The reason Israel has heavy vehicles is because they expect to fight defensive wars pretty close to their own borders. Israel does not expect to do massive expeditionary missions.

@@MargaretCho-pt3ng - Israel won't be fighting inside Iran as it is too far away from Israel. However, both Lebanon and Syria border Israel to the north, and therefore fighting within Lebanon and Syria does not really constitute an expeditionary mission. Thus, you did not put much thought into your posted comment at all.

The world's best, if you don't actually need to go anywhere. Wonderful if your enemy is on your doorstep, but totally unviable for most nations who may need to project power abroad, the weight would kill the logistics.

Its not meant for long range transport, its meant for last mile infantry insertion. You need something like this to accompany armor during assaults. 113s and Strykers dont have the armor protection needed for such a role. IDF uses other vehicles for longer range movement.

A follow-on series of vehicles after the Centurion tanks were converted to Heavy APC in the 1990s. The Namer used early Merkava MBTs with the turrets removed, the frontal armour is still MBT standard. But the APC version had the new armour added to the sides and rear of the vehicle. The IDF used the Namer for policing, but the British use APCs only as 'Battle Taxies' transporting men from rear to front lines. On the battlefield a serious hit can wipe out the entire APC crew and passengers at one go.

First off it's an APC and or IFV based off of the Merkava tank . Because it doesn't have tank gun armorment it is not a tank . Now for the passive protection. Israel has a unique situation where it tends to fight in Urban terrain and that is the worst environment for tanks, APCs and IFVs . That is because in an urban environment vehicles can more easily be hit from the sides the rear and the top . Thankfully for the Israelis they designed both the Namor and the Merkava to have more armor on the sides ,rear and top and less in the front . It is a design compromise because of the urban environment requirements for the Merkava and Namor . In open terrain the Merkava and Namor would be at a disadvantage but in the urban environment they have an advantage.
@LyonPercival
