I have never sold a single watch. I just keep adding pieces. I don’t care about the cost or value because it’s about the chase and does it fit my taste. My boys will inherit my watches and that has far more value to me

Gentlemen - first I enjoy the videos and they have prompted me to peruse the Theo & Harris website many times. But being a LARGE man, vintages watches seldom work for me. However, I buy straps often, multiple times a month, so I figured I could show my support by purchasing those from you. But like the vintage watches, all of your offered straps are on the short side - I decided to gamble on your Raw Iron Single Pass as it appears to be one of the longest. I received it yesterday and it is gorgeous, love the look and feel, but it is also short - I literally had to vigorously hand stretch it to use the last hole. For reference, I do not have a monster wrist - larger than some, but smaller than others - measures 7.25” - I want you to know I really believe you are leaving a lot of business on the table by only making short straps. I love the look of your straps, the quality of the one I just received is exquisite and I want to secure more, but due to length I can not. Hoping you might consider expanding your length options in the future. Keep up the good work!

I read an interesting comment from someone that watches are being used like the art industry was to move illegal money. And that it's easier because a watch fits in the pocket, isn't as readily looked at when crossing borders and stuff like gold, cash, a painting would be. You can pop a $50,000 watch on a wrist and few may notice but with cash it's going to draw scrutiny. They surmised an increase in crime, and moving money is why we saw over the last 5 years such a rise in watch values. It was an interesting take to me, and one I hadn't heard before. So instead of using a Monet to launder money they now use a Patek.

Most art-buyers are gaming the market. Some also appreciate the art itself, too. A few do it for their love of the art alone. If only the latter were the case, a Picasso would be 50-100k, maybe half a million on the high end. With speculation, it's up to 115 million.

I’m not very smart but I really think it’s not a time to not buy any watch, keep your money. The price of these items has become tremendously inflated over the past two years and I think we’re at the peak. Retail sales have been falling as people anticipate the recession, its only going to get worse, this will effect watches too. People will have to start charging less if they want to keep selling watches through the coming recession. These current prices are ludicrous and everybody can see it, it’s only a matter of time before things decrease. The only things I think are safe to say will keep their value are classic patek (not the nautilis) vacheron and lange pieces (with some exceptions obviously). Vintage Rolex will not stay at the extortionate prices they are now. I’m not saying prices are going to plummet but I really don’t think they’ll keep going up, so if you’re buying an expensive watch with hopes to sell it for a profit in a few years don’t bother.
@ameeral-shammaa9012 Жыл бұрын
The whole talk is kind of detached from reality… a guy who buys a Patek for 2.7 mill is not really interested in the amount it’s going to appreciate even if it triples over 10 years. This is not a guy who has 10 mill in cash and decided to invest 2.7 mill in a watch. This is usually a billionaire who is interested in spending the cash overflow that doesn’t find any place to invest in such cold assets. You can make a bigger margin of profit than 300% over 10 years. Imagine if he spent these 2.7 mill in bitcoin or stock market or real estate. His margin of profit would be higher. Upper middle class or millionaires should have much better plans to invest their money than to buy a Patek…

I get where the “I never sell anything, because I’m an enthusiast” is coming from, but I personally enjoy the investment section of the video (also smart putting it at the end for the aforementioned crowd). If any of you bothered to actually listen to the whole thing they aren’t hyping Daytonas or flipping, nor lamenting their recent fall. If you have the means to spend 5, 6 or even 7 figures on a watch and immediately believe the value is $0 that’s great. That’s also not the situation of 99.99% of people. They are shedding light on two things. 1) You can find great pieces that have a “safety net” should your situation change 2) Midlevel vintage of established brands can be both enjoyable and an investment even when watch values are getting stratospheric in the modern and high-end game I have personally been burned enough by some watches that I like to concentrate on where value will stay long term. I like the ability to protect my initial capital should I need the money later on or if I just fall out of love with a piece. I’ve bought and sold pretty much every luxury watch I owned with the exception of 2 that have sentimental value. I got to enjoy the pieces until I wasn’t wearing them enough or needed to reallocate some capital and made enough to pay for my honeymoon. Variety is the spice of life and money is a tool for freedom; why not try to achieve both?

A book called Tipping Points talks about how people who smoke tend to start and continue because of the emotional ties to the smells or memories of influential people in their lives. When you talk about the value of the short films you create, the logic seems to be backed up by some research.
