Why isn't my sculpt SMOOTH?

I really like sculptures with a lot of detail, wrinkles, deformations, etc etc ... and for me it is a great challenge to understand the structure of the mesh, sometimes my sculpture is too dense and that is a problem, I have to find a way to continue forward . you and I have very different styles but your videos are very helpful to me Dave , thank you very much .🔥👍🔥

In my own sculpting, lumpiness mostly follows me using clay and then not being able to smooth properly. Great tips though. Thx

If you smooth and it doesn’t smooth, voxel remesh lower until it does smooth. Then you can voxel remesh back up.

When I turn off the environment, I often don't see the object because it doesn't reflect any of the light I add. I would like to know how to set it so that the sculpture remains visible even if the environment is turned off.

Use a matcap, that’s what I use to sculpt. 👍🏾

I’ve been wondering what’s the point of smooth shading vs flat? When I finish a model all done in smooth shading, should I be checking in flat view to sharpen, crease and finalize the sculpt? In render, would smooth shading be toggled on by default?

yes, when rendering smooth shading is always on. Every 3D software and renderer has that.

It depends on how you want it to look. Smooth shading just blends the hard edges as best it can to look smooth. But if you want it not smooth, you can leave it off! 👍🏾

Does anyone know how to export a character with layers to procreate for painting? I have tried exporting individual pieces in .png format which is okay, but when I try to export/import my .obj file it won't do anything. Thoughts? Thanks. P.s. Dave, thank you so much for your channel!

@@I_was_a_Bullfrog Thanks for answering. And yes. I've even tried selecting and exporting only one layer at a time with all other layers muted. Still getting the same results. I'm sure the fix is super simple, I've just noted found it yet.

I don’t know the answer, but could be that exporting with layer information isn’t possible. I don’t think it is with blender. I stopped trying to use procreate bc it was frustrating when this feature first came out. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl again soon!
