I totally disagree with all your points. I, myself am a MS student in US and I feel that life is very subpar compared to India. You will be a slave if you are on visa. Even breathing freely with freedom has it's own merits. I can be anything I want in India but in US it's impossible on H1B and your opportunities are limited. I agree that India has it's fair share of problems. When the population is so high, it's really hard to maintain cleanliness. Even crowded cities like LA, SFO are extremely dirty. The expenses in US are really high. The ratio of salaries to expenses is almost the same. Having 1 crore INR in India is FAR better than having 150k USD in US. Most people stay in suburbs and feel life is better, but that might be the case in India as well. Food is extremely cheap in India. US is totally capitalistic and no one cares for anybody there. The buying parity for an individual is roughly the same. People get pseudo happiness thinking they earn more, which is not the case. 100-150k USD is roughly equal to 15-20 lpa in India. If you are a billionaire, where you stay wouldn't matter. For anyone else, it's just a normal life like any "average Joe" Bangalore is having so many startups and Unicorns as well ! Inmobi, Flipkart. Swiggy, OLA and many more. I think it's way easier to be an entrepreneur there compared to here. Literally every street has people in US and no one considers it niche any more. You get zero additional respect if you are from US. Survival of the fittest is obviously present everywhere. Raising a family, education can get extremely expensive and you might lose out on a lot if you decide to settle in US. I don't understand why people don't talk about all these, I guess I need to have my own channel and bring awareness ! During old-age I've seen a lot Indians (who've become Americans) suffer massively. It's not so glorious as you think.

@abhitechie Dude common Service based companies treat you like that(TCS,infosys,wipro,CTS etc..) Try working in Product based companies i've worked with 2 product based companies in Bangalore for the first 3 years for Amazon and then Microsoft and I've never felt like that U have stated ,my manager appreciates my work every now and then got promoted twice,got leave whenever I wanted and enjoying good work life balance with above market standard pay cheque and challenging work environment with amazing peers Don't work for service based companies if you want to climb up the ladder in Software profession. I have a maid(which is impossible in the US),can visit my family with no unnecessary visa hassle once in a month,own a car and more importantly no loans to pay off. And there are a lot better schools in Bangalore for children education than in the USA. If you are skilled,then you can get a high paying job anywhere in India. Bangalore now has world renowned tech companies like Microsoft, Cisco,JP Morgan and chase,Juniper Network,Goldman Sachs,Morgan stanley,SAP Labs,Nutanix Technologies,VM ware,Oracle Even Hyderabad has Uber,Microsoft, De shaw,Arcesium,NCR corporation,Apple,Google,Qualcomm etc..

@abhitechie I will not move to the US bro even if they give me a chance ,if it for 3 yrs I will definitely move ( to experience the work experience in an another country) but for life long...naah I'm comfortable working here in India with more than enough salary. P.S:Dude,even i'm from tier 2 engineering college..it's not that difficult to get a job at Amazon or Microsoft or any other product based company as an SDE,provided if you're good at your subject infact very few of my colleagues at my office are from IIT s and other tier 1 engineering colleges..all were from little known engineering colleges,so it's not that difficult to get into product based companies if you work hard and remain up to date and learn the required skills

I hate to say this, but there are many mediocre Indian-origin managers in the US as well who behave in exactly the same way. What I see happening in many of the US MNC's with captive Engineering centers in India is the ironic situation of non-Indian-origin managers generally being very supportive of their teams in India, while some of the Indian-origin managers are not and in some cases they're even downright hostile. I'm even aware of one instance where the Department head is a Pakistani-American who is very supportive of his team in India, but you don't see that same level of support coming from some of the Indian-origin managers. Maybe some of them are on a power trip, have a superiority complex, just feeling insecure about their jobs, etc. But whatever the reason, it's something to think about. I'm not saying that all Indian-origin managers in the US are mediocre or behave this way -- on the contrary you will find plenty of highly professional good ones. Just as not all Indian managers in India are mediocre or behave this way -- you will find plenty of highly professional good ones in India too. The point is, generalizations simply don't help. I don't mean to diminish the negative experiences that people may have had with their Indian managers in India, but just because someone has not yet had similar negative experiences in the US doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

While I respect your view and opinion, I don't completely agree with your points. I lived in the US for 9 years (did my Masters, worked on OPT and finished all my 6 years on H1B), and I moved back to India completely by choice in May 2019. I did not want to file my green card from day 1. Its been close to 1.5 years now that I moved back, and its been wonderful here. When people say - Oh India is not safe, or India is the worst place to work etc etc again they have just taken it into their mind that India is not worth moving back to. Its more of a mindset issue than anything else. India is no longer the country it was 10 - 15 years ago. The opportunities are plenty and the pay has become good too. And most importantly, this is our home country - which means freedom to do anything you like at any point of time. No Visa hassles, No green card headache, nothing. And for aspiring entrepreneurs, you can start your own business any day anytime . And I can also travel when I want to. Yes there are some minor inconveniences, but that is with any country, not just India

One has to make his/her own decisions in life, everything comes at cost. US, life is comfortable but immigration is tough and tricky, US- Lose job, lose everything. Public schools free (nothing is free, you pay school taxes every year) but college is 50X cost of education in India, lot of privacy but no social life, have to be extra careful when you have young children specifically public schools have lot of 'Bad Apples'. Good Healthcare but it can quickly bankrupt you. Best is to use the strengths of both US and India, US- Earn/Learn but stay connected with your roots, always keep family ready to relocate, mentally, physically and emotionally. Never get attached to your job, position, title, compensation specifically when you are above 40 years, its brutal in US for older population

Very valid points sir. My reason to stay in US is - Job locations. I am from a small town in India and I wish we had more IT jobs in smaller towns in India. I love life in villages and smaller towns with less fuss. I had returned from US in-between and tried living in Bangalore for a while , but could not cope up with busy life there. Sadly, I returned back to US and I plan to stay here as long as I can. I still hope to come back to my hometown someday and start some business.

Good video sir. So many people are commenting, India has changed, India has opportunities now blah blah. But there are opportunities only for the IT/CSE field, nothing else. Highly educated research scholars/scientists are living subpar lives here, with meagre stipends. Other fields aren't respected, neither the government is doing anything to improve the situation. So definitely the remaining choice is to move to a foreign country for the sake of one's professional and personal growth. Dude, they rarely work, lack knowledge because they are teaching the same thing for 10-15 years. Most professors in India lack basic knowledge or lack basic teaching skills. Proffesors have one of the most Chillest jobs in our Country because they have to take only 1-2 classes in a Day .

The mentioned points looks more like excuses than reasons. From my experience and having a lots of friends in USA, i have seen 80% people migrating to the us from India, are not capable of surviving in India or are not commited to fight for survival in india once they graduate, only 20% of Indians are from the creamy Indian institutions and the real workhorses going there to make a great career. The main reason the 80% cant come to india is that they are in meager jobs with a good pay and cant fight the skill and talent found locally here. When expecting to migrating to India , you cannot expect the salary that you get in the USA, the economy of both the countries are so different. Its rude to say, India has traffic , overcrowded cities , such a lame excuse. Nothing against any1 in the USA, its just that when in india, people dont wish/care for Diwali, but when moved to USA, people start celebrating Halloween and thanksgiving.

@ Dharmesh. It is not hypocrisy to celebrate local events like Halloween or Thanksgiving. Reasons are around these events the local community collects, also work holidays etc. The motivation is to join in the festivity for the sake of kids & wives who are pretty lonesome the rest of the times in their houses. When in Rome it helps to join the Romans? Diwali in India is overdone. So superficial & hyped up. So commercial? Some desi's who have a thinking mind avoid the tamasha in India. Its not hypocrisy?

Nice video sir!. One important point(which might be more detailed to actually include in the video) is the benefits of social security. Each h1b visa holder pays (social security + medicare) tax. There are 40 credits required to be eligible to get back the social security amount after retirements. For each working year during the employment period a person can earn 4 max credits per year. So 10 years are required to reach 40 credits. So in case h1b visa holder gets back to India before reaching 40 credits then this benefit is gone. Anyone who returns to India after say 7 years(7*4 = 28 credits) is not eligible for this benefit.

They know that ur life , visa and gc depends on them and you are stuck in end less queue. Full times jobs in IT with desi managers are the worst.

I think all the reasons are totally valid. The biggest reason of my move to the USA was to explore and work in a core engineering field. In India, most of the opportunities are only on ITsectors for techies, nothing much in telecommunications, electronics etc.

My only question is ..if he comes to India .. can he go back to his same life as before? hi sir, thank you for your insights. love your content. I got admits from both iims and ivy league b schools for my MBA. I come from a well-to-do family and live a pretty comfortable life in India. would you suggest me to move to America? currently, I'm from Gurgaon and have a good life. is it not lonely in the USA and can one genuinely make good constructive money in the USA keeping in mind the price parity. having said that I would not have to pay any costs ( rent, car, etc ) if I decide to stick with iim Ahmedabad and take up a job in India. what I'm really pondering upon is that a lot of my time will be consumed in doing daily chores which is not so difficult to get done here in India. is the juice and the brand value really worth the squeeze? thanks in advance

There are also many Indians who moved back to India after studying and/or working in the US -- for some it was after obtaining US citizenship, but for many others it was even without. Presumably, some or all of the same 15 reasons outlined here would have applied to them as well, but still they chose to return to India (instead of settling in the US or even in a third country in case the US was not working out because of GC issues). There are always different perspectives on any topic, so in order to get a holistic view of this one, it would be very helpful to understand their motivations for returning to India.

The Professor outlined 15 reasons why people find it difficult to go back to India. You mentioned 3 reasons why they do go back -- and none of these are actually "voluntary". I'm only trying to see what are the 'n' reasons (seems like n is at least 3, but are there others) why people choose to go back. And especially if there are any voluntary reasons. If people can share those experiences as well, then that will help educate everyone.

Now that dream is going to be dead soon, with the Trump in the White House it is really difficult to come here on H1. There already enough Americans to do all IT related roles. But they’re not real people who are not letting Indians come in. It’s the H4 dependent people who are being mostly hired for roles as they’re ready work for lower Salaries as compared to H1s.

In tech product companies only performance matters not staying at the office for long hours doing nothing. Due to globalization companies are now smart, and reward employees based on their performance and contribution.

And that focus on performance translates to a world of difference in total compensation between MNC product companies (both publicly traded and unicorn startups) and Indian services companies for the same experience level. I personally know many engineers with 10-12 years of experience in these MNC companies in Bangalore & Hyderabad whose total comp (salary + bonus + equity) is in the range of $120-150K/year. Granted this is not the norm, but it's becoming more common now and MNC companies are willing to pay at these levels based on the talent. DM me if you want to know the names of these companies.

Saturation, as in population density, is probably not going to be a concern -- the US is still one of the less densely populated countries in the world and will be for some time to come. However, there is a major demographic change expected to happen in the next 20-25 years. The white population is expected to become a minority by 2045: www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2018/03/14/the-us-will-become-minority-white-in-2045-census-projects/ This demographic shift is due to a combination of factors that include immigration, falling fertility rates among the white population and increasing fertility rates in the non-white population, aging of the population, etc. So it will be interesting to see how this will all play out over the next few years in terms of incentives, policies, etc -- i.e., will there be any overt or covert attempts to delay or even stop this from happening. There are some public policy think tanks who feel that the hardline immigration changes and the redistricting of voters in many US states in the last few years are examples of actions exactly in this direction.

Brother these guys who motivate us regarding opportunities in the US are typical uncles who went to US in late 1990's or early 2000's. There are hell.lot of startups and product based tech Companies in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurgaon etc.. The thing is they still think of India as they have seen it in 2000 or 1995. They haven't visited India for such a long time.

Im second time on h1b this time. I am not agree with your point. About salary, I was saving almost same in both places. Quality of work is better in India as most of the development is actually driven from India. School admission it's same in both cases, both are costly. Quality of life, in best society in India you won't have issues. And I am from Pune. But I am serving in USA just because business wants me here.

Many people with MS/MBA from USA aren't getting their applications filled for Green Card by employers like Amazon, Apple etc as they have laid off large number of employees and it becomes very difficult then for such companies to explain to US authorities concerned why they need an employee, particularly when they have shunted out large workforce. How do they justify filing Green Card application for someone, in such a situation. It would become too difficult to file for labour certification for the company. All good and solid points, except education is free in USA. Nothing is free in this world. If you own a house, a big chunk of your property tax goes to school district (called ISD here) every year and if you rent, it's mostly included in your rent. And last, you keep paying even you have no one going to school.
