I like Leona because his backstory is relatable to me because I grew up with a brother that's several years older than me. It doesn't hurt that he is good looking though, but that's honestly eye candy. 😜

I openly love Malleus and begrudgingly love Leona lol. At first it was cuz he was got, then we learn that he’s a giant softy trying to navigate his trauma and it just becomes so hard not to love him. I just wish they handled his character better.

Am I the only one that thinks that Vil and Jack's bond was a wasted opportunity? They are childhood friends, and the game kinda implies that they have a friendly relationship even in the present with Jack and Vil working out together. But, it rarely ever pops up in the main story. I feel like it would a lot of depth to both characters. It would show that Vil isn't a vain pretty boy, and is genuinely more concerned about the effort people put into their pursuits than wanting everyone around him to look like supermodels like himself. It proves that there's more to Jack then being a tsundere jock. He can look past appearances and can put in the effort for his appearance when the time calls for it. Two, it would make the conflict in parts of the game stronger and make more sense. If they are rekindling a friendship to the point of jogging together, then why wasn't Jack more concerned about Vil during his chapter? Wouldn't he be worried about his childhood friend overblotting and acting out of line? Him having no involvement at all, even begrudgingly, seems ooc, since he seemed loyal to those he truly cares about. Hell, I wonder why Silver, Cater and Lilia weren't concerned about Kalim when he was acting strange in Scarabia, too.

ABSOLUTELY! TWST creates promising character dynamics but rarely develops them, it's so frustrating! (Also, this is why Fandom culture is important. If Disney doesn't want write more about the characters, the fans will!)

this is something interesting ive seen a few fans comment online already! how the main story of twst is sorta... disconnected from events and vignettes. we see Jack interact with vil a few times in the side stories, and they actually have a really cute chemistry! same goes for quite a lot of other character pairings, like the ones who are in the same clubs! but when it comes to the main story, those relationships barely get adressed because the timeline of events and the timeline of the main story almost don't fully line up? lmao it's an odd narrative choice tbh but oh well

In Fairy Gala Jack's vignette they say that when they were kids Jack built a throne out of snow just for Vil WHY ARE CERTAIN CHARACTER DYNAMICS HIDDEN FROM PLAYERS. As a EN player only I don't really know the plot of the most recent event Vil SSR but that was such a wasted opportunity to not give Jack an SR... the theme clashing a lot with his character would have been a great opportunity to develop his dynamic with Vil further to see what exactly they have in common and how they normally interact.

The original idea of how the books were supposed to come out actually makes so much more sense. The way that book 2 felt so out of place and so rushed didn’t make me feel much of what the other books did. This one decision alone made a huge bump that the writers tripped over to further continue the Savanaclaw boys as characters. The only one out of them that was able to have “fair” treatment was Jack. The only reason this even happened was because the writers were able to move him around even more with the story because of how minor he is compared to a Literal second born prince and a Hyena with an already established cooperative role with said Prince.

The only silver lining to book 2 being a mess is the fact that we did get info that made it a bit better in hindsight, plus without spoiling anything the Savanaclaw portion of Book 7 actually did these three and their struggles justice. I adore Jack, Ruggie and especially Leona but pretty much every reason why happened after their own book which is just sad, but thankfully this is the low point and it's only up hill from here. On that note, great Video Lily, glad to see you're back, and I can't wait for when you cover book 4, not only cause it's my fave, but also because of how much EN massacred Jamil's motive-

Honestly I've always found Leona so compelling a character, he is so intelligent despite what other people view him as, he doesn't try at actually getting good grades but I think he suffers from an extreme case of depression and enui but boredom doesn't equal stupidity, in chapter 6 he was the first to figure out Vil overblotted when no one else knew outside of the people that got roped into it, he has moments of subtle intelligence he seems to pick up on things so much quicker than other characters yet they don't utilize his talents. The game pictures him as a lazy a-hole it really sucks that the later chapters do him more justice than the one chapter they were actually featured in though that's only somewhat if they even have him in the picture at all, most people don't even think he even has a character outside of people simping for him and his rivalry with Malleus. I also like his mentality as well as someone who's in his position but in reverse where I'm the older one but my mom favors my younger sibling it'd be interesting for him to have a realization that if he was born first it probably wouldn't be as amazing as he thinks it would be, and it'd probably just mean more responsibility which I don't think he could handle. There's so many interesting avenues they could take Leona but it's pretty sad how the game doesn't use him more out side of a few moments in later chapters and certain vignettes/events/side-stories, it's like he's only there because he has to be not because they want him there which really sucks because he could be so interesting. The rest of Savanaclaw is brains over brawn yet Leona is actually pretty intelligent and Ruggie is as well not only being the smallest boy in the dorm and at a disadvantage as the weakest due to him being regularly starved heck the poor boy eats dandelions off the ground for petes-sake, yet despite this the rest of the dorm is just filled with barely intelligent lunk-head meat-heads that only think of strength first, it would have been more interesting if there was a bit more of a mix. I just feel like there's so many things that Savanaclaw could do but was side-lined and shafted because it's mostly just window dressing like it's supposed to be there because it needs to fill a slot. It also doesn't help that chapter 2 is literally just a basic retelling of 'The Lion King' and not an especially compelling or interesting retelling either the others have more interesting twists and turns it's just a shame it felt like no one wanted to work on this chapter and it felt like it took the team to muster up any energy to get it done and even then most of the characters now are mostly used as one dimensional characters with one trait "Ruggie-poor and broke" "Leona-lazy and standoffish with a rivalry with Malleus (if that cant even be considered a personality trait)" and "Jack-jock with good heart but a tsundere" it's just a shame when they could do anything with them yet it seemed there imagination was lacking on this, honestly fanfic writers and fans do more of a good job actually giving these characters well actual character than the people who even own the game sadly. I hope that one day Leona especially will be more fleshed out, I feel like Jack being a member of the first years will get more character and Ruggie is already a huge favorite but I worry that with time Leona will be sidelined as "that one joke character that fights with Malleus all the time" he deserves better than that I'd like them to show off more of his intelligence and actually delve deeper into that but who knows we can only hope.

I think my problem with that Leona tried to KILL not one but two characters, Malleus and Ruggie. And it's never acknowledged that a powerful PRINCE just tried to murder another to win a game. Leona is a very privileged character, he won't be king but he has a loving nephew and he will never go hunger or know want, so his issues seem more like winning. It doesn't help that in most of his interactions with others he comes off as a whinny, spoiled @-hole.

Lmao yeah I think all of the OB boys tried to 💀 someone before the transformation/while they were transformed but given the narrative implies Leona's plan for Malleus was made while he was still mostly sane doesn't paint the prettiest picture of his character based on the main story alone 😬😬 which is very unfortunate

Your video made me realize why I like Book 2 more than all the others, and why Leona is my favorite character. I had recently graduated college and throughout all my years except my last, I played on my college's football team. I was a walk-on, meaning I chose to play the sport Unlike others who had scholarships, so they were played to go to college to play football. I gave that team everything I have, sacrificed graduating early just play on the starting line-up. Every time the coaches went with the scholarship players, even when I was kicking their butts during practice. Even when the coaching staff was changed, and I got a spot on the Feild Goal team, that was stripped from in favor of scholarship players and them being forced to do it. After giving up my degree, time, and energy into that sport I felt wasted. I had done everything to get ahead, waking up the earliest, walking to practice while others drove, getting in extra workouts. ALL OF IT DID LITTLE TO NOHTING FOR MY CAREER. The few coaches who saw me either left or weren't in a higher position. I just gave up basically and decided to leave and not deal with it. And when I Left...I felt like what if I was never over-looked? His situation was so similar to mine I felt a genuine connection to him. Despite all the flaws and mess of the writing, this story spoke to me. And it will always be my favorite story in this game for Leona alone. I hope I didn't harp on to much. I love your videos and can't wait to see more^^

2:22:03 oh...woah that would have made such a difference! Especially if it would have been the day of the tournament where we/Yuu were aware of the plot against Malleus and that got so many people harmed, if we heard people from the Savanah talking about how scary and dangerous he is whike running around the tournament area, i can totally imagine Grim commenting that it seems like hes done bad stuff even back home. Then we get his post overblot flashbacks and realise that there was never any justification for those people saying those things and we had seen the bias against him in action and agreed with it without a second thought. Bonus points if it turns out that those people either work for the retinue that Falena would have brought with him or they were civilians but were here to catch a glimpse of Falena and Cheka instead of caring about the tournament the second prince was partaking in which was the main reason for those two being here

it was defiitely a missed opportunity to not have npcs from the sunset savanna attend the games :( it would do a lot of work to make the players sympathise with leona's struggles and isolation back in his kingdom

(Book 7 spoilers down my rant! Just in case somebody is waiting fornit on EN) I am not sure who said this but the events are just what if's, like What if some twst students went to a different school for a social gathering and what not and sometimes we see so much character dynamics but hearing that these are like non-canon is a bit upsetting but make sense since the happen in times where its near impossible for some characters to be close or know MC (like MC never truly meets Idia till like Book 6) even then don't go much further with character relationships especially with MC. Then the vignettes and characters voice lines offer so much lore. As a really hyperfixated person in Savanaclaw, i have a whole journal about these lore snippets. Like how Ruggie was tutored by Leona (Ruggie Birthday Vignette) or how Leona has actually did try and talk with his brother about somehow get Sunset Savannah more tourists to visit but he doesn't listen and Leona can't do anything about it (Voice line in Leona's Club Wear card). So much is locked behind these cards and sunce people are not big fans of them not only will they not know but will mischaracterise them ao badly, I was trying so hard not to geek out as I saw someone say Leona was an irredeemable jerk! Another thing is that some actions of the three can be easily misinterpreted. Like how Leona js just simplified as a lazy jerk, sure he is but I feel like his laziness is like him almost bed-rotting/depression. He doesn't have anymore energy to move on with life since he's confident he has no purpose. Ruggie is so used to doing so many jobs, he will be a huge jerk too just to get money cause that's all he could ever grow up on. Earn, earn, earn is all that seems to run in Ruggie and its sad and I wish I could give him the biggest hug. Then there is Jack, who people sum up as a cute tsundere wolf. Kinda but he is a loyal friend who cares. Sure he's a bit hard headed but that's cause not only does he want the best for himself but thise around him. If i remember correctly feim Book 7, Jack has always felt guilty for betraying his idol! Heck he wants to see the best in people thats why Leona was so different in bis dream cause he also felt betrayed that his idol was not as what Jack thought. They all have problems and sometimes it gets ignored or interpreted so wrong! I wish I could rant to people who don't understand these three boys!

I'm only a little over part way through the video, but I have to say that it is soooo funny how much Book 2 (and Savanaclaw) never gets a win. Book 2? The most disliked book (strike 1). Savanaclaw? The least liked dorm (strike 2). Savanaclaw manga? Currently unfinished... and the BOOK 3 MANGA manages to get to its overblot before it (strike 3!!). So far the only Book 2-adjacent piece of media I know of that's gone pretty well is the light novel and I've heard it expands on things much better. ... Shame the upcoming anime will focus on the manga instead, so even more people won't know about it (oh--what's that?? Strike 4!!!) Leona Kingscholar, life truly never goes your way EDIT: I'm SO glad to hear what you have to say about the idea of Ruggie being the one to overblot! I admit I don't focus on Ruggie much (i still love him tho ily ruggie) but during my readthrough of the Savanaclaw manga I also started to see the signs the fandom talks about when saying it was clear he was closer to OBing than Leona. And while I agree he was going through turmoil and using way too much magic, aside from the rules of OBing that they tell us in Book 2, if you look at Ruggie's character it just seems like... he wouldn't let himself overblot? Like OBVIOUSLY no one really /chooses/ to OB (lol), but Ruggie has just lived too hard a life to not know that there is always another way to keep going. Him OBing definitely would have been a break of a pattern (well, if Jamil hadn't done it later on) but it really wouldn't have really fit /him/. IMO, anyway. EDIT 2: The book 2 light novel segments for Leona nearly got me tearing up, ohhh I won't be ready when that gets published in English. OW.

the light novel is SO GOOD im so excited for octavinelle's. as for ruggie's OB theory, it's very much related to how the game doesn't really acknoledge his background and struggles very seriously, which in turns leads the reader to not fully realize how mature and level headed he is for a 17 year old kid, since he had to grow up so fast :((

Something else about the logic of events that bothers me is that Leona really should have been all for having Malleus not allowed to take part in the tournament, shouldn't he? He was never actually planning to face him in a match, and the book confirms the importance of his dormmates dreams being crushed for why they were doing this at all, getting vengeance for their pride is only part of it and easily the less important part compared to actually getting to show their stuff at the tournament. So why did Leona undermine the chance to get Malleus off the pitch?! The worst part is that there IS a pretty straightforward solution but the game didn't consider it at all 😅 That if Malleus was disqualified for the interdorm tournament in this way then he would also be disqualified from the interschool one, and NRC doesn't want RSA to get that 100th win even if it means the match isn't as interesting or fun bc Malleus curbstomps everyone. If all the Housewardens were of that opinion from the start (except I guess Idia) then it would have made sense why it would trump the desire to have even a chance at the NRC specific tournament, it's this one year specifically that would sting so badly to lose to RSA again because it's 100 freaking consecutive losses, their pride taking centre stage in that instance would make sense! But no, instead they had so little time for the character we most needed to understand for this book that they decided to make that scene the one where he shows his manipulation skills and potential as a tactician and leader by shifting the opinions of nearly all the other housewardens so fast, even though it will go on to make literally no sense why and it's super frustrating!!

2:18:22 i feel like the game really missed the mark by not having Jack come to some sort of realisation during the overblot for this exact reason - he values hard work to the point of missing the point of why thats not all it takes to get anywhere in life, and thats what sets him apart from his dormates more than their moral stances throughout the events of this chapter. I really felt like his well-meaning but niave outbursts about just training until they could overcome Malleus were building to a moment of understanding why the rest of Savanaclaw felt like the only way to do more than roll over and fail bc of things outside of their control was to cheat. Its just...it gets emphasised so much that life being fundamentally unfair is at the heart of Leona's thought process and breakdown, not to mention Ruggie's whole charcater, and then we have Jack saying that if they lost then they just didn't try hard enough yet not really getting how wrong he is by the end and its such a missed opportunity to do more with whats clearly the central heme of the book!! HAVE THE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT AND LEARN ABOUT AND CHANGE THEIR OPINIONS ON THE UNFAIRNESS OF LIFE!!! Its...its so built-into the narrative, what with Jack himself having had his dream of playing alongside his idol crushed by the reality that that idol isnt who Jack had headcanonned him to be, he's also getting a small taste of the despair driving his dormmates, just go that kne step further!! We could have gotten Ruggie fully addressing how an opportunity like this being taken from them could make or break future and in his case even be the difference between his entire community having a future or not, Leona could have expanded on why hes so resigned to hard work and ability never getting him anywhere, any of this would have been gold, especially comapred to the slapdash way that these characters are handled in the actual way the game played out 😅

Am I the only one that high key suspects that Leona has depression? Him lamenting about how worthless, unloved and stupid he is in the novelization makes it sound like he has it. If he was self confident or even had average self worth, that wouldn't be as deep seeded of a belief as that makes it out to be.

@@sorcerersapprentice as far as I know, that's a rather common character headcannon in the fandom! I didn't address it in the video cuz it's a rather delicate topic and I tend to lean more on a comedic tone during my recaps. Plus like I said it enters headcannon territory so every fan has their own interpretation of his character, which makes it harder to look for any "decisive evidence" 😔

I legit thought they were going that route in-game because him sleeping so much would suddenly be recontextualised as depression napping which in itself had gotten him more scorn for 'laziness'. Plus it would have gone a long way to cleaning up the rough edges of how this story was told - mental health problems wouldn't excuse his choices, but it would strengthen the context for why he's so upset to the point of overblotting where as it stands there's a not insignificant chunk of the random who only sees someone born into privilege whining about not having even more. That's not the point of his story but it's...not handled well enough to show that to everyone, and something like a depression diagnosis coming after would have helped with that I think.

I've always been a big Leona and Savanaclaw fan and I believe your video discusses a lot of key points about his character that are most often overlooked that hopefully makes people realize they actually don't know anything about him or the reason for why he does what he does in chapter 2. I absolutely LOVE Leona. Both influenced by the game and the fandom/my own headcannons. What I love most is how everything involving Leona is extremely subtle, so much so that unfortunately a lot of fans forget. Leona is WAY too smart to be in this school, I mean the man plays chess constantly and figures out dead languages for funsies. He just skips classes because he’s already learned all the NRC lesson plans from his royal tutors. So it technically would be a waste of time for Leona to go to class. Another thing I love about Leona is that while he has this lazy delinquent persona he has been shown to actually care about his dorm, Ruggie(yes I absolutely ship them lol), underclassmen, and even us as players. On more than one occasion either in a passing comment or even in a card vignette Leona has helped people with school assignments. The whole plot with Book 2 is not only his personal beef with Malleus but also so his dorm mates have a chance to get a better further education because he is socially aware that not everyone can afford to go to college(wether that be from his own observations or with the help of befriending Ruggie), he NEVER treats Ruggie like a charity case. He never just hands Ruggie what he wants, because he knows Ruggie wouldn’t accept a hand out. He lets Ruggie ‘steal’ valuable jewelry while he cleans, just hands over his wallet whenever Ruggie asks and pretends to not know Ruggie takes way more change than what it would’ve been. Plus he does appreciate Ruggie for his skills mainly in Book 2 and in the Fairy Gala. And unlike Scar, Leona does genuinely care for his family(I like to think so), he does think that his brother could do things differently to also help the Slums, he doesn’t show any desire to delete said brother in order to make those changes happen. I agree he does secretly love his nephew. My own personal head cannon as to why he is so tsundere towards his family is because of his Signature Spell. In my head when Leona was younger he accidentally hurt someone(his dad in my head) in his family with his magic, therefore in order to not do that again especially after Cheka was born, Leona isolated himself. And that’s partially why I think he sleeps most of the time, other than the tongue in cheek reference of lions canonically sleep up to 20 hrs a day and the fandom consensus that Leona is depressed. If he is asleep he can’t hurt anyone. Another fun reference to IRL lions is that dominant male lions(Leona) are usually depicted laying about babysitting the cubs(Leona’s duties as a housewarden), and only really do anything when protecting their title as leader from challengers or their pride as a whole. Which you could argue that Leona does, we only ever see or hear of him fighting is when challenged as housewarden or during main game conflict or during spelldrive.

I got into Twisted Wonderland because of Leona. I found him interesting and really liked him as a character. Book 2 may not be the most liked book because of the way that the book is a mess in the game, but external media is good in cases like this. I really like all the books that we have since the characters are really interesting. The lore on the characters is interesting when you look at the vignettes for the cards and you can also learn a lot from the home screen lines. If I were to pick my top five characters in general I from first to fifth I would say Idia, Leona, Jamil, Vil, and Silver.

Okay, okay I am still watching this, having started watching last night, and I will try and maybe comment again once I finish it, but I really wanted to say that I get excited when I see an upload pop up from you in my subscriptions and I genuinely smiled form ear to ear when this yesterday! It was a lovely New Years gift! I tend to keep this opinion of mine to myself since I have seen a lot of fans talk about how much they do not like Book 2, which I was unaware of for a while, but, despite the stories execution, I don’t personally hate it myself? (I think dislike Book 3 more, because, even if it was executed better, there were just things about it that frustrated me more, apparently, haha.) I think, in terms of Book 2, for me, it is because Leona is an interesting and complex character, and we still do gain insight about him during the chapter itself. (I agree when I saw a fan say once upon at time that the age difference between Leona and his brother should have been in the Book 2 Main Story itself rather than in his birthday card story, since that would have an additional nuance for him, and I completely agree! For the LONGEST time I did wonder, “Just how much older is Falena than Leona?” Since, when I first got into Twisted Wonderland, there was a lot of stories to go through, and I saved the Birthday stories for last, which there are still a lot I need to go through, and I see that information in Leona’s first birthday story. I was happy but also frustrated to have that information hidden there. I do agree with the headcanon that he has depression. I am glad that I am not alone there. (Cater and Idia would be the other two. And maybe even Trey as well.) Anyways, another family in this game you hear about A LOT but don’t see would be Trey’s. PLEASE give us a Trey hometown event, Yana!! Cater’s would be another…but I am in the boat of NOT wanting to see them, especially his sisters, because I just don’t have a good opinion of them AT ALL, which is unfortunate because Cater is one of those characters, alongside Trey, where having a hometown event would do wonders for them. Speaking of Trey (and some of this applies to Cater as well), being a Trey fan is really, really hard apparently. I have seen discontent geared towards Trey in the past, but it feels like Trey discontent is on the rise currently? And now, this is also extending to Cater. I think it has to do with the Heartslabyul arc of Book 7 releasing, but with Trey, his dream isn’t out yet, so I am afraid of what will happen when it does, seeing as what happened with Cater’s… I love these characters, so it is hard to see. No one is obviously obligated to like a character if they just don’t, but please look them objectively and understand them. With Trey, he is one of those characters where what makes him tick-as well as Cater-is not easily apparent and takes some serious digging. I love Trey (and Cater), they are my favorites, but there were things that I missed about Trey myself, with seeing what minimal discussion fans were having getting the gears turning more. I noted that Trey was like a third parent to his siblings, and I learned that “the parentified child” is a thing, and from researching that, a lot of the things I learned about it do apply to him, minus the “neglectful and/or abusive parents” thing since it is literally because his parents work and he talks quite well about them. I’ve also learned about latchkey kids, which is likely another thing that applies to Trey, and was an angle I was conferring as well, without knowing that there was a technical term for it. Anyways, I could go on and on about Trey, but I think I’ll just stop there since this is about Savanaclaw, LOL. As someone who grew up with SpongeBob, SpongeBob references I always find a major delight!! And I started cracking up with Mickey’s dramatic, “What happened?” Since I did not see that short, I think it was due to Barry Kramer that I learned about that gem! I am absolutely looking forward to finishing this video and sharing any additional thoughts I may have if I get the chance! Happy New Year, Lily! Keep up the great work!

honestly i'd love to see all the characters have their hometown events but i don't know if twst will commit 100% to it :( we already had deuce in the kingdom of roses but the entire rest of heartslabyul is also from there so im hoping they make at least another event to give trey and riddle some focus!! the book 1 characters aside from deuce and ace unfortunately get left in the dust more and more with the main story, and trey is definitely one that is not favored by the card events like Jack ://

You and I think the same! I would love for Twisted Wonderland to have Hometown events for all the characters, too!! (I guess even for the characters I do not like too much because of world building). But I do agree that they might not commit to that. If we’re lucky, we get two hometown events in a year, which is more preferable than only one, which 2024 only saw one in JP. But seeing as how we only have had five, if I recall correctly? That only covers six students (since Kalim was there for his hometown event, I counted him, too) out of 22 students who had one. 16 total students remain. Two hometown events a year (sometimes one) would take a while to work through. Though maybe not in retrospect, since there are students from the same hometown that could participate together, like Jamil and Kalim did. I hope whoever is next is someone who genuinely deserves and needs the attention. I do love Leona, Vil, and Deuce, and didn’t mind them getting a hometown event, but I wish they were honestly saved for later rather than sooner in favor of characters who needed it? Unfortunately, I think book 7 related things required Leona, maybe Deuce, and Vil to have theirs when they did upon their dreams and all, but still… I 100% agree that Trey, Cater, and Riddle are now majorly sidelined in the main story in favor of Ace and Deuce. I get to an extent, since they are a part of the freshman squad/are in Yuu’s friend group, but it sucks abandoning characters that are in the main cast/need the attention, too. Not to mention, like you said, the lack of compensation for these characters in terms of event cards. I really do have to feel bad for Trey and Jack, too, as well as Riddle, Cater, and Silver. Maybe another Queendom/Kingdom of Roses event with Trey and Riddle can still happen even though we’ve been there with Deuce already. They are from different towns/parts of the Queendom/Kingdom of Roses, so in a way we wouldn’t be seeing the same location twice. This might sound crazy, but if Trey and Riddle do get a hometown event, I hope it centers around the Disney Fairies/Peter Pan franchise. Trey, in his Platinum Jacket birthday story shared a tradition in the Queendom/Kingdom of Roses rooted in Disney Fairies/Peter Pan. I was happy to see that since those franchises have ties to the UK as well, but had no mention with the Queendom/Kingdom of Roses prior to that, as far as I can recall. (2024 in the Japanese server was rather rough in terms of new large scale events. Only four months out of the year saw large events with the most new card releases. The remaining eight months didn’t really have new events (when they did, they were small ones: the Anniversary and the new MAP Events), only reruns for the most part. A bulk of the cards that released were just birthday cards. I am hoping 2025 will be different. Please.)

It is SO upsetting cos Savanclaw is my fave dorm cos I love all three of the boys sm. Leona these days is probably my fave. I remember when I first started playing, though I liked him he didn't stand out to me and was probably because of his story. Even when the game was new, I was very surprised that we got to see his story SO SOON. I think since Leona is such an intelligent and important character, it made ZERO sense for the audience to meet him so soon in the main story. I also feel like Lion King is definitely one of the darker stories out of all the others, like pls bro killed his own brother 😭. Obviously they aren't going to do that in twst but I feel like going from the more light-hearted stories to the darker ones is a good order. I feel like knowing his character more through different stories, it only makes it MORE confusing on why he overblotted in the first place! Like the stakes did not feel very high for someone as clever and level-headed as Leona. Not to mention it was Lilia just provoking him which pushed him to the edge? Lilia at this point was still a rando to us and I really expected to see someone from his family, other than Cheka, to really push him to the edge. I wonder if it would have helped if there was another Lion King character, or even if it was Ruggie who did it. It would have been interesting to see Ruggie betray Leona at some point as in the og movie the hyenas literally ATE SCAR. Another thing, from an art and character design perspective, Leona def stands out a lot compared to some others like pls bro is gorgeous. All the third year dorm leaders have the most iconic (and attractive) designs. So from this, I also expected to find out about Leona much later in the story. Not the mention in terms of character "trope", he had a mysterious delinquent vibe and paired up with his heavy backstory I really thought we would meet him much later. To make matters worse, he's a grown ass man compared to the others so him overblotting second feels a bit crazy 😭. Thank god twst has improved Leona's character writing and actually shows him being perhaps the smartest character in the cast. I haven't started chapter 7 but from spoilers I know we're seeing a lot of character lore so I hope they expand on Leona's character properly this time.

I also need a face, but I don't think it'll stop at a punch...! 57:36 I think the game mentions that it's a combination of Cater's & Trey's Signature Spells. 1:17:45 The Main Story timeline based on my understanding: There's an inconsistency in Book 1. The dorm exposition happens on a Tuesday (courtesy of an extra), & they make the tart that very evening. The unbrithday party is the following morning, which doesn't make sense on a weekday. So I'm taking the liberty of extending Book 1 to roughly a week, after the start of the schl year. Then Book 2 has to be early October, 'cause late october is Halloween. Also schls LOVE putting special events right before exams, so the timing of Book 3 is believable for me. In that sense, Book 2 doesn't actually happen in the span of 3 days- it would also take around a week. Which would give the other students a enough time to heal. It's also possible that Diasomnia helped with the injuries as compensation. 1:19:38 I've never heard of that before, but it makes sense. When ranking Disney villains is discussed, Maleficient & Scar are always respectively 1st & 2nd. Reminants of this lineup can be seen in MalLeo rivalry, Leona being a junior, & being 2nd only to Malleus in everything. It seems like they realized that the Savannaclaw plot was simpler than they thought, & thus brought it down to Book 2. The investigation plotline must have been the original, but I can see why they couldn't do it. Being the jock dorm, it makes sense that the plot involves a sports event. But that would make Books 4-7 incredibly rushed in universe. Pomfiore in Feb, Ignihyde in March, Savannaclaw, & then Diasomnia. It would also put the inter-dorm Spelldrive tournament shortly before the international Spelldrive tournament, which wouldn't really happen. There's always a gap between the 2 to give the athletes a break. Whereas the time between Orientation & the term end would be just enough for a smaller book. I think that's also why Leona's plan is so flawed, the original plan must've been a whole mind game, but got riddled with plot holes when they watered it down (1:27:08). 1:25:55 I think it's that Leona built up a lot of negativity, so that when he used King's Roar in the climax, it instantly created a lot of blot.

Thank you for this video of my favorite dorm! I am a Savanaclaw stan and apologist, and I will admit that the book itself is clunky but my boys are one of the best written dorms lore wise. There is so much depth and complexity to Leona’s character where he’s not necessarily bad but hides his good heart because of his own insecurities which is why I support this king and he’s my bestie. Jack is the tsundere little brother who wants everyone to do their best and Ruggie is one of my husbands for how down to earth and determined he is to earn his keep. I love them so much. 🧡💛

I think one way the 'too little screentime' problem might have been solved (although this is also just my Leona Stan Brain wanting all the screentime possible for him) and still fit in a reference would be to have Leona "join" MC on the detective case, in reference to how Scar came to tell Mufasa about the stampede. He could claim that a lot of his players have gotten injured (or not, if we don't want to bother with that) but generally, since Savanaclaw is a dorm with a lot riding on the tournament, it would make sense that he would want to be involved. Through the course of the book, he could slowly lead us to the wrong conclusions, or plant evidence to frame Malleus to have him removed from the tournament for cheating (since he seems to want Malleus out of the tournament, but not in a way that gives Malleus acclaim-this could also be, if you squint, referring to Scar tricking the pride into thinking Mufasa's death is Simba's fault. I say this is an unlikely parallel because we already have Mufasa and Simba stand-ins, so it might be hard to spot.). But MC's friendship with Malleus, unbeknownst to Leona, could provide them with information that Malleus didn't actually do it, and they can separately present the information to the Headmage (after MC and Heartslabyul realize that Leona's tricked them with his charisma and gaslight gatekeep girlboss skills). Maybe Leona tries to stop them, maybe he thinks he has them deceived enough that they don't realize anything and doesn't try to stop them, MC gets to the headmage somehow (maybe using Split Card again), Crowley rolls up to wherever Savanaclaw's Spelldrive team is, reveals the whole thing and that they will be facing Malleus, Leona overblots as his perfect plan falls apart. Or Leona could have been introduced in a scene in gym class (that, y'know, the characters canonically have to take?) explaining Spelldrive and show us how his dorm admires him for his leadership skill, to contrast his personality in the scene in Book 1. Since I think it's a flight class, they could also go over blot in this class. Idk, I think Book 2's biggest problem for me was seeing a really dramatic hand of the author; things happen because the writers wanted to, not because they make sense in-world with what the writers have told us (Ruggie not overblotting despite having overexerted his magic and being betrayed by the one person he seems to have trusted, when we got a long exposition dump about how magical overexertion and emotional turmoil are the perfect storm for an overblot, and nobody casting suspicion on Savanaclaw even though it's implied their players aren't getting hit). I'm just word dumping, I'm surprised you even made it this far)

Another BIG thing that is over looked over why Savanaclaw was rushed was, that the life action lion king was being released really soon when book 2 was coming out, and there is promos of Jp twst and JP disney on twitter celebrating the movie's release at the same time. Which if you do not know the movie came out on July 19, 2019. So I feel a higher up told Yana to make a lion king chapter to promote the movie. It sucks but that could be another reason as to why Book 2 is not as good as it could have been. But still book 2 dose hint at why Lilia knows what they know and it going so well into the future of the game just proves, that Yana is the goat at foreshadowing. Which is why I think us knowing more about Jack, and who he might be is going to happen one day.

**EDIT:** I paused to make this comment literally right before you agreed with my theory on Jack, oof. Still only a quarter of the way in but had thoughts I didn't wanna forget: 1. Aww, I forgot about the friendship with the Ramshackle ghosts. I know late-game story has made it pretty impossible to hang out with them, but it's a little sad we don't get this anymore. Not sad about the loss of filler Twistunes, though. 2. While I still don't think Jack could be the Beast, I do wanna note that it's *technically* not impossible under the grounds of "the Beast isn't really a villain". We have good guy allusions, and they've even denoted by their cosmic spells being light in color while everyone else's are dark. Rook is the Huntsman and Kalim is the Sultan; both good guys with heavy associations with their movie's bad guy. And then we have Silver, who is a straight-up Disney Princess, the *heroine* of Diasomnia's origin movie. Now, one caveat is that all these good guys still have relationships with their villain and the overall movie, which is still a point against the Beast theory. TBH, while there are minor wolf characters across the Disney canon you could point to being Jack's inspiration, I think regardless the main reason for his existence is that he's supposed to represent popular archetypes in otome / joseimuke games that other characters didn't, such as the "wolf boy" and "tsundere jock". I'm guessing either they just couldn't figure out a Disney character they liked for Jack and decided to just go off-script for a character or the entire "every character is based on something" theme wasn't as hard a rule as we first thought and was just a happy accident that carried for a lot of the cast. Or maybe they just went *really* obscure for Jack with source material? Heck, a lot of major TWST stuff like Ramshackle Dorm is based on animations not as popular as the main movies, and Hades is an interesting pick for a villain over some others that got relegated to the school staff instead.

@@BKLily What I also find interesting about that hc is that I think Vil shares a lot more in common with Adam than Jack. They both have moments where they see themselves as a monster or a villain, but in reality they aren't irredeemable as people. In fact, they both have their kind side, especially towards those they hold dear. Adam gifts Belle the library and saves her from the wolves. Vil saves Ortho and Grim from the River Styx and genuinely wants to help those around him to become their best selves. Sadly, Vil is likely to continue internalizing the false, villainous perception of himself if the end of Book 5 and Book 6 are anything to go on. And Beast only learned to stop being such a jerkass when he realized that wasn’t going to help him break the curse upon him. But I’d like to imagine that with the right influence, Vil might also learn not to be so harsh and critical because 99.9999% of the time, he has good intentions.

The way you dissected Leona's plan and rambled about the flaws in them reminded me of (SPOILERS FOR ONE OF THE HALLOWEEN EVENTS) How I thought of a million ways Fellow Honest's (or Ernesto Foulworth's, If you want) plan was never going to work out long-term with the kinds of people he was planning to trap and sell off, even if the supposed "Coachman" tried covering it all up since: A. Multiple of the characters' family members are immensely influential or powerful. B. The characters are notable members of society in different work fields, communities, and historical achievements. and C. All of these characters attend a college that has records of their existence pre-kidnap arc that would be brought up to the police if Crowley filed for a search party to settle an international incident, and even If they could not locate them after all of it, would set the world into panic and make all other public areas tighten up security which would make the next batch of kidnapping victims harder to collect.

Wow, WHAT A AMAZING VIDEO! I can clearly see how much care you put into this, as someone who barely understood and HATED both chapter 2 and Leona this gave me such a great understanding of why exactly that book was quite ass compared to others and Leona as a character in general. I always noticed how Leona cares about those under him (especially Ruggie), but all that stupid Spelldrive plan... ugh. I never really looked into the post‐overblot monolog (after all, it was super short and I was already tired of all that), so I never really catch any of his character. This video is such a great insight of his and the other Savanaclaw students, it shined them with a light I never saw. In a world of fitting characters into certain tropes (even if they go completely against what that character is about) and reducing them to a flanderized version of themselves, amazing insight analysis are more than welcome. I finished video and man WOW. This is the most in depth analysis of Book 2-you’re giving Raven-writingdesk a run for her money with how insanely thorough you were. And I also did watch your other videos and all I have to say is that you keep slaying hyperfixating queen. I don’t have too much to say, because I think you’ve kinda summed up Book 2’s problems and missed potential very well. By far the worst Book, and I also just really dislike it; i have attempted to read through it again to do my own thorough analysis because i have no life, but there’s something about it that makes it feel like a chore; Book 5 is also flawed in this way, but I feel it avoids being as badly written as Book 2 because it lwans more into TWST’s strengths with character relationships and dynamics, and having a much more simple plot as a result. Or maybe it’s just bc Pome is my favorite dorm that I love Book 5 (at the end of the day it’s kinda a stretched out training arc). Whereas Book 2 has so much it wants to do but doesn’t have the time to devote to it (a bit ironic considering the comparison, bc I think Book 5 actually fumbles a bit bc it had so many chapters but that’s a different discussion for another day). And it also sort of wastes its time by drawing out the Whodunnit plot line, giving us even less time-time that can be spent with more Savanaclaw interactions and confrontations, Leona having a proper OB flashback, etc. Idk as a piece of media, even tho it’s definitely not nearly the worse thing I’ve ever consumed (tbh I think it’s a 5 or 5.5/10; and goddamn does the Emoji Movie make me wanna embrace nihilism), but it’s strangely draining to me. I think it’s because we KNOW that TWST can have better stories-not just for main stories, but specifically writing better stories for the characters it’s supposedly focusing on. Book 6 Leona for example and even his Book 7 dream all show the depth of his character in the Main Story than the Book meant to focus on him. But discounting both those things, since they were released after Book 2, considering what WAS in the game at its release…his Dorm Uniform does that better than Book 2. While that is what a Dorm Uniform vignette should do, I think it serves to highlight just how dirty he got done in what was meant to be his moment to shine in the story. I suppose what I’m saying is that Book 2 is disappointing because it fails at serving a certain function for its characters that other things like cards and events were able to do but with less time. The inclusion of the stampede really annoys me because at that point it only felt like it was there for the Disney reference quota and whatnot. At least we get to see the trio in Book 3; they are absolutely delightful; not that they need to try too hard to be that way lol. Anywho wowie that was a long complaint. It's so unfortunate though because the Lion King is SO ICONIC when it comes to Disney Movies and the characters of the dorm have SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!! 😔😔😔 I really think if they pushed this book further back a bit in the order it would've been so much better... I just had a thought about Jack being a wolf even though theres seemingly no specific character to tie to him - could it literally just be because that would mean the Savanaclaw students we get to know is 2 canines wirh a feline leader? Because they wanted all representation for the Beastmen focused in one dorm when it comes to playables and theres some humour in that set up so they just shrugged off the vagueness that left for Jacks character?

What pisses me off the most about book 2, is listening to Leona complain that he’ll never amount to anything because he’s the second son. Part of it is his family being shitty and treating him like he’s an outcast or a threat because of his power, I get that, but if he truly had an issue with not being king, he could have easily taken his brother and nephew out into the vast sand filled dessert that they live in, and dust them both, going back and act like they just disappeared, no one could prove he dusted them! But no! Instead of pursuing any of the multitude of other things that he’s good at, or even using his wealth and opportunities to pursue whatever he wants to, he just sulks about. I know that part of that is him acting like a lion, but he’s based on Scar, Scar wouldn’t just sit around feeling sorry for himself. It’s not even like their family functions like an actual lion pride where males can be kicked out to find their own pride, or killed for being a threat. We learn from the stories that Leona’s family cares for him and want him to work with his brother to rule the kingdom, he has important roles to play. So it makes no sense to me why he’s so moody and acts like he’ll never amount to anything.

I think the answer is extremely simple. Unlike Scar, Leona genuinely loves his family. Sure, he finds them annoying and a pain to deal with, but he doesn't wish them harm. Because of that, he just never considers it as an option. It's like saying that an easy solution for someone in poverty is shoplifting. Yes, it is in theory, but there are a multitude of reasons why someone wouldn't resort to that. I think it's the same with Leona here. As for the other shit, he has depression. As someone who has mild depression irl, it doesn't always make you think the most logically about solutions to problems in your life unless you seek out help.
