@@andytheawesome7592 are those specific circumstances things like mode 7?

Thats wrong, the LSD effect was supported by barebone Hardware. Its a feature which allowed the SNES to know at what line of Pixels the screen currently renders the image and depending on the line, it moves the screen differently creating this wobbly effect. The Fx chip also has a very limited amount of pixels it can render, it would not be capable for it to render the entire background The Super FX Chip was used for rotation. The SNES was unable to rotate Sprites, it was totally impossible for the device. Everything that rotates used a different highly specific workaround (like rotating an entire layer, which ofcause effects everything so not suited for singular objects) Yoshis Island has *everything* rotating. The game is full of rotating sprites, they are everywhere. Thats what the Super FX chip is for, to render these

Most of those portable devices have trouble because of one or two things. 1. The CPU in them is extremely underpowered. IMO, even if they are weak, I remember playing this game 20 years ago on a cheap low end desktop PC, 15 years ago on a cheap low end laptop, and on the wii. And furthermore, this game is playable on the 3ds, even the o3ds if you use the snes9x and not the official vc version. I also remember it technically being playable on an old ds flashcart. Still, despite this being less likely, a lot of cheap handhelds do come out with bottom of the barrel CPUs in them that apparently struggle to compete with 20 year old low end CPUs. They pick these due to how cheap they are and due to them consuming little to no power compared to more powerful CPUs (even mobile CPUs). 2. More likely the reason is that most of those handhelds are built using outdated (or too accurate) emulator cores. Most of them likely use retroarch or some other frontend for their own emulation cores and due to how many cheap devices come out looking the same, often also coming with their own roms/isos (that they are totally legally allowed to distribute....). With snes, there are several different emulator cores in retroarch and the older builds are often used by people running it on older low end hardware. So it's possible they are using a really old build made before Yoshi's Island could be properly emulated. Or they are using a newer core that the hardware can't properly handle. Either way, the saying that you get what you pay for seems to hold true.
@patsk8872 Жыл бұрын
Your 20 year old PC had an Intel or AMD x86 architecture chip with a large instruction set. Most of the handhelds run phone chips with Android. It's not just that they are "weak" but a different architecture and OS, and that the emulators haven't been worked on enough yet. Case in point the recent huge upgrade to emulation/fps on the RP3+
