I make myself bento boxes and make all the people at work jealous. The funny thing is, it's usually made with leftovers, so assembling it takes very little effort. The only real difference is that it looks more presentable in a bento instead of just piled up in a bowl.

Not all Japanese women are housewives and not all of them wake up early to fix lunchbox only for husband. They could be for themselves or kids or husband or all of them. More men do it now too. Little panda shaped rice are for young kids and not for grown men apparently. I understand that he was joking and sarcastic about racial stereotypes but the first thing he said was Japanese HOUSEWIVES make bento for their husband…. didn’t work for me.

LOVE the ending! That's exactly how it should be. I made bentos for my kids three times a week while they were in preschool. I didn't do the super-cutesy stuff except for the Weiner octopus. I loved making those things, although with my knife skills, I often made a character called Fivey, the Weiner Octopus, who had three sea snakes as friends . . . .

Not all Japanese women make bento box every day nowadays. A lot of choice for lunch now.. people simply buy lunch. Depends on person. My mum did because my secondary school didn’t provide school dinner and I didn’t like to buy sandwiches from school Kiosks every day. 😅Generally the bento box is simple - last night’s some leftovers and boiled rice and egg rolls.. Recent instagram and KZbin they make fancy bento boxes for presentation.
