They could implement a mode I'd like them to call "Battle Memories" which would work exactly as the name suggest. "Memories" of Long Battles and Bosses maybe even both once you beat the respective Long Battle and Boss. Have a difficulty setting, all skills unlocked but on easy your life and ex bar are at their lowest. On "Normal", a bit upgraded, on "Hard" a tan more and on "Legend" fully upgraded. It also means the difficulty of the fight so it's scalated and relative. Or have a "Custom" setting where you carry your stats from your saves. Offline and Online, where in Online you can earn score to rank on a leaderboard. -Long Battles: Only Long Battles until the boss. -Boss Battles: Only Boss Battles. -Long Boss Battles: The entire Long Battle and Boss Battle section. This is of course different from Climax Battles. My guess when it comes to they not doing it is probably because of balancing issues. That's why Climax Battles are often made with rules pre-set by default.

Another feature I want them to bring back is the leveling system from yakuza 4, where you have total freedom with what you want to unlock first. The judgment games had that too, to some degree, but a lot of skills were locked behind conditions. On one side I get, you don't want to just give out the really good skills and make the player work for it so they can appreciate it more and, of course, balancing reasons but often times I find myself annoyed by some of the stuff you gotta do

Tbh, Yakuza could take a page out of Devil May Cry and have all the skills available out of the gate for certain characters/styles as long as you have enough XP or whatever currency they want to use. Not to mention being able to do a try before you buy and preview the ability before buy it. Or even having the option of turning off any ability if you so desire for the extra challenge.

Sorry, I've made a mistake. It doesn't drain your heat, it drains your drunk meter, which significantly helps build up heat (otherwise it's very slow). Still very annoying though

This is why Dead Souls is in a tier of its own. But honestly I'd love for this to make a return and probably even let you play as other characters to fighter other story bosses or something like that

Agreed! I love how Yakuza 5 let you use Kiryu to fight the other protags' bosses in Climax Battles, but god it would've been cool if the other protags got to do the same.

I feel like I am nuts because I grew to absolutely love Dead Souls. it was a huge step back into the jank of the earlier titles but it also had some of the absolute most fun moments in the series but they didn't lose sight of what the series was and who the characters were, one of the bits that sticks into my mind so clearly still is Majima's intro because it shows pretty much dead on how he would react to that situation and they played with it by having him be watching a zombie movie at the start of it

I hope you can customise the climax boss fight by yourself.For exmaple: you choose who you fight with or not with dramatic intro or QTE, choose having long battle or straight to the boss fight, choose fight on EX-hard or just normal, choose to fight with low health or have weapon, choose the boss with more health or more aggressive AI, choose where to fight with the boss. It will be super cool

This is a feature I always say I want. Climax battles are cool but sometimes I just wanna replay a segment. I learned to make a few saves in Lost Judgments finale just for this

I gotta say, if there's one thing RGG Studios does well it's their consistency. Specifically their consistency of being inconsistent. They introduce characters in one game and then they are never heard from again. Then they introduce features which they just kind of drop after one game. Then they bring it back completely changed. Then they do it half how it was first, a third how it was the second time but change some other stuff. I have never scratched my head in confusion as often as I did with the Yakuza series.

I've never played Dead Souls, only the main Yakuza games and Isshin (not even Judgement) and the first thing I thought when I completed my first game (y0) was if existed a way to replay the main bosses or long fights, something like Metal Gear Solid 3 with the duels. After playing all the main games I was disappointed, I really dislike the climax battles, I don't like playing battles with restrictions, time limits or without the abilities you unlocked. I'm glad that someone in RGG thought of this at some point althought I doubt this feature will return. I'm still hoping for that Kuze in the sewers experience or fighting Mine again with dynamic intro, QTE and all.

Great video Leon! There is a lot of untapped potential in these modes! My dream would be to have a "battle creator" of sorts, where you can customize enemies, stages, music etc. ...maybe one day

I've never played Dead Souls myself (I would like to one day though!), but I was aware of this mode thanks to No Damage runners using it to record their stuff. I definitely do wish it was brought back in some capacity, it'd be a convenient way to relive some great moments as you said, and perfect to record content, whether it's just showcases or no damage runs!

It sounds crazy that's how the Climax Battles were implemented. I know they existed but I figured it would just be the regular fights in one option and modified fights in another category. The fact that the standard fights don't exist beyond the main story feels off. I know a lot of games back then didn't have a feature like this, but those games were also way more manageable in terms of length. With games being as long as they are now, having a dedicated mode where you can experience certain moments without having to go through the entire game again would be a godsend. Not just in the Yakuza games, but a lot of other games as well.

In the game called "Need For Speed The Run", after you finished the main story, you could replay any of the stages (or just chapters) of the main game, while carrying all of your stats. I really want somethint like that in a Yakuza game.

I think Kiryu's climax battles in Yakuza 4 should have been - Saejima (Morning Glory battle from Kiryu's perspective) - Akiyama and Tanimura - Daigo Because they are the titular Successors of the Legend

It's bizarre, they have the arcadey action game staples but they're all spread out. Replay and rankings? Dead souls Difficulty designed for new game plus? Lost paradise Enemy gauntlet with limited healing? Yakuza 3 It's honestly the series biggest flaw, not consistently giving us the modes that give action games a ton of replayability.

I hope I'll remember this mode existing the next time I get a craving for Majima challenging a huge mutant zombie after claiming that zombie's butt. 😆 But yeah, this mode would be a cool thing in other games as well, it'd be easier to experience just those parts you'd feel like whenever you feel like it and I wouldn't need to record full-on playthroughs that often I suppose.

@@pegasuskiller9905It’s a mode where you’re thrown into Kamurocho at level 0, and you have to face every story boss and even Hamazaki. The only way to upgrade is to defeat everyone, and then face Mine at Theater Square.

Leon back on his goofy ahhh zombie spinoff supremacy again In all seriousness it honestly shocks me that Dead Souls of all games has this "replay the story fights" kind of mode and is the ONLY game to have it. I've honestly wanted to play Dead Souls out of pure genuine curiosity, but I've never had a Playstation console in my life and I have no clue how emulation works. The more I learn about this game, the more it's this mystery that I'll likely never get my hands on since it seems to be the one game published in the west that RGG has no intentions of EVER rereleasing in any way shape or form

Dead Souls is the GOAT I dunno why people sleep on it so much. Yes the control scheme is janky (just use type B fr) and the frame rate sucks in places but it's legit one of the best Ykz games.
