trunks is the most intelligent sayiajin that i have ever known. he is the only survivor in the future universe, he trained on his own in the time room because vegeta left him, he killed frieza and cold before they transform and destroy the earth, he killed dabura and babidi before they bring back buu to life, he turned ssj2 on his own, he was able to hit ssjb vegeta, he survived at the battle against black and zamasu more than vegeta. trunks is just intelligent like his mother, motivated like his father, that is how i explain his current strenght, but i feel like he has the god ki, because he survived a shot from ssjr black... and don't forget when beerus slapped bulma, vegeta surpassed goku by ssj2 and was able to hit beerus more than one time, wheiter goku in ssj3 couldn't even endure 3 minutes.

A couple of things: Trunks survived the future thanks in great part to Gohan, he didn't hit ssjb Vegeta, he survived the fight against Black and Zamasu because Goku was mostly taking care of Black. But I do believe that his performance during this last fight was thanks to one of those rage moments like Vegeta has from time to time. Also I have to admit that I'm not that big of a Trunks fan anymore, he let his mother die and left his girl for dead. No true son of Vegeta would let that happen.

i agree when you said that it was thank to gohan he survived yeah, but he was able to hit ssjb vegeta in "base form" don't forget that, and in the fight against black and zamasu, it's trunks who "helped" goku because at the begining of the fight goku was fighting alone both of black and zamasu, and he did a better job than vegeta only with ssj2, remember when zamasu catched both of goku and trunks so that black can hit them with his shot, it's normal that ssjb goku surviv this attack but you see that ssj2 trunks survived too instead of dying, but this strenght i can explain it by the same rage vegeta has got. i agree that he stupidly let his mother die, he just watched her dying without reacting, but when mai died he reacted to that, but do you think that if he saved his mother he would be as motivated as he was against zamasu and black?

He didn't save his mother because that would be like shitting on her grave... She sacrificed herself so he could go back in time to get help to beat an enemy that it had been proven beyond doubt that Trunks could not beat. For him to then throw his life away after that would be stupid, something even Vegeta isn't stupid enough to do because of his pride. Trunks DIDN'T "hit" SsB Vegeta, he sucker punched him, that's not the same as hitting him in an actual fight. I can agree that I think he has some potential to tap in to God ki, I think that's what his Rage form was, he was forcefully tapping into the God ki he obtained, probably from training with the Kais, instead of tapping into it properly like Goku and Vegeta can do, but him having God ki has no bearing on him surviving the attacks. Those attacks are just piercing the abdomen, people in DB have long been surviving attacks like that before God ki was even a thing.

+YandereHunter Zenkai boosts get weaker the more powerful the saiyans get so it's pretty much useless at the power level they're at since it was only useful in the Namek saga when vegeta was using it against Frieza, and that was when his power was in the thousands. He’s half saiyan which helps, but he’s trained and fought since coming back after the cell saga. He had alrdy unlocked ultra super saiyan (or whatever you want to call it) during the cell saga and seen ss2, so he knew ss2 was in reach. I really think that Future Trunks is the one to surpass Goku and Vegeta, he's practically both of them combined. If we go back to what Whis said to Goku and Vegeta about not being serious enough and not being relaxed enough, Trunks is practically what Whis has been talking about. As far as ki control goes, its shown when he spars with Vegeta, that he is able to control his ki to a point where he can change the size of his body to dodge attacks and deal heavy damage when needed. He's seen more death in his life than any other character in the db universe aswell, which we all know plays a very important role when becoming a Super Saiyan.

Another factor for Trunks' strength: Zenkai boosts. Now those might be a little outdated, but Trunks himself stated that he had been fighting Black for an entire year. And honestly speaking, to me it sounds like he fought him almost every single day, and I'm pretty damn sure Trunks got his ass kicked every single time, before being quickly saved by Mai or the others humans helping him. Second thing: Malnourishment. In Trunks' future, because of Black the human resistance have troubles getting their hands on vital ressources like food, water, weapons and the like, you know with black killing and destroying everything. Have you seen how much saiyans usually eat? Goku, vegeta, goten, present trunks, gohan. They eat a LOT to compensate for the massive amount of energy they use and so that their muscles can gorge themselves on proteins and various other stuff. I'm pretty damn sure Trunks was almost always fighting in a weakened state because of lack of proper food and water. He's also the kind of guy that would give his own food to someone else and go on the battlefield with an empty stomach. Now whether this can also count as a sort of zenkai boost or not (I mean it can kinda be a constant near death state at this point) I'm not sure. But when he got to the present, he definitely was able to eat and drink properly to nourish his muscles and rest. I'm not even including the fact that the food or water he ingest might not be completely edible, that he's breathing dust a lot on the battlefield or that his wounds can also not be properly healed. So basically the boy had to constantly surpass his limits, to survive an entire year with minimum rest on terrible living conditions. Third: The fact that Black killed so many people, including Future Bulma and how Trunks believed even Mai got killed off, more than likely shook up his emotions to a new high. Rage is a great source of saiyan power as seen with Vegeta, plus the fact that trunks' human side lets him feel even better and you've got one heck of a boost. Now let's add the "sparrings" sessions with goku and possibly vegeta having more than one with Trunks for some extra strength, and also possibly with either of them explaining more in detail how to handle his ssj2 form better. As for being able to push back Black and Zamasu in the latest fight, you can't just count on strength, but also technique. With all the shit he's gone through, I'm pretty sure he's had a lot of time to polish his important martial arts and swordsman skills to survive better. Plus he's been fighting Black for a year, that should be enough to figure out how Black fights and to take advantage of every openings in black's moveset that trunks knows. Finally, although it hasn't been used or what, it seems like Trunks never completely discarded USSJ as seen in the vegeta fight. Maybe he even can do USSJ during ssj2, resulting in some sort of USSJ2 that has the power equivalent to ssj3. It could be one sweet trump card if he lands a big ki blast in such a form, provided he can switch fast enough from regular to ultra and back to regular.

Trunks SS2 SHOULD be stronger than Goku's SS3 because he was fighting EVERY DAY whereas everyone else was just training or living in peace. He kept growing in power since he was waging a one man war against TWO super powerful immortal gods that kept him alive for sport. The "Saiyan Rage" ability is a special power-up unique to hybrids. Even in the manga, he says he trained every single day like his life depended on it, which makes sense, considering his timeline. He knew what Super Saiyan 2 was and knew it could be obtained some way, but the reason why he never achieved 3 is because he didn't know there was a form beyond 2. And despite that, he says that he never settled with the power of SSJ2 and kept training it, which is why it's almost as strong as SSJ3. He also didn't fight black aside from that one skirmish where he caught him off guard. The rest of it he was fighting Zamasu, who couldn't even beat SSJ2 Goku.

This. He saw Gohan went SSJ2 and he knew with enough practice (17 years is a very long time, lol), he also can unlock the form. And who said you need training partner to achieve SSJ2? Sure it is more convenient but not necessary. Goku did it and SSJ3 too on his own. Of course Kaio help him with the training by putting more and more weight but that was all. It was up to Goku to surpass his limit. And Vegeta also unlocked SSJ and SSJ2 (yes, he achieved SSJ2 even before he went Majin) by himself training in Gravity Chamber made by Bulma.

Also, I believe Trunks has better control and mastery over SSJ2 form than anyone in the series. And from what the series has shown, Goku did not really master the SSJ3 due to high energy output and demand to maintain the form, at least not up to Trunks mastery of SSJ2. The form is best used when he was dead because no strain is put on the body. Goku rarely uses the form or even trains with it. This is my opinion why SSJ2 Trunks>SSJ3 Goku.

One of the key points was that it'd create or enter a separate timeline, not change their timelines. Trunks going to the present timeline just to get strong enough to beat the androids himself when he gets back is what ended up happening, but it wasn't what they intentionally planned for. Are you sure Kaio could've found new namek? Goku's been dead, did he just decided to never check in on his family and friends? Why is Trunks so strong now? Simple; Because he's been fighting Black. All of his close encounters with death, and constantly kept on a blade's edge of tension, has made him strong. Look at what a single fight with Frieza did for a Goku, or just one fight with Cell did for Gohan. Trunks has been fighting an opponent who's superior to both of them, many, many times. It's just that simple.

The reason why hybrids have so much more potential than full blooded saiyans is because they have more emotional attachment than their full blooded counterparts who tend to be more cold; of which a saiyans dormant strength is unlocked and derived from their feelings. Goku is an outlier because he we raised as a human but even him throughout the series wasn't as emotional as gohan or trunks or goten. He hust cared about his friends and loved to get stronger and fight. Trunks, gohan and goten fight out of necessity which is what brings out the rage inside them and springboards their power to new levels that would be much harder for a goku or a vegeta to achieve seeing is their main motivation to get stronger is to be the best and compete. It wasn't until goku lost his best friend throughout child which made him tap into his emotions to do any such powerup like super saiyan. And goku only developed such emotion because he was raised as a human not a saiyan.

Yeah, only takes 1 look at how strong and hard vegeta had to work in order to gain his power. Its obvious what was holding him back was the boost you get from being desperate. It was only until Vegeta became broken at the realization he might never be a super saiyan and became desperate which was when he was finally able to achieve it. But that being desperate was a human emotion that he picked up from being around the other z-fighters too.

The problem with what you say is that when you look at absolutes, Vegeta and Goku remain the most powerful saiyans, both full and half breed. Half breeds may have more emotions which allow unlocking their full potential, but they lack the commitment and drive pure saiyans have to maintain such power. Gohan depowers every chance he gets while Vegeta and Goku never get weaker. Potential means nothing when there is no determination.

DrNotEmpathetic You are right, but at the same time you aren't. It's not being half saiyan which boosts your power.. Its the emotions you gain from being raised by humans. Saiyans were known for being cold blooded, ruthless and uncaring. They went thousands of years with no one becoming a super Saiyan. Hell, would Vegeta have ever even become a Super Saiyan if he was never introduced to the Z-fighters? probably not.... There were incredibly strong saiyans alive, but none of them had the emotional investment to take their power even further. Goku and even Vegeta were both around humans enough to start getting emotionally invested in certain things. I think it was highlighted by Vegeta learning to sense power levels (on namek) just because he fought with them on earth Vegeta and Goku are the most powerful, sure. But they have both used human emotions to surpass what was previously possible. I know this isn't really cannon, but I think Broly epitomises the limits of raw power, the perfect "Saiyan" if you will. He embodies the rage, the ruthlessness, the power that the Saiyan race strived for. Goku and Vegeta found a way passed that despite having nowhere near Brolys potential nor his thirst for battle. They did it by making use of their other emotions which is something Saiyans never previously did.

zenkai boost is a part of saiyan physiology, they grow stronger after each battle, near death beatdowns, should they survive will result in zenkai boost, SSJ or not. that's according to the series, feel free to look it up

There's only two explanations that I see that could be possible. Trunks' base is ridiculously stronger than Goku's. Meaning for his SSJ 2 to be a match for Goku's SSJ 3, he'd have to be 4x stronger than Goku's base in his own base form. Then, when he transforms into SSJ 2 that makes him 400x stronger (4x100=400) than Goku's base. So when Goku transforms into SSJ 3, which has a 400x multiplier from his base, they would be equals. That's not that far fetched when you think about it. Perhaps he doesn't train in his SSJ forms but perhaps he trains in his base form. Because the SSJ transformations are multipliers, if Trunks were to just double his strength in his base form, then his SSJ 2 would literally be 100x stronger than it was before. It's possible is all I'm saying. Or, perhaps he's learned how to control SSJ 2 like Goku and Gohan did with SSJ. So now he no longer has to waste a lot of energy to transform or to maintain the transformation. We saw how much stronger FPSSJ made Goku and Gohan. Imagine that with SSJ 2. Those are my opinions anyway.

Ok I had a thought. The reason that Trunks is so powerful is because in his timeline, Goku and Vegeta died. When they died, there was no one to protect the Earth except Trunks and Gohan. Gohan at that point was the strongest in the world but when he died, Trunks absolutely HAD to become stronger and stronger to protect the earth. He was his timeline's equivalent of Goku so he HAD to be strong or the world would have been overthrown or destroyed by some evil force. That's why he's as strong as Goku, because he is doing Goku's job for his timeline.

I think it was more technique than power. As for ssj2, all saiyans learn how things work when they see someone do them. Trunks had already essentially become ssj2. Ussj is literally incorrectly powering up to ssj2. Call it false ssj2, like how we have false ssj from the slug movie. He wittnessed gohan transform to ssj2, and he even said himself: gohan powered up correctly. He not only saw the transformation, he saw it in action and he was able to sense the energy the whole time. He is obviously going to figure out how to correctly power up eventually.

Keep in mind that Trunks is the ONLY being in his future timeline that is fighting the baddies. In current timeline there is always a group ready to defend Earth but Future Trunks can only rely on himself and so has had to push himself farther than anyone else just to keep Earth safe.

It's really not surprising. To start with, he knows about super saiyan 2, he knows he can strive for it, and he would be determined to reach that level to protect the earth. I don't think his potential matches Gohans, half breed or not. But I do think it matches, if not surpasses Vegeta's. Beyond that, he continued to fight in the future, defeating Babidi's minions and preventing Boo's release. Yes, he probably did get -some- assistance from the supreme kai, though how much is hard to guess. After that, Trunks very likely didn't rest on his laurels. As the only Z-fighter left, he'd probably continue to train with the assitance of Bulma developing training technology. Then there's the fights with Black... How many times did Trunks fight? How many times did he get defeated? Even though zenkai boosts have been downplayed since the Frieza saga, I imagine they still play a part.

I want to note that Shu recognized Trunks doing image training, then Mai picked up on it very easily. It's possible that Mai of the future learned about image training from Shu, and passed that on to Trunks. It may not raise one's powerlevel, but it would be a way to fine-tune skill without an opponent... And a way to eventually figure out a fighting style that strongly counters any given opponents, as long as you've learned enough about how they fight of course.

One more slightly unrelated note... I think it might highlight that super cyan form might not be that far beyond what they can achieve going SSJ2 or 3. An improvement, and a step towards being able to challenge the god of destruction himself, but not really so far beyond that other mortal beings can't contend. In a way, this makes golden Frieza make sense. He's mortal, even if he did manage to give himself a tremendous power boost, and develope a transformation that mimicks how SSJ works... He likely only just surpasses SSJ3.

I think you missed something, we know he wasn't able to beat or push back Black Goku before coming to the past, he couldn't damage him at all, but Goku in SS1 was able to not only hold off Black but also injure him. That means that SS1 Goku is still stronger than SS2 Future Trunks. More than likely, SS2 Future Trunks is probably at about the level Vegeta was when he was Majin Vegeta or maybe a little higher. Though now that he's trained with Vegeta, it could be closer to what Goku is at in SS1. With further training i think he could become SSB, and i have a feeling that might be where this arc is heading, especially since Vegeta seems to be encouraging Trunks (and the other saiyan from universe 6) to reach SSB and surpass him.

It makes perfect sense Trunks would be so strong. Look at how he grew up. For the majority of his life, he was under the whims of the androids. They killed the majority of the people in his life, and even killed future Gohan. A character that basically acted like his father figure. But, the important thing is, how did Trunks perceive that? He saw it as a sign that he was too weak. Gohan fought alone, because Trunks was too weak. I.e. Gohan died, because Trunks was too weak. You think someone w/ the mentality of "If only I was stronger, that wouldn't have happened" - who knew about the ssj2 transformation from the fight with Cell - would skimp on leg day? He'd fcking love leg day - and because of his time in the hyperbolic time chamber w/ vegeta - he probably learned a lot of techniques for solo training. He might have started getting lax around the time Babidi and Dabura showed up - but Dabura was supposed to have been pretty close to Cell's strength. -- He said it himself, "It was a close fight" As in, it was re-affirmed to him - that if he didn't keep up his training pace - something like w/ the androids could happen again. When Trunks unlocks the "Super Saiyan anger form - he's shown to have a bit of a blue aura. I'm almost positive that blue is god ki. I think ssj god form is simply a form one can achieve - and it has absolutely nothing to do w/ being able to use god ki. Irregardless of what is said in the show - because none of the gods or characters in the show - are all knowing.

Let me explain this for u guys the only thing that made trunks relevant against black is seeing his father get hurt and his sword if u notice black goes out of his way to knock his sword out of his hand. As far Zamasu I don't think Zamasu is that strong I think the only thing he has going for him is immortality if u notice he needs blacks help to do any major damage that's why trunks could go toe to toe with Zamasu and not black. After watching the cell saga it's obvious half breeds are the shit and we don't understand there full potential but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with human emotion. but the only reason trunks lasted as long as he did was the reasons I stated above

You pretty much got it exactly right. Trunks never got hit by Black during the fight in episode. I'm sure if he had been hit, he would have been taken down easily. As you said, he goes against Zamasu, but Zamasu probably hadn't got any stronger since the day he got beaten by SSJ2 Goku, since he was going to wish for immortality anyway. Just because Trunks was in the fight, doesn't mean he was actually posing a threat. He was standing in for Vegeta.

I thought the answer was simple. Goku trains alot, yeah. But Trunks survives alot more. The universe Trunks is from is constantly being fucked up the arse. Goku's universe is only occasionally being fucked up the arse. Trunks, having to be the only and only one, responding to each of these attacks has probably racked up more experience fighting than what Goku has. Remember, the android arc didn't actually last that long for the Z-Warriors. But for Trunks, the battle lasted years. In my mind, and maybe I'm wrong on this, Trunks is strong because his universe is in constant turmoil and he has to constantly rise to action. It's simply a matter of how much one fights compared to the other.

I dont see how this would play out, yes, during the android arc he fought the androids for a really long time, however, he took the timemachine to go to "present time" because he couldn't kill them alone, he was weaker then Goku when he arrived obviously.. Then, he trained his ass off and was still weaker then Goku and Gohan.. Saga ends, he goes back to his own time and kills them without trouble. At that point he should still be the same strength level as he was when he went back. For the rest of the sagas not a lot changes, Buu arc goes the same.. so, in the end, there isn't more turmoil, you're forgetting that he's from the future everything that happened in his timeline should've also happened in the normal timeline.. theres no valid reason for him to be able to stand up against hybrids gods and what nots..

What I figure is considering as we have seen Sayian power is tied closely with ones anger or rage. Considering all the shit Trunks has had to deal with he would have been angry a lot. If he were to learn how to harness and manipulate that state of mind he could exponentially increase the effectiveness of training. Thus rapidly boosting his power.

Honestly, I didn't consider Trunks "so strong" in Super, since the first time we see him fight, he's losing to Goku Black, and did so repeatedly before then. That impression stayed with me, especially since zenkai boosts apparently do not exist anymore. I did figure Trunks would naturally progress on his own. He is his timeline's only Z Fighter, so no choice but to get stronger or die. No idea how he trained. Future Dabura should have been much stronger than the future androids, so being able to kill him at all should have put Trunks at least in the same neighborhood of SS2 Gohan having slacked off on training after Cell. Trunks obviously hasn't slacked off, so he should be stronger still. Also, I consider Zamasu oddly strong for a god, but that's because gods don't fight often before Super, and when they did they were usually losing. I'm more impressed there's a god other than Beerus who can hang with Goku in his base form, especially for one who used to be a Kai. So if anything, it's less that Trunks was too strong to start with, and more that Zamasu was. Especially since we have no idea how Zamasu got that strong, but with Trunks we can at least made educated guesses.

ShinRaphael yeah that's what I was lead to believe which in turn can show hiw I can sort of break it down in a way that kind of makes sense For the record we all know power levels are bs but run with me on this and keep this fact in mind ssb is to a point that can't be compared to the other ssj forms (1 to 3) Vegeta being the one to say they are almost as strong as each other can be interpreted in this specfic way since he is so powerful "The gap between Goku's ssj3 and Trunks' ssj2 is significant but if you compare it to Vegeta's ssb its such a small gap in power through his eyes or rather his perspective" A perfect example is this Vegeta's power when he got to Namek was 24000, and Dodoria had a power of 20000 There is a gap of 4000, its a pretty decent sized gap depending on perspective and Vegeta washed Dodoria easily But to somebody like Frieza who has a power of 530,000 in his weakest form looks at such a gap as nothing So imagine this (this is only an example) Goku ssj3 = 500 billion Trunks ssj2 = 475 billion Vegeta ssb = 1 trillion 75 billion is a major gap, but to Vegeta that's really next to nothing if his power is 1 trillion That's at least how I can make sense of it sorry for ranting on lol

So simple, it's mainly down the Genke Dama (spirit bomb). The other boosts of training, being a hybrid, potential unlocked, zen Kai boosts when he recovers and fighting black all makes a difference of course. Trunks also knows Blacks moves which is handy when fighting. Trunks through out the entire saga is slowly learning the Spirit sword/spirit aura technique. It's a mixture between rage and the spirit bomb. This move is bloody powerful. Trunks is also the most tactical fighter as shown many times. Goku actually uses the Kaio Ken. Trunks move is like: Kaio Ken + Spirit Bomb/sword/aura + Potential unlocked. The Kaio Ken is a multiplier so Trunks move is a much stronger multiplier than the Kaio Ken. It's enough to move from Super Saiyan 2 to Super Saiyan God.

there's another factor that plays into this too, when the saiyans gets *brutally damage* in battle they come back even *stronger* just like when vegeta was nearly dead on the planet Namek by Zarbon (i think?) only when he was able to kill Zarbon. So, maybe during the Majin buu part for future trunks he probably got his a55 handed to him a lot by his majin buu then his supreme kai probabl notice that future trunk was losing a lot and decided to *train* him in order to defeat majin buu then saw that future trunk can *go even farther* then SSJ 1 and help him *unlock* his true potential which got him stronger.

Trunks didn't even go SSJ2 in the fight between Future Zamasu and Black. There was not a single spark of electricity, and Trunks himself says "I went Super Saiyan and used my most powerful technique (Final Flash)". Plus, we don't even know the SSJ Rose level. Even if Trunks is SSJ3 power level, even still, when he punched Rose Black into a wall, in reality should've broke his arm / leg (whatever he used, since they didn't even animate how he punched / kicked Black into the wall)... Rose Black should not have been even slightly pushed back by Trunks.. To me, it's like Hercule punching Kid Buu and Kid Buu flies all the way back crashing into a wall.. It just wouldn't happen. That's how much stronger the SSJR should be compared to any non-godly SSJ.
