@@rS8NkZRu on T8, T9, Verstappen only lifts very shortly while going over the left curbs with the front tire to give some extra traction to the front and not understeer. Than gets back on throttle to keep traction in the back, as the curb can upset the car and make you spinout. It's a normal concept related to lift off oversteer, but he uses in a controlled manner just to have rotation.

I drove in SCCA for years. The difference is that some drivers can “steer their way out of trouble” and keep their foot planted on the gas when the rear end gets loose on corner exit. You need to have started driving at a young age to do this well, and also be genetically gifted with lightning reflexes. Max has both. Every driver in F1 is in the top 0.1% of race car drivers, but they do differ (slightly) in their raw ability to do this.

Charles made to mutch mistakes and Ferrari has dialed it back. Sainz is a GP winner and still no big team wants him. It's all about regulations and that makes the car. I think a lot of it is in Perez' head. If he has a bad outing, he seems to feed on that and sink. You'll then see Horner give him some encouragement or "he's our guy" and that somehow resets Perez until the next time he screws up. He's frustrating to watch because he has the car and he has shown his ability, but just gets lost for weeks at a time.

Just something I noticed. Even tho Verstappen was getting on the power early, he was not clocking the top speeds Perez was topping. And Perex understeering through some of the corner tells me that he trimmed a bit of wing and went for straightline speed. So ofcourse early braking and late throttle will be a consequence of that. However losing that much time per corner is horrendous. Having an understeery car will always mean he can never set times like Max.

This year's Red Bull is no longer having an advantage so Max is working hard to make up the deficit. You can see he is not scoring pole easily anymore. Also, he is not running away on race day instead, he is trying to make zero errors in all critical situation and even try to draft other race car to make pole position. Checo also got his setup wrong, he ran less wings and was faster on the straights but in such damp conditions it was severely impacting his confidence when it came to attacking the corners. One should expect such an experienced driver to make better setup choices.

You can tell the answer from the exit of the first complex -- Perez has no confidence in the rear end of his car. He's way more timid in his throttle application versus Max who is on it earlier and more aggressively everywhere.

Is Max necessarily faster than a George or Charles in qualy? Perhaps not, but unlike any other driver he made 0 material mistakes (those where your competition can overtake you within the same lap you made a mistake). Max is doing a little bit of a Senna here btw, who also gave throttle input through a corner. Keep the turbo spinning to enable for immediate torque instead of waiting for the lag. Even naturally aspirated engines that Senna drove as well benefit from keeping the RPM to a level that creates maximum torque immediately.

Max lets the car go more and of course he accelerates faster than Checo. Checo has more confidence in the rear axle, he looks for the car to have a good rear grip to accelerate as aggressively but that affects his corner entry and being in the middle of it since he has to decelerate due to the climb. Its about driving styles. The car is pointy so Verstappen can oversteer into corners, its an impossible to learn skill if you have not been driving like that since young.
