It amazes me how knowledge is kept from even those who appear to be Godly people? Pagan religions teach that we are 3. Body, Soul and Spirit, but the Torah teaches that we are 2, "Soul(body) and Spirit." Pagans teach that the Soul is some type of invisible thing inside our bodies that can be taken away from us by a being they call the Devil (Satan, Serpent, etc.) when we sin? "Fear him who can kill the soul and body in hell" Mt.10:28. Can your body go to hell with you when you die? No, so this statement is fictional. The term "Soul" is simply a Torah word for "body" which was corrupted to support the Trinity invention. For instance the LORD God said in Lv 5:2, "If a soul touches anything unclean...(HE) hath offended; Lv 5:3, "if a soul touches anything unclean, (HE) hath trespassed; Lv 5:4, " If a soul swear (and pronounce with its lips....) "No soul shall eat blood" Lv 17:12. Here's a perfect example that soul means body, Lv 22:11, "But if the Priest buys any soul with money....." The Priest has to feed that person! I hope this knowledge helps someone.

They must resolve it this way for everything to occur within a literal 24 hour time frame however the Torah does not give such a literal time frame as evening and morning in the sense that we know it as was not created until the 4th day! Also it makes no sense at all that the Spirit could enjoy the fruit of God's labor in 6 literal 24 hour periods! When you see everything done on the 6th day you know Hashem did not mean a literal sun set, actually if you take the text literally it would be 12 hours because the text states evening (dark where 3 stars can be seen) and morning ( the time at which you awake or your surroundings become visible from the light)

It is determined "vaguely" by the lineage record told in other books in the Torah collection. The conclusion, reached and agreed upon by religious scholars, is that the earth must be approximately 6,000 years old. Therefore, based on this interpretation, and the age of Adam at the time of his death, they extrapolate the age of Adam at the time of the "Fall" (which would be a decimal figure) and approximate "1 hour" of his accumulated existence, at the time. Eve, of course, would have been perhaps 45 minutes old ... hence, the ease with which, the serpent was able to "dazzle" her with visions of grandeur. Now, before you begin searching the ground for hefty rocks ... let me just say that I recognize this as a theory offered by some ... but, not necessarily my own. After all, it is not nearly as important what I think, as it is what you think. So, if you will excuse me ... I feel the urge to gather rocks. 😉

The purpose of having the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden, was more like a object Divinely design to trigger the exercise of "Free Will". I learned in college then that children can’t understand the negative of things like “can’t” or “don’t”-instead they can better understand what to do, rather than what “not” to do, as that translates as “to do”.

Don't know why the rabbi said historians. Definitely not historians in the traditional sense of the word lol. We Orthodox Jews believe that Scripture was given with an Oral component, which was first set down in writing in the time of the Rabbis of the mishnah, roughly 2nd century CE. The two primary volumes are the Midrash and the Mishna/Talmud. The Midrash tends to focus predominantly on filling in the narrative of the Torah with extra facts, details, teachings, and parables. The Mishna and Talmud focus largely on Jewish laws and rituals, but also contains some exposition of scripture as well. This is the "historians" of which Rabbi Friedman speaks of.

For instance how did historians conclude that Adam and Eve were 9 hours old and ate the fruit one hour later? I don't know how much the Torah and the Bible differ, but in the Bible it says Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day and on the seventh day God rested and took pleasure in his works. That doesn't sound like they had already eaten the fruit. The concept that God intended mankind to fall so that we could fix the world certainly discounts the Christian viewpoint that we're incapable of that task and need God to intervene and save us. If God's plan was for us to fix the world it doesn't seem to be working.

@JS, The Torah is the first five books of what Christians call the "Old Testament". We Jews call our Bible the Tanakh. It differs from the Old Testament in the manner the books are arranged. What R' Friedman referred to in terms the 9th hour and 10th hour are explained a text called Midrash Rabbah, more specifically B'reshit Rabbah (Genesis Rabbah). It's an hermeneutic work in the Rabbinic Tradition. It would help you understand his exposition better. Also, as he said, the Torah text can be read in many different ways. This is what he did there. In fact, Chazal (our Sages of blessed memory) talked about the 70 faces of the Torah. There's more, but I hope this eases into our Bible reading tradition. The basic premise of the Torah is that humans have a free will and ability to do what is best for them. Therefore, they don't need anyone to do anything for them. This point is best explained in Ezekiel 18. Read it.

They refused to obey my laws and teachings, and they treated the Sabbath as any other day. I became angry and decided to punish them in the desert. 22But I did not. I did this to horrify them and to let them know that I, the LORD, was punishing them. 27Ezekiel, tell the people of Israel that their ancestors also rejected and insulted me 28by offering sacrifices, incense, and wine to gods on every hill and under every large tree. I was very angry, because they did these things in the land I had given them! 29I asked them where they went to worship those gods, and they answered, “At the local shrines.”+ And those places of worship are still called shrines. 30Then ask the Israelites why they are following the example of their wicked ancestors 31by worshiping idols and by sacrificing their own children as offerings. They commit these sins and still think they can ask me for a message. This is EXACTLY what it means to be G-d's Chosen People. But what people don't know is that the Israelites (Jews are the modern day descendants of the Israelite Tribe of Judah, and fhe remants of the other 11 Tribes) were the last nation to be offered to the Torah, not because G-d didn't choose the Israelites, He most certainly did, but because He wanted to give the other nations ro opptunity to accept the Torah. But every nation asked questions about what was in the Torah, which immediately disqualified them. But the Israelites, accepted first of their own free will (so it was a mutual choice), and then they asked what's in it. What would have happened had another nation accepted first? Simple, they would have become a part of the Israelites...we may be a nation unto ourselves, and therefore a distinct ethnic group, but we do accept spiritual conversion, you literally become a part of the Tribe...but this conversion is a one way door. Anyways, so being the Chosen People isn't about being favoured by G-d, so much as being chosen to be the world's priests. Jews have Cohanim, the descendants of Aharon (Moshe's brother), they are our priests, and the rest of what would have been the Tribe of Levi, are the Priest's assistants basically, and Yisraelim (the rest of the Jews) are the priests for the other nations. That doesn't mean we are the spiritual leaders for everyone else, it just means we have to set an example for other nations and people, we have to perform Tikkuun Olam (literally heal the world), something many Jews, including completely secular, non-observant Jews by birth but culturally assimilated do a lot of. Part of this is also positively ontributing to global society as a whole through contributions to science and medicine, and technology (think of how many Nobel Prizes have been won by Jews despite being 0.25% of the global population, or Jewish contributions to major technology and medical breakthroughs), to showing the world Monotheism and spreading G-ds word in many different ways, there are concepts from the Torah that show up in Eastern philosophies even if they arent monotheistic. Being the Chosen People is a burden, as much as it's a privilege.

He answered God truthfully and honestly. He hid because of nakedness, where we are to believe clothing was understood as a moral obligation and courtesy since the beginning. God appeared to Adam, who was still without sin, to inquire the proceedings. In my opinion and close read, the punishments were more like warnings God gave as the natural consequence to the man and woman. The only curse was to the snake, who knew right from wrong already and chose wrong. The rest needed to learn to appreciate life by experiencing death and pain.

The last time my husband and were trying to have a baby, it was difficult for me to accept being alone while trying to have a baby with my husband. What can my husband and I do to make my prenatal life less stressful based on the book of Genesis,?

@@robinriley213 The word rib is not the correct interpretation. The better understanding is there is a part of man ( Adam ) that he is not using and that is the feminine side. ( Eve ) God brought that out and said “ This is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh, she shall be called women because she was taken out of man”. (EV) Interesting thought and Tom Cruise was right. “ You complete me”!!

the real reason Adam and Eve was exiled from the garden of Eden was . that Adam called eve woman . think clearly about this ,the tree of good evil sits in the middle of the garden. Or some bibles will tell you in the midst of the garden .just another way of saying in the middle probably . And eve desired . the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden . Also the bible contradicts , whether adam came from dust

Why do so many complicate such a simple story. God gave them a commandment, but in his eternal wisdom, he knew they'd sin and break that commandment. So he provided them with a way back. That's it.

Having been raised in a Christian Baptist church …. I often struggled with so many stories and dogma thus I have been contemplating these questions for years. This offers some interesting points. One in particular is that instead of punishment or curse it was simply a description of their new situation ☝️

@@sharmamahabir7896Agree. There are so many holes one can poke in this “story”. Adam was tasked with caring for the garden and naming the animals, then asked god for a spouse after which go out him to a deep slumber, all in 9 hours? Also God said “it is good” when he finished creation, what “lower level” of the world would Adam’s and eve need to fix?
