminds me of the words of Kota Harinarayana, father of "Tejas" aircraft. He said in a lecture, "one Tejas will bring us as much foreign currency as a hundred thousand tons of Basmati rice" ! The solution is simple. Just cut back the Russia oil consumption to the level before the Rupee/Ruble direct trade agreement. The reason Russia runs a huge surplus of Rupee is that India takes full advantage of the agreement to boost it oil refinery industry by import 3-4 times as much oil from Russia as they used to. That may be the reason for the first time India GDP suppress UK in 2022 although India will eventually suppress UK in the long run but the sudden jump of oil refinery income certainly speed it up. It is all driven by greed.

@@isshiomi6364 Chinese luxury car brands like hongqi are investing in Russia and reaping a lot of benefits as they don't have usa or eu operations. Plus sales via third parties to russia is being encouraged by Chinese govt something which Indian govt is not doing. Indian govt should create shadow front companies to export to Russia jaguar, land rover or western brands at higher markups to reduce the deficit.
