Funny you mention parents would love their children to stay home until 40.My parents are from southern Italy who emigrated to chicago in the 60s.I lived at home until I got married at 40; yrs old.Looking back, I can honestly say i was able to spend all that time w mother who is longer here in the physical world.

In Europe to say; Oh you put on weight is a COMPLIMENT. It means OH good I see you had a good and relax holiday or Oh I can see you are healthy.... ! If you say: Oh you last weight it means: check you health or did you had a hard time ..or so on. SO THAT IS BEHIND THE EUROPEN OH YOU PUT ON WEIGHT... means you are OK you are well
