Syria lost the Golan Heights when Israel defeated them in the Six-Day War. Syria has actively engaged in hostilities against Israel from 1948 on, most recently supporting proxy groups like Hezbollah in their hostilities against Israel with the goal of wiping Israel off the map. Does anyone actually believe that Israel is an existential threat to the country of Syria? Or question why Israel would be concerned about the present power vacuum in Syria and seek to further secure their own borders?
