The one reason I don't have Premium, despite wanting it, is the cost. I simply don't have £13 a month on my income. They could try pricing it by feature, like just removing ads for like a fiver a month and I might consider it, but until then, I'm sticking to ad-blockers.

I fought against premium because it is the most expensive monthly subscription whilst not producing any content, unlike Prime, Netflix or Disney. I use Premium now because, whilst I can deal with ads I couldn't deal with the ad propaganda. The ads were enraging me.

I love KZbin Premium. I do wish it was a bit cheaper... but there is so much music on there and NO ADS, while still paying the creators! I have to admit though, that the only real reason I initially went for it was when my KZbin revenue from my content went above what the subscription cost was. Sadly, the revenue I now get from KZbin is getting so low, it is verging on becoming not enough to allow me to afford YT Premium.... I don't generally put mid-roll ads in my vids, so maybe I might have to consider doing so, but I don't want to annoy the few viewers I have as is.

@@kevindarkstar The issue with pricing is make it £10, people will say it should be £8 and so on, if it is too cheap humans will conclude it must be a poor service as it can be that good for that low price and they lose even more. A good way to calculate this issue is, if you have say Netflix divide the cost by the number of minutes watched, do the same for KZbin and I bet you find you pay a lot more per min of video for Netflix. ( This is working on the basis that you watch a fair amount of KZbin, given the subject of the video I am assuming you use it as one of your primary feeds)

I don't like YT ads, it's why i have an Ad Blocker, until Google pays for the private data they steal they have no justification to charge me for an ad free experience. If everyone uses an ad blocker the creators would get more power to demand a reduction in spam or they can move to a reasonable platform and take Googles profits with them. I also strongly object to subscriptions being forced on us, if i wanted to live in a communist / rentier country i would move to one.

I've been a premium member for years, now on the family package so everyone in my house has it. I cannot stand the ads. YT music is good for introducing me to new music and it syncs with my speaker in the kitchen. Knowing creators get extra also pleases me. I like being able to download videos, and I like having the screen off so I can listen to podcasts if I'm working. My only other sub is Discovery for the BSB.

Plenty of creators just lever their 'video sponsor' in as part of the main video anyway, so you pay for premium then have to watch (or fast forward) their often lengthy and often multiple adverts regardless.

I have KZbin premium and I think it’s really worth it, no ads and the creators I watch still get a bit back. I also have Netflix which is up and down on whether there is anything to watch. I cancelled my TV licence because I only watch KZbin and Netflix and the occasional catch up on channel 4. Not paying the TV licence almost pays for KZbin premium.

I don't have any subcriptions to any streaming services, I run my own media server. Premium subscriber here! Love it, can't bare the ads! Some might say It's a bit pricey but I watch more on KZbin than any other platform so worth it in my mind, especially since KZbin Music is what I use in the car, literally every day. The only other subscription I have is BBC (TV License) because I do watch some news and start my day (most days) with BBC Breakfast. Got rid of Netflix a couple of years ago, Mrs has a Prime subscription.

I don't have premium, but I do have several memberships on YT. Memberships fit better with how I want to support the people I watch, it's just missing the no ads part. I don't have any need for YT music because I have Bandcamp for my niche underground music and my old CDs or the high seas for the nostalgia music. For other subscriptions, I have Prime, and that's only as long as Amazon pays Clarkson and May. As for ads, when I was younger I thought that I hated ads in general, but I have come to realise that it's the way ads are that grinds my gears. They almost always come off as downright stupid or disingenuous / fake. My best example of a good ad would be the late TotalBiscuit's Sandisk ads for hes Starcraft tournament, simple and to the point, and to me, he was a trusted source for the product. ​Yeah, cheap petrol. The lowest price I remember from when I was a kid here in Denmark, was 6,40Dkr. for a litre. And I believe that the exchange rate at the time was around 10 or 11Dkr. to 1£. Petrol is about 13,60Dkr. a litre now.

I don't ever remember paying over £1.8X a litre. Amazing the difference it makes depending on where you are too. I'd get youtube premium if there was an option for JUST no ads. £12.99 is just too much for me. I don't use the downloads, I don't use the music, I don't use the background play thing. If there was a £5, maybe a $7 ad free version, I'd buy it. Instantly. I just went to check the price and it gave me this statistic. I've not had YTP since June. Ad-free KZbin watched > 1,430 hrs. lmao. I only ever use youtube on the PC or on my tablet when I go to bed once or twice a week.

I'm oldskool, probably. Still download my music, handpick which goes to my phone etc. Still have dvd's and/or blurays etc. I don't have any subscriptions really at this moment. This browser, which is mostly motorcycle content creators and smaller channels, My "main" browser does have an adblocker (built in the browser though), and is used to watch stuff from channel 4 or bigger companies and/or channels. So don't really care. The only subscription I have is prime, and not for the series/movies but mainly due to free shipping and/or express shipping. But I do use it now to binge Supernatural, as I don't have that series on DVD. ;) And I have a Cinema unlimited pass, because supporting local cinema and watching movies on the big screen, where some of them belong, is something I consider as a hobby. So a set amount per month to enjoy a hobby is worth it :)

Yes I have KZbin Premium, originally for music (I listen to albums so the shuffle thing doesn't bother me). I got rid of Netflix simply because I never watched anything on it. I have Amazon Prime & Kindle subscriptions, and occasionally watch something on Prime. I also have a sub to the New York Times (I am in the Scottish Highlands) and did have a Readly sub for quite a while. I don't have a TV, I use a 50 inch monitor plugged into both my pc (for video conferencing etc) and a raspberry pi for casual viewing such as now. Incidentally the other day Facebook reminded me that 10 years ago I had been moaning about petrol prices, so I did a bit of maths and surprisingly enough it turns out that despite the pump price now being higher; in real terms (taking inflation into account) petrol is actually 20% cheaper than it was back then. No consolation whatsoever to anyone but there you go!

KZbin premium keeps blocking a chosen videos with a warning page when you open in another tab and it keeps doing it. And KZbinrs need to self sensor for stuff we want to know. Amazon premium gives you next day delivery but it became next night delivery (up to 10pm)

There is simple reason why I did not upgreade yet. Because the ONLY feature I would be paying for is to get rid of videos. NO new features that are badly missing, like blocking channels, setup the interface, get rid of shorts, the wishlist goes on. So what do I do? Keep upgrading and changing my add-on add blockers. Who suffers because of that? Creators. Probably not much, but they do. It is up to KZbin to come up with a business case that works, not me paying for their lazyness. They have a unique market position and they feel they don't need to improve their product. Their choice. Oh and - I don't care about another compressed music source. I have Tidal. KZbin should try to (separately!) monetize on the live albums / concerts - most music streaming services have very little of those.

I've had KZbin premium in the past but as a music service it doesn't support Dolby Atmos or lossless audio which I personally use a lot. (There's a ton of Atmos music on Apple and some of it is absolutely awesome, through a dedicated home cinema I should add and not via headphones which isn't the same at all) I've subscribed to the apple one family plan instead which gives me the audio formats I use, Apple TV , Games, Fitness and iCloud. For me and four other members of my "family", that don't need to be in the same household ala netflix. I've had other services shared back with me in return 😉 So other than no advertising KZbin premium doesn't represent good value, for me anyway.

I took out a Prime subscription in 2021 for the free shipping. It was late 2023 before I discovered Prime Video. I don't pay for online music subscriptions because I like to listen to my own music while I'm out on my bike (and signals are generally shitty on A-roads at the best of times). Ergo, CDDA/MP3 for the win. DVD video for the win as well, because I don't trust that the shows I want to watch will be on Prime and not behind a paywall and locked under a single-device licence for the download - let's not even go there with Prime video downloads, it's a confusing, limited, annoying mess (plus the fact that you have to log in to Prime before you can watch them even a local copy, wtf is that about??). I had Netflix until they pulled Discovery TWO DAYS before season 3(?) dropped - with zero warning. With ripped local content from a physical source I don't have to put up with ads anyway. As for YT Premium, Brave for the win. No ads. Period. Yes it loads the ads but it doesn't shove them down my throat and I've yet to see any sort of adblocker warning bullshit.

I think some people are against premium because youtube has always been free, then they started to put ads in videos, then they made it so you could pay to not see ads. I got conned into KZbin premium. “Two months free” then charged me straight away. My fault, I know. I just don’t agree with ads being two minutes long for a video that’s less than that or treating it like tv used to be. Eg three minutes of ads, less than ten minutes of video, five minutes of ads, etc. The number and volume of ads are what stopped me watching people like Hoovies and the car wizard. I also don’t appreciate watching ads on my own videos that aren’t monetised. I hope that gives you enough context and clarity rather than coming across as a rant.

They allow people to basically back up as much video as they like. If you want to watch your videos without ads, watch them off your pc. Want other people to see them? I think I feel a bit manipulated by big G, in that they've gradually increased the adverts on YT to the point where they are pushing folk into it by making the ads incessant. As I reckon you correctly think, its the previous state of free and fewer ads being in the back of people's minds. If it was a few quid cheaper per month, I think they'd have a lot more subscriptions.

I don't have any other comparison. Availability of some records/artists is kind of weird - like not that long ago there was no Hendrix there... or some records of an artist are missing ... We are bombarded by ads everywhere. I don't pay ITV or Sky to stop showing ads but I do get sick of them and it puts me off their product and I turn off the TV. I'm not paying KZbin to stop assailing me with ads, it just makes it less useful and less attractive to me. If it reaches the point where I have to tolerate the intrusive ads, I'll drop YT altogether.

I don't have you tube premium, for a couple of reasons. 1/ most of the content on KZbin is not quality content like yours, in fact it is crap. Top ten lists, reaction vids, AI generated BS (don't get me started on that c%$p), shorts (because apparently we all have the attention span of a goldfish) etc; great for having on in the background, but not something to dedicate attention to, and I'm fine with them getting "points on pence" from ad revenue, from my "watch". For the good content I prefer the patron/membership route, like I'm a patron of your channel, and directly give to the people who make good content. 2/ I don't like the google platform. I don't like the inconsistent way rules are applied, for example say the wrong word in a video an no matter the context, it gets demonetised or taken down, forcing creators to use silly words like grape and smexy when having serious discussions about things, we all know the real words it replaces, so it is pointless. However, an OF creator can do a "see through clothing try on haul" vid, leave nothing to the imagination, minors can watch it, and reporting it gets no response as it doesn't break guidelines. I'd prefer to see an age rated way of displaying content, but that would be too difficult to implement. I also hate the way the platform becomes a echo chamber for ideas and and theories, with the algorithm returning you more of the same content steadily getting more extreme, dividing society into extremist viewpoints on a lot of topics from politics to gender wars. Google also don't have the best track record for not pulling the rug out from under your feet, being a gen X I have had to replace my movie/music collection numerous times, from cassette tape to CD to digital, to streaming, and from vcr to DVD to blu ray to digital to streaming. It wasn't long ago that I had both google music and google movies, I had purchases in these, and google dumped them to replace them with youtube equivalents and whilst I can still get my content I have a much worse user experience to do so, so f&*k 'em. In answer to your other question I have most of the streaming services, Spotify, Netflix, paramount, Disney, prime, itvx, and I completely disagree there is nothing to watch on those. There is always something worth watching on them, my biggest gripe with them, especially Netflix, is that the are only interested in new sign ups so often good content doesn't get renewed for new series as that is less likely to attract new sign ups over existing members. The other streaming services also have an annoying echo chamber type algorithm too, where you watch an action movie and apparent the top 10 movies being watched are action movies, whereas you look on someone else's account and the top 10 movies are completely different, meaning it can be hard to find some content if you have eclectic tastes like me.

Id estimate KZbin makes up over 95% of my entertainment viewing/listening other than the occasional audiobook or something on ITV X. I have no need for a TV license so what I'm saving there covers the cost of YT Premium and also saves on a Spotify subscription too. The YT Music shuffle really bugs me though and and thats almost enough to make me get Spotify too

Premium is extortion. How do I know this? By KZbins actions. If I remember correctly, way back when KZbin first started there were no ads, or at most the bare minimum, then as KZbin became more popular the ads increased, then multiple ads per video, now multiple ads per video and some are almost 1 minute long. They keep increasing the ads to make it more frustrating so that you give in and just buy premium. That's borderline extortion. Back in the day the Mafia would ask businesses for money in exchange for protection (Premium) and if they didn't pay up then they would send Men around to the business to smash it up and then come back the following day and ask if they still don't want protection. KZbin may not be smashing peoples businesses up but they are preying on peoples social media addiction (and yes it is addictive) and they know that eventually, over time, weak minded people who need their daily dose of KZbin will pay up if they just keep increasing ads and time of ads slowly over time. And many other businesses use this greedy unfair business practice. It's like a dealer giving you stuff for free and when you get addicted they charge you, then over time they give you less stuff for the same price or just increase the price more and more over time. It's preying on addictions. By the way, when I say "Weak minded people" will pay for Premium that's not an attack, since it is an addiction and so it's not really the persons fault. Businesses make social media addictive on purpose and always look for ways to make it even more addictive. Just like games can be addictive and buying "Weapon Skins" and other similar things in games. It's designed that way on purpose. Of course, some people just buy Premium simply because they can afford it and really don't care about paying extra. What would truly be a fair premium is instead of shoving ads in peoples faces offer something else for the premium that people would want. For instance, being able to paste gifs and memes as well as other things in the comments section that standard users cannot do. That's actually a feature I have always wanted to be able to do on youtube, it would make the comments section so much more entertaining.

You seem to be coming at this from an angle of watching KZbin should be free, if not an anate right. That is one of the big issues, it has never been free. In the early days KZbin and the creators footed the bill for you. Now the site is huge, who is going to pay for it? Storing and streaming video is VERY expensive (4k is extremely expensive) so KZbin needs to pay for that and the staff to run the site. The videos you watch are made by people who spend their money to make videos, they need to be compensated. Regarding your last bit, posting memes and gifs in the comments? Do you realise how much that would be missused / abused? and most of that would be AI bots.

​​@@spicy110 It's not really that I have anything against paying Premium, especially if it helps KZbin creators. It's the fact that they shove way too many ads in peoples faces, some of which are 1 minute long, which just makes the whole experience less enjoyable. And that's not really fair on those that cannot afford Premium. It just feels like a punishment for not paying for Premium. Some say it's "Dirt cheap" for what you get, but that depends on the individual. Life is getting increasingly expensive.
