I just can't understand why no one is buying these best irons of 2024? I really don't get it. These are the best irons of 2024, golfers from all abilities including amateur golfers, mid handicap golfers, high handicap golfers all rave about these irons but it seems that no one is now buying them?
I take a closer look, test and see what is determining this best iron of 2024 and why I think no one is buying them anymore. There are so many irons out there on the market and all golfers want to know what are the best irons of 2024, best irons of 2024, new irons of 2024, best irons, most forgiving irons.
Why is no one buying the best irons of 2024?

@@mathvignon Personally, I'm not sure it's worth the money to upgrade, my numbers with the same shafts were about the same but with the standard True Temper 115 mid shafts they spun a lot more and went shorter than the True Temper S300 in the 21s. I ended up with Nippon Modus 115 which helped with the spin. I wish I had just upgraded the shafts on the previous irons.

We are 3 guys, late 50's early 60's playing for the fun but it got a wee bit serious and competitive recently. Research done the trick for me and Wilson was my choice, Launch Pads and the amazing Utility Iron, don't really need a driver but the Dynapower is ordered. Now scoring between 5-7 over per round. Can't promote Wilson enough for game improvement clubs. Great video.

After trying out a demo club, I snagged a minty mint used set of D9 Forged with graphite shafts for shirt buttons. They look, feel and play great, and in a similar vein, my grandson just grew out of his last set of US Kids clubs, and at the advice of his club pro I picked up a set of ladies graphite shafted D9’s for him, plus Wilson LP driver, 5w and 5h once again for no money. These are great clubs at sensible prices, especially for my grandson who’s growing like a weed. I know I’ll get most of my money back when it’s time to move him up. I think Wilson kit is quietly cool. 😎

I’d say that you made a smart move in choosing Wilson. They sell their clubs at a price point that is much more reasonable to more people and the main reason that you don’t hear more about Wilson is because they have decided to market their clubs differently than the big brands that everyone hears about. A lot of the popular big brands usually have a whole stable of professionals pushing their brand whereas the only professional that I’ve seen promoting Wilson is Padraig Harrington who is now spending most of his playing time on the Champions Tour. Not quite the same cachet that the PGA Tour has. Marketing is such a huge part of selling golf clubs and those that do it the best must have massive budgets to do so. You know who ends up paying for those massive budgets I hope.

Just bought myself a combo set of the latest Wilson irons as well as three wedges. I’ve been a Titleist player most of my playing life and played three courses in North Wales last week using the clubs for the first time. I have to say they are absolutely awesome. Look great behind the ball and the feedback through the hands is second to none. There’s still a negative perception toward Wilson due to their box-set years and they’re obviously not paying the multi million dollar player deals. Otherwise they’d be in a lot more bags

Wilson were THE irons many years ago with a history second to non. Wish more places had these irons in the U.K Also the product cycle time with Wilson is quite respectable unlike the 18-24 month of the "larger" manufactures. On a slightly different note there balls are up with other companies and better than some.

I’m 67 years of age and I can remember when golf clubs didn’t have all the different categories of clubs like they do now. There was usually one set of irons that was geared towards better players and another that was a game improvement design or a cavity back design for those with mid to high handicap’s that needed some help with off centre strikes. Good players like the pros were not known to use cavity back irons because when they played a shot they wanted to get the feedback they would get from their muscle back irons that were usually forged. Wilson Staff irons were very popular with the best players even at the club level because they were making some of the best forgings before the brands from Japan were discovered to be very good. As far as I know there was no Mizuno or Miura when I was a teenager back in the 70’s even though they could very well have been in business back then but the marketing wasn’t as ramped up as it is now so golfers in North America didn’t hear about these now well known brands. Wilson was one of the big brands and to a lesser extent MacGregor was quite well known too. I think that MacGregor became as well known as it was in that the Golden Bear aka Jack Nicklaus played MacGregor irons for quite awhile and he was in my opinion the best player in the game back in the 70’s and most people would probably know that the best advertising you can get is when the games best player is playing the brand of clubs that you make. It’s no coincidence that Nike benefited immensely from having Tiger Woods playing their irons even though it’s entirely possible that there were better irons that he could have played if you take the money paid to him out of the equation for playing Nike irons. If the average golfer would forego all the marketing hoopla and just go and be fitted by a professional club fitter they would be better off than believing most everything the manufacturers are trying to sell to them. The marketing is a giant quagmire that only professionals should be worried about whether they are playing the best clubs for them and the rest of us would be well served by buying from a reputable manufacturer at a price point that we can afford. Just ask any golf widow if that makes any sense…..lol.

@@richardwestmoreland4796 You are perfectly correct Ricard. I'm a little older than you and blades were the clubs the vast majority of people played. Then we had the emergence of the marketing and sales departments taking precedence. We were and are being sold on average golfers can't play blades they need help so buy deep cavity back irons, got a couple of shots off your handicap then upgrade to a less deep cavity back so it goes on. Marvellous anyone every played the game before. Most "younger" players I talk with have never hit blades because of this fact. Tell people long and often enough then it becomes "reality"

Alex, here are my last sets of irons, started playing golf more than 4 times a year in 2016 when I bought Ping i500 switched to the Staff D7 Forged (loved them) then switched to the Mizuno JPX 923 Tours for more consistency. I am now playing the WS CBs. They feel better than the Mizunos and have much more consistency and better forgiveness. These are the best irons I have ever played. Something you said puzzled me "they are stronger lofted". The 7 iron is 34 degrees and PW is 46. I don't know any modern irons that are weaker lofted than these. These are modern-traditional lofts.

Wilson is and always has been CLASS in irons. While my FG17s aren’t my first-string set (MP37s) I do love how they play and feel. Love Wilson as a brand and the legacy. Maybe they took a PR hit because of the PRO-staff line (store line) which are junk (pro-staff is their tip top in tennis though) and perhaps with the middle line deep red series… not sure. Also, the Haig-Ultras were made by Wilson. I have a set of those on my wall, leather grips and all, those babies are the Cadillac of irons (think- the top level package in whatever car you like) in the day, before the branding changed to junior’s clubs.

I find the 923's can come off hot and like a flyer sometimes and I'll hit it 10-20 yards further than I expect, this is hurting my game more than the strong lofts and extra distance they give. Another brand that is an excellent manufacturer of golf clubs that you don’t have to take out a second mortgage on your house for is Tour Edge. Compared to Titleist and Taylormade I suspect that Tour Edge must be considered to be in at least the second tier for what they spend on marketing their clubs. Tour Edge might not have the same big budget for marketing as some others but they certainly aren’t in my opinion making and selling clubs that are inferior in any way.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking! If I’m gonna spend $1000 on the set of irons may as well just spend 200 more and get Mizuno. I’ll probably just end up giving Takomo a shot on my next set though.

I for one detest the fact that none of these companies sell a full set if irons any longer. At minimum 3-pw should be offered as they always did in the past. Those that omit the 3, 4, even the 5 are kidding themselves and cannot be taken seriously as a golf supplier .......
@cameronloveless1751
@cameronloveless1751 2 ай бұрын
Long irons are available if you want them. Right down to 2 iron! The fact they don’t force you to buy them is a good thing, as many players will opt for hybrids beyond 5 iron, or utility/driving irons or even 7 woods, so having a 3 and 4 iron that sit in the garage is pointless and more expensive than it needs to be.

I will give one main reason why they aren’t higher in the golfing world. Their customer service is horrible. The people answering the phone barely know their products and almost always have to email you back an answer. It doesn’t give you confidence you are talking to experts or if Wilson even knows how to custom build a club properly. That is very important in an industry which is so particular about features and customization. It seems the only way you can get a good answer from them is third party through a retailer and Wilson rep and even then it’s not great.

Its all advertising and endorsements led. Wilson are a general sporting goods brand with a wide range of products. In the golf market they’re competing against golf only companies such as TM, Callaway, Ping and Titleist who can concentrate their marketing effort. Mizuno are also a multi- product brand who suffer when up against the golf only companies. Incidentally Wilson probably don’t make their clubs any cheaper they just sell them for less than the golf companies with larger marketing budgets. We have to pay for the millions they pour into pro player endorsements.

Wilson is trying to overcome their years as a cheap, Kmart set supplier. Tough to regain that once great brand identity.

Buy Buy Buy Buy!!!!! That's what these folks want you to believe. Get whatever irons you have professionally fitted and adjusted, put on the correct shafts for your swing speed, and new grips, then take a couple of lessons, and for less money than a set of new irons you will dramatically improve your scores more than any possible set of clubs could do.

For people to take these as an option, they have to be more than $100 less than the mainstream options. It’s not that they aren’t good. It’s just people want to play with the pros are playing and what everybody in their forced and it is going to be playing and they’re not gonna give that up for 100 bucks.
