My opinion: Sanda should NOT be in the Olympics. When TKD and Judo became Olympic sports, it started to get wayyy watered down. I see that happening with any full contact sport that joins the Olympics. Also I think there are some Sanda pro leagues that do allow elbows and knees.

Sanda Tian Xia (Professional Sanda ) allows the knees. The bouts are held in a boxing rings however the trade off of the knees is the lesser use of throws as they focus on kneeing each other in a clinch.

The Sanda sidekick is so good in an MMA context, especially if you have a boxing base. I noticed it's way easier to side kick vs teep kicking my opponent's mid section consistently. It's just harder to get a single off a side kick vs a caught teep in my personal experience.

So Kung Fu had early kickboxing features. And Shoaling Kung Fu literally has loads of punching and kicking techniques. @@cyc20976 Dont worry. Since Muay thai is the best stand up style today. Everyone claims it. China wants Muay thai. India wants Muay thai. Cambodia wants Muay thai. Even Burma and Laos too want Muay thai. Yet there is only one truth. Actually, raw Muay Thai came from Africa. The Africans taught it to the Indians and the Indians taught it to the Chinese ie Kung fu. I'm not really fussed whether it's in the Olympics or not but there is definitely an argument that the CMA community would benefit from more sparring and friendly competition. The celebrity in it isn't there yet. Karate had/has the US, a bunch of celebrities and hollywood, and PKA, then Lyoto Machida going on a run in the UFC as a very visible karateka. Muay Thai has Tony Jaa, Buakaw, Saenchai, Samart, Sagat. K1 brought MT further west. Then Brazilian fighters pushed bjj and MT into mma by whooping everyone's asses with them, so then those explode. TKD has most of the karate bump, but the child care/after school activity and low equipment cost makes it more appealing to parents. In Houston suburbs I can pass by 3-5 different TKD gyms of varying names in a 20 minute drive from my house.

I think the main issue in terms of popularity is that it's just not very exciting. It's basically continuous point sparring. No one is getting knocked out or submitted, and the matches are often decided by a high volume of little dumps. Continuous sparring is helpful, and is enjoyable to watch for martial artists, but it needs more spice to attract a more general audience. I think Matt is right in saying that a 4-second clinch would be better. Being able to strike on the ground, or strike more powerfully generally, would also attract a wider audience. Perhaps Karate Combat is a good model in that regard?

But i think it removes the fun of the sport because its so you keep on trying to get points in a short time so your only option is to attack ro counter in a quick and smart way but if the time is streched there will be no reason to rush and your iq which is a big factor in the game.

This was my impression of Sanda: the fighters mostly lack body conditioning. I've seen alot of body KO's even with pads. I don't want to bring them down, but their ability to take strikes is horrible in comparison to Muay Thai. It's easy to see why that is the case. From training videos I've seen, they're always using pads. You gotta drop the body protection and develop the ability to take heavy shots. I would love to watch a tournament of Sanda vs Muay with the ruleset favoring Sanda for three fights and the other three favoring Muay Thai. This will never happen though because Sanda was formed by the communist party to bring fighting back into Chinese culture. The communists would never let their sport get embarrassed, but it should if they actually want to improve it. The same thing is happening in Cambodia right now where I live and Kun Khmer. They're in denial.

I don't know about lacking in condition. I fought in sanda ruleset a couple of times, and I was on point with my conditioning. So being able to Ko even through the pads show that their PowerShots are insanely strong. The better kicker in UFC story was a sanda fighter Cung le. There's no better style. There's the better fighter in that moment.

Speaking of Sanda, since chinese martial arts is useless against most of the martial arts we known..so chinese decided to combine some boxing, grappling, muay thai kick, and others together, so this is how sanda was created dont ask me why i know about this cuz I'm chinese

The Chinese Communists are behind the times... as usual. Kickboxing died out in the 90's. MMA is where it's at now.

Sanda is more exciting than MMA though. No boring ground hugging.

@@johncena12366 Sanda is the women's golf of the martial arts world. If it was exciting, people would watch it.

Sanda is perfect for mma, how you can see in One championship. Many Asian fighters use Sanda striking and throwing and of course that's great. The problem is in ufc because is an American league. Every single thing related with China is a problem for the USA.. That's the core of the problem

Maybe this is just from the outside looking in, but there also seems to be a lack of support and promotion by the Chinese Communist Party. One would think that the largest country in the world would put a lot of national pride in a highly effective, indigenous sport.

We cannot allow Chinese martial arts, phones, EV cars, integrated chips, ... etc. in any Western area. Only boxing, karate, judo, and tae kwon do should be allowed. And no salat and no escrima allowed.

Best fight sport ruleset. Way more exciting to watch without all the boring ground grappling. Plus no ropes on the Lei Tai completely changes the strategy
