This MV is a modern love letter to the city pop genre and the 80s anime aesthetics, composed of notes and melodies from the vast variety of 70-80s city pops that we love and magically felt nostalgic for. Paired with the picturesque 80s anime palette, shading, the hand drawn animation, even the aspect ratio is in 4:3! It's like driving in a freshly restored retro sports car with all the modern technologies, but the sound, the experience is still analog as hack. They took inspiration from a lot of 80s Japanese creators including illustrator Hiroshi Nagai who created album cover art for many 80s City Pop classics, as well as callbacks to 80s anime too. It's really a love letter to Showa Japan. In Marine's chat the day after the MV, she talked about how much she wanted to sing a duet with Gura in this style.

Marine splurged yet again. Honestly, this must've cost way more than any of her previous stuff. The retro-themed concert is probably what she got from Cover free so this song+MV is most likely all out of Marine's pocket. That concert was pretty fun btw. You should check it out, reaction or not. They even put filters on that makes it look it was shot with those old cameras (not that it was even shot with a camera at all).

I think why marine is so good at classic song especially city pop, because marine was from 90 and she was woman of culture, so she have a taste of classic music from what we see, a classic song always there when she did a karaoke anyway. 😂 And maybe just info, this project was from the last year anniversary song who also marine make showa show too, she think it's not to bad if she make an original with city pop song, and she think it's an opportunity to sing it with others member, and the one who pop up was gura because she said gura for marine was the number 1 talent who have a good voice, and also really fit well because gura also like classic song, in the MV? In the end actually gura just eat her and end the story btw 😂 marine have a wild idea, she said she like an MV that always giving a meaning to people who see it, and she want to make it that not really related with the song.. And the story was she want to try something that really make the viewers got hypnotized from "ahhh that's so cute ~" become "wtf?" from an MV song or something she said, there's a girl that meet a mermaid and she help the meemaid and bring her to her house, day after day she become a good friend.. But the mermaid get jealous to her human friend that can walk and kill sometime outside while she stuck at the bathtub.. She's so depressed and want leg so bad, and in the she cut hee tail to make a leg from it but she died because of it.. And it's end there, just like this MV.. It's make people who watch it confused, and she want to try something like that but, yeah.. She didn't make it more extreme than that of course 🤣 she tell this after the premiere at stream, and the MV quality was like always it's so good... And yeah it's cost more than "marine set sail" who have full animation anime but it's short ver, she also have tanaka kohei the legend behind one piece music, even short ver that's more than millions.. And this cost more than that because it's full ver who also full animation, but she said to not to worry about the budget.. She's can afford it for now, while before she can't and almost make her broke, she's already the top 1 Vtuber in JP so her fans didn't have to worry maybe. the only critique that i can think of is that it is extremely derivative of every other song in the city pop genre. however the same can be said about every city pop song. another critique i have is that im not sure pairing marine with gura is ideal. both sound pretty similiar and its kind of redundant. would've been better if they had a more contrasting duo to add some more texture to the song, these are really nitpicks though. im a big hololive fan, but i am the first to criticize vtuber music as cringe and but this and hololive's recent releases have been very good.
