Bingo on the "safe" Christianity! My eldest step son cannot stand that I will not compromise on what the Word of God says. He thinks I'm a fruit cake. I'm OK with being a fruit cake for Christ. Just my opinion as to why it fails (from a lay person's perspective): * I have heard Christian folks saying "evangelism is messy, I don't do messy." Wow! * They don't want to be confrontational or to have folks think poorly of them (the "safe" Christianity). * People are more interested in being the Pastor's Pet...and I've witnessed many Pastors absolutely go along with that. People see this and know that they may not have the support they need to be equipped to "go out." * It takes guts to proclaim clearly what is so opposite what the culture says is OK and normal. * People think they need a Seminary degree to talk about the Gospel - Pastors are not clearly teaching their flock to go out and talk to the Messy!

K. Popper No problem with loving Messiah, however knowing and keeping the first love of Messiah is what is really difficult. I'm reminded of a scripture. It encourages me to be more obedient to the voice of YHWH Elohim our Elohi,(God). I see fear of being wrong as the real example we should be weary of. So we don't fall short of love of Messiah we must keep him in the light of the whole Word of Elohim. Live it.. Remember when the Instruction of YHWH Elohim was found after Judges? What did the people do? They rededicated themselves to truth. We who "know messiah" should be guided to the Father's word to find Righteousness in Messiah. It fails because it’s an exclusive club comprised of people who all adhere to a specific code of behavior and beliefs and unless someone is willing to conform to the behavior and abstain from asking real difficult questions that may challenge the Christian belief system they are shunned. I converted when I was 40 years old after never having attended church. I have completely given up on having Christian friends after going to 3 different churches and trying my best. I chill with non Christians where I’m accepted and hopefully I add a bit of Christ into their lives. I go to church for prayer and worship period. The Christians I’ve met at church are mostly closed minded, scared, judgmental and as phoney as can possibly be.

Brothers, if I may, I would like to point out that what you are talking about could also just be the sign of the “end times”... things just winding down (or up, depending on your point of view...) Matthew 24:9-13... 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. People could just be rejecting the gospel and hating Christian all the more because the time is fast approaching.

There’s no way around the clear prophetic warnings of the last days in Matt 24, it can’t neatly be described as only meaning the first century. Cool conversation! I'm not on the same page as far as eschatology as these guys - I am definitely more pre-mill, post-trib. But I think he basically said at the start that people don't witness because their eschatology is messed up - I'm assuming pre-mill, pre-trib, we're just all out of here anyway. Just as I wrote that sentence it hit me. People don't witness because they don't think they'll be around - ok, maybe true. But whatever eschatology, shouldn't we see Jesus as ultimately victorious? I am of the camp that believes "Things will get really bad before they get really good." That includes basically all pre-mill including me, a post-tribber. Well, then it's up to me to be out sharing the gospel like these brothers. Even if I believe I will be persecuted. Eschatology shouldn't be the difference in sharing the gospel. Personally, the church has lost it's first Love. That's what I believe. I see boldness, courage, and a love for people any time I check out Apologia's witnessing and online interactions.

To answer the question, is modern evangelicalism failing ? The answer is yes. Law is confused with gospel, gospel is confused with law. 2. The church has been reinvented with man or "man's desires" at the center. All the while paying drive by lip service and dropping the line "Jesus died for our sins" and then moving right into meaningless drivel and false gospel. Mysticism is huge in the modern church and worship services are vapid rock shows. Feelings have replaced objective truth and have become an idol. I could go on, but unless a pastor can say something worth preaching from the pulpit, that convict people of their sin and reveal to them his forgiveness, then it's not worth preaching.

You have to preach the Gospel like Ray Comfort,it's really amazing how Ray Comfort does it because he uses God's 10 commandments to help the person realize that we have sinned against God and are in need of a Savior.The Prophet Nathen did this with David when David sinned against God.

I’m not going to watch this video, i’m going to tell you straight up why. Because Christians don’t back CHRISTIAN MEDIA & ART. Where is the world focused? In media & entertainment. So how do we appeal? Through stories! Through song! We just have to change the medium in which we share thought. Preaching in the chapels is necessary for believers but outdated for evangelism.

Saints have been cleansed and given white robes, etc.”_ Your king received a supernatural spiritual body when he was resurrected. He could pass through solid walls. He could disappear and reappear into or out of thin air. With these supernatural abilities that could have easily been used to convince people of his Lordship, he instead ascended to a _”heavenly place”_ where no one can see him. However, Christ choose you to proclaim his supernatural authority without giving you supernatural abilities. How do you convince a level headed, rationally minded, critically thinking person that any of this stuff is true?

Evangelical means “of good news.” Yet, the news that evangelical Christians offer is only good if one assumes that the rest of scripture is true. If you reject scripture as the infallible word of God, you can still believe in a loving God that wants good things for you. Liberal (non-evangelical) churches promote this message all the time. I know plenty of people who have a completely charitable view of God because that’s simply what they chose to believe; they have no scriptural basis for their belief, whatsoever. Evangelicalism is failing because most of its theology has been made redundant. The question is what does evangelical Christianity offer that other “brands” don’t?

I think an obvious place to start is by learning from evangelists who aren't failing. It's frustrating when other Christians can't see that. It's like they believe the "real Gospel" could never attract a large crowd. I actually heard a variant of this belief repeated a few times during this video. If evangelism were impossible then why discuss it? How did Jesus or his disciples do It? I doubt it was by discussing correct soteriology. They were mingling with sinners, adopting their cultural habits, and speaking the truth to them in ways they could understand. I'm not saying it's easy or that everyone could do it. But it really shouldn't be more complicated than that. If you aren't attracting people then you must be repelling them somehow. I know I wouldn't even be showing an interest in the bible or Christianity if it weren't for people like Joel Osteen or Rick Warren. I actually wanted to listen to them. It wasn't until I read through Warren's book "A Purpose Driven Church" that I could understand why. It has nothing to do with doctrinal purity.

Is it possible that it's because that's actually not the model of the 1st century ecclesia? The apostles were the ones doing the preaching (it's worth noting that there were not pastors or deacons in the 1st century there wasn't even elders until year's after Pentecost) everyone has different gifts. Jeff I don't think you should call yourself a pastor I think you should call yourself what you obviously are. An apostle of Christ. We should rebuild the 1st century and maybe miracles will return and maybe Christ will to. Right now I don't think the church looks very appealing to Christ

Saying it’s because of eschatology is like saying to a Calvinist they don’t evangelize because God is going to save who he wills. You know that’s false and so is the eschatology argument. I would be a pre millennialist but I believe whole heartedly in evangelism because that’s what scripture commands us to do. Are there pre millennialist who think that way? Sure there are what we would call hyper calvinists who don’t evangelize but we don’t blame Calvinism we blame their view of it.

I recall being in a church meeting where some missionaries were getting ready to go abroad and take the Gospel to the Africans. I also recall one brother saying that he saw it differently. He said that when the missionaries arrive in Africa they were the ones who were more than likely to discover the Gospel. I remember the profound effect that statement had on all of us especially the pastor. Today, I would have to ask to whom was the Great Commission given and what does it mean for us? In the context of the Great Commission scripture, we need to ask ourselves what does 'all nations' mean? As most Christians know, a text without a context is just a pretext for what ever you want it to mean.

One theory is that most, not all certainly, but most modern evangelical churches today fail to remember who’s church it is, and they take it upon themselves to feel the need to either water down the gospel, and/or feel the need to “entertain” their worshipers for fear of church flight......leaving and never returning due to their not being entertained or not getting something out of church service. We need to remember that it’s Christ’s Church, and His atoning work on the cross, that’s all a church needs to stay focused on. I see so many evangelical churches trying to use worldly marketing schemes to try to “lure” people to church, when in fact it’s the power of the gospel that does the work. Pastor John MacArthur wrote an entire book on this subject and I highly recommend getting a copy. It’s titled: “Ashamed of the Gospel” www.gty.org

I'm not Reformed but I like the last bit Jeff said and the last guy also seemed like he was speaking from a sanctified heart (not sure how else to put that). Sometimes it seems a bit smug (from outside looking in)--- maybe "over-intellectualized" would be a better way of putting it, or, "attributing to the intellect the matters of the heart," not sure if that is any clearer--- when a(ny) Christian attributes to a doctrinal stance failure to be obedient to Christ--- I know it ties together but I've seen all soteriologies and eschatologies obey and disobey the commands of our Lord and Savior, up to and including the Great Commission. Not downplaying the importance of sound doctrine in the least-- What I am getting at is nuanced (I trust you can discern my drift), but my intent is well meaning, or so it seems to me in my heart (I pray it is also coming from a place of sanctification). You all are certainly doing far more and a larger scope of work for Christ and so I would never disparage only encourage and if this means anything to anyone or perceptions count for anything than so be it. I tell them that’s a good thing because they will destroy you. Jesus told us that we are to worship the Father in spirit and truth. The buildings are pushing the truth out and filling it with lies. The Bible tells us of these evil and wicked doers, they worship with their lips but the hearts are far from Christ. Paul told us that they will be a great falling away, what he said was they will fall away from the truth and obeying the true and loving Father. They are nothing more but loves of themselves and the day will come when Jesus is going to separate the sheep from the goats. Please I beg you to not seek after man, but look to Jesus Christ savior, who loves you and wants you to come and receive Him. You don’t need to go to the building where Jesus has nothing to do with. He loves you and has a place waiting for you to be with Him and the Father. You don’t need man or anyone to teach you this, the Holy Spirit will teach you all things, just ask for Jesus to send you the Holy Spirit and read the word daily. I have yet to see a single biblical example of the churches faithfulness guaranteeing the saving of a culture. Can God save an entire nation? Of course He can. He does whatever He pleases and we should be crying out to Him to save the nations of the world. But I don't understand pointing the finger at the church in America for the unconverted in our nation. We the church are to remain faithful, proclaiming the gospel and practicing holiness. The loss of Christendom in the west has been a blessing because it's purging the chaff out from us. New opportunities to break stereotypes of Chrisitans are popping up because the common acceptance of christianity is no longer assumed in the U.S. Things may look bleak from our human vantage point, but we need to remember to try to see things the way God sees them. His spirit is at work and we should be encouraged and keep going and speaking the gospel. I love apologia, Idk specifically who they're talking about though when they're saying churches aren't being faithful to the command of Christ. There will always be churches who are sheltered and closed off because they're afraid of interacting with secular culture. And some churches have an actual humility, not a false one, when they choose to obey God according to their convictions of the scriptures, and the way they follow Christ doesn't always look exactly the same way that apologia does ministry and evangelism.

The Church has failed its own people, and the Mission too often. If, and when Evangelism happens, which is too infrequent, the next Big Problem is follow up. The Church has done a poor job in Discipleship. In a sense we have become our own Problem, and certainly not Change Agents of Society. We are barely even Change Agents of those who supposedly belong to Christ's Church. Plus, the Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit as our Teacher and Guide has too often been ignored, or not known among us. May God bring true, heart felt, life changing, miracle working, REVIVAL! I have to disagree. Many people that come up to me while I am open air evangelizing that profess to be a Christian tell me that if I would just tell them about GOD'S love they would come to HIM. I use what GOD has revealed to us in HIS word as to what has separated mankind from our CREATOR which is sin and I simply let the text speak for itself. That is what will bring the sinner to repentance. It's funny how "teaching them all I have commanded them" is ignored even after reading it. We do that a lot however. When I talk about obeying the commandments of Elohim and holding on to the testimony of Messiah I'm called a legalist and am in danger of judgment. It's because alot of churches and pastors and ppls views have become like warm and soft. And alot of churches have become more about entertainment and just gettin ppl to go to their church and it's all about inspirational preaching and making ppl feel good and comfortable, instead of gettin out there and doing the commands of God and putting themselves on the line for god's word. Nobody wants to offend or engage anymore because of what ppl always say that Christian's are being disrespectful or rude and pushing their beliefs on ppl. Because people don’t like the old way of doing church. People don’t give a crap about steeples, stained glass, pews, choirs, or long sermons. People like environments that are a little raw, more comfortable, and more laid back and non-traditional and informal. And they don’t care about natural light. People like good music, and colored lights and smoke and good sound systems. And they like to be able to bring drinks and snacks into the worship service. And they like sermons that are shorter and more conversational, and that relate to modern life. And they like to hear about Jesus and His teachings and His love.

It is failing. If you study Christianity all across the world, most Christians have no idea why they believe what they believe. It ends up being cultural Christianity more than anything. Your last statement has no basis in facts or history. You are just making a statement...probably because that's all Christians can do. Make claims that have no basis in reality.
