Regarding FNF’s influence, it’s absolutely wild how a mod for the game can skyrocket something’s notoriety, and not just with Sonic.exe. The Tricky mod gave Madness Combat a resurgence, for example. It’s baffling how wide-reaching the game’s influence can be.

Multiple grammar issues, clichés, and a story that doesn't make any sense and makes you laughing more than anything. It's only when the character is given to different people when it actually became decent. So it isn't just "hyper realistic blood" although it's one of the reasons. And considering the main creator of Sonic.exe is a horrible human being I don't really care.

Speaking as someone who groans in embarrassment at anything Sonic.exe related, I cannot stress enough how awesome the Friday Night Funkin' vs Sonic.exe mod is. It legitimately made Sonic.exe cool for me, helped in part especially thanks to the awesome songs and coming from someone jaded and skeptical about most "popular horror games", that says a lot.

In a way, he's so effective BECAUSE he's a petulant child that has his own reality-bent playground to mess around in and do anything he wants, but all he does is torture people. That's not really the case, the only reason why Sonic.exe seems "non-threatening" is for no other reason than the characters Boyfriend and Girlfriend being confirmed by the creators to be too stupid and oblivious to feel fear. Like how in the original FNF game BF would rap battle against a demon with a lemon head singing about how he is going to eat them and neither GF or BF ever show fear, because they are stupid and Girlfriend in a particular is powerful demon too. Like, I remember when early mods came out and would try to have Girlfriend being scared but then one of the FNF creators commented that GF wouldn't be scared of anyone and that those mods were not accurate to the character. The Sonic.exe mod are just following that, these Sonic.exe characters are genuine threats fighting off overpowered idiots.

Sonic.exe. all-powerful demon. can feel anything and everything around him. unstoppable force that has killed thousands in ways too horrid to describe. then he can't lay a finger on two teenagers with horrendously bad intelligence and proceeds to get brutally insulted by one of them in a rap battle and he lowkey starts raging. kind of hard to take him seriously when that's the situation. again, it probably depends more on the scenario. in his own game, yeah pretty terrifying. FNF? not so much.

.exe in his base form is in a shoddy artstyle, and Lord X originally had a song that from copied a ton of other songs made around FNF, just like the cliché-ridden original Sonic.exe (although he did get a better song that sadly ditched all the leitmotifs). Even a shitty meme is harder than .exe, it takes him turning into a deity and summoning some guys he killed to get very hard. The only .exe that isn't downplayed in any way is the one _we don't talk about anymore._

Dude, it's amazing how fast people started loving Majin Sonic. Not surpriing, but amazing. I'm not sruprised becasue the portrayal they gave Majin Sonic is amazing - not only did they showcase the idea of Majin Sonic being something really creepy, as some kind of demon that may want to toy with you just for his own fun, but also as the original idea behind it, a simple joke about this developer guy just wanting to make a joke, which fits a lot better with the japanese music. I also love how this mod introduced me to stuff I didn't even know about. In the beginning, I didn't even know this Lord X guy was the same from the PC port, and I didn't even know about stuff like EXE (the Faker guy that turns into Black Sun Sonic) or Fleetway Super Sonic. It's really cool.

Out of all creepypastas, I’m surprised sonic exe came back into the mainstream, and by extension, others. I consider it an example of turning a horrid story into something excellent though, sonic exe nightmare beginning, spirits of hell, the pc port, all have actual effort put into them. The original game did too, but the story SUCKED. I like this trend of taking bad concepts and turning them into great well thought out ones, the transformation of sonic exe from cheesy and cliche into a well thought out and sometimes formidable entity is great, and I hope this starts the trend of rewriting old creepypastas that were laughable into something excellent. Creepypastas have always been a guilty pleasure of mine, but now it doesn’t have to be so guilty anymore.

What works so well about Sonic.exe is how it plays with Sonic's nature as a charatcer. He's a character that designed to be cool and have attitude, but will still help out other weaker than him. He's supposed to be your cool friend. So what happens when he's not? Taking this character that we all know, and then bastardizing their traits into some sort of monster feels like a betrayal of what we've come to know about the character. The best part is that Sonic's design is PERFECT for this! There are so many ways that you can take this normally friendly looking character and change the design to create something that feels like a monster. From the fact that he's a hedgehog, or playing with his long limbs or strange eye shape, there's so many ways that people have took this idea!

I've never been that much interested into sonic.exe, even though it haunted my nightmares when I was a kid due to my dumb .exe phase. Didn't even know his name was canonically X / Xenophanes. However, after I've seen the fanmade remaster of sonic.exe through FNF and then looked for PC Port by myself, I believe I'll be back and stuck in my .exe phase for another few months. Honestly if Sonic exe proves anything the sonic fandom really lives off the motto of "you had a neat idea and utterly ruined it so we're just going to take it and make it good ourselves". Its not surprising that the sonic fandom, of all fandoms, kinda just reclaimed and appropriated the utterly garbage sonic EXE story and took it as kinda their own thing to essencially redo it to something actually good with what potential they saw in it. They've been doing this exact same thing with actual sonic media with fangames and fanfiction and stuff. I got more into the Sonic.EXE stuff though watching the fan game: Spirits of Hell Round 2 (had to go back the original at one point) which was very interesting based on it’s ‘who survives will bring a different story’ type of deal with all the other main characters of the Sonic series (for round 2, it’s basically the main 4 classic characters that aren’t Sonic, plus Cream, and Sally) seeing Sonic is a bit... Bloodthirsty. Sometimes it was hard to believe it was a Sonic fan game with how interesting or depressing it can get! I may not be the biggest horror fan myself, but I do enjoy riffing as I go along on a video and... Being cautious with any jumpscares in a video... Ha guess I’m slightly a coward there. But yeah the EXE community can be a rather interesting. I do wonder if it has anywhere to go from here or if this is where it’s popularity meets its peak... Least I can enjoy my memes of Cream running into spikes and Tails continuously dying from Exe for the 29,998,559,671,349th time in a row now.

When someone make the creepypasta's potencial believable, they nail it perfectly and that's why the "Vs Sonic.exe" FNF mod is such an masterpiece for both FNF and the Sonic.exe fandom. Honestly, I'm somewhat happy that demon is back. When I was a kind (12 or so) I was just getting on the internet and shit and I ended up getting into creepypasta which, I'm ashamed to say, actually fucking scared me. My specific embarrassment is definitely being afraid Sonic.exe, which I actually ended up having a nightmare about (I was like at the bus stop or something and Sonic was coming down the street instead of the bus and he was after me or something? Idk it was dumb but it legit shook me) which led to me basically banning myself from reading anymore creepypastas. I actually asked my dad to block creepypasta websites on my computer because I was fascinated by them, but they were seriously scaring me. I'm honestly fucking embarrassed by it now, especially looking back at Sonic.exe in particular. Like seriously why was I scared of this?? Why did it give me nightmares?? I made the mistake of telling my younger brother this story and he rightfully makes fun of me for it now lol.

I think that the other appeal to Sonic.exe is how it embraces the weirder and disturbing side of Sonic unapologetically. Supereyepatchworlf made a video talking about how the internet loves to turn Sonic into a weird meme abomination, mostly due to him being the butt of the jokes from his inconsistent video game history and young impressionable audience. Sonic.exe is sort of an extension of that, where instead of ridiculing Sonic for his shortcomings, this just celebrates the weird and disturbing side that the internet love to express Sonic as. There’s no joke to it or reference to a game specifically, it’s just Sonic but grotesque and scary.

I think its more of making fun of the fanbase than anything. Sonic fans are notorious for questionable fanart. When people talk about Sonic's shortcomings, they'll usually talk about Sonic 06. 06 is that Sonic game that people loved to hate because it's objectively bad & easy to pick on. Negativity gains views & any other game that came out(exception of Rise of Lyric) people have to reach incredibly hard to make them look as bad as 06.

I had this idea for my own take on Sonic.EXE where it was a game that Eggman forced some game developers to make a game that would slander Sonic. Another idea I had was one where a fan game is haunted by Mecha Sonic/Metallix from SMBZ and you get the witness the likes of Needlemouse/Sarah, Lord X, and the OG Sonic.EXE being brutally murdered by Mecha Sonic/Metallix.

That's an awesome idea actually! I actually thought of an concept where Lord X created Sonic in order to get people's souls, but Sonic's personality (read: his soul) actually becomes more and more real. And thanks to Sonic's friends he is able to overcome Lord X and successfully suppress him.

What got me back into Sonic EXE was honestly a fan game known as Sonic.EXE Whispers of Soul. It takes the cast of Sonic and Sally.EXE and gives the two games more of a story. You can achieve different endings by saving certain members of 6 you play as and it’s kinda a guilty pleasure of mine
