I was quite surprised when I a few months ago, decided to search up Zundamon on Pixiv and hit the "Oldest first", taking me a whopping decade back, showing me an entirely different- yet recognizable character. It's always fun to see characters from a whole different time, getting new life breathed into them. I can be a little concerned that Zundamon will be facing a rapidly approaching burnout and once again, just get dumped away, labeled "an old internet meme".

I saw Zundamon used by Gyari and Satapan and was confused since she seems to have no presence in the US vocaloid community. I recently went to Akihabara and the only vocaloid options for gacha machines were either one that had a random variety of crypton vocaloids, or one that was exclusively Zundamon stuff. I walked away in solace with 3 Meiko pins.

So it's natural to assume she is. As a Japanese person, I say that you are overthinking things. Zundamon is popular simply because her voice is easy to listen to and her intonation is accurate when she reads Japanese sentences. She is so familiar in Japan that she is even used in supermarket announcements, so it is pointless to try to understand her popularity only from the perspective of ACG content.

​@@Suwawako Actually, I don't know much about Vocaloid or Voiceroid. There are many things I learned for the first time after watching this video. However, one thing is certain: regardless of whether they are Otaku or not, the image that many Japanese people have of Zundamon and the knowledge they have of it is that it is software that accurately reads aloud with a child's voice. It is so familiar in Japan that even university professors would consider having Zundamon read their lectures for them when they have a sore throat. Zundamon is often used as a text-to-speech software in Japan, just like the free material site "Irasutoya".

The trend has been over for several years now, but it is needless to say that it has damaged Zundamon's character image. However, Zundamon is still doing its best today to raise the profile of the Tohoku region.
