A few things you can try to reduce oil consumption: 1. Change pcv valve 2. Use an engine flush 3. Use a high quality Synthetic oil 4. Do shorter oil changes 5. Use thicker oil 6. Use a combustion cleaner occasionally 7. Best option is a piston soak with Berryman's B-12

I just learned this at 166k Mike's. Ugh. My oil wasn't leaking and when I took it to mechanics to get new tires and an alignment when they test drove it my exhaust was smoking. They said they would have to check the headgaskets. They made it sound like I already needed a new engine. I replaced this myself. I've been doing my own oil change and never noticed and leakes underneath..somehow i have oil in my exhaust. Still taking it to Kia dealership for them to run an oil consumption test. Had that exact same thing on my 2011 forte. Replaced pcv valve and engine runs smoother and accelerates faster. Original pcv valve was sucking oil. Now onto valve cover gasket and then trans fluid change.

Mine was doing same thing. It started at about 80,000 miles. The running never got real bad but it was burning a quart every 2,000 miles. I thought since the PCV still clicked a little it was ok but after i bought a new one and compared you could definitely tell the difference by shaking both of them. It runs better and even increased my gas mileage.

What a great tip. I had to replace one engine in my Kia soul at 65,000 miles it was burning a quart and a half of oil in about 17 1800 MI. The replacement engine brand new has got 120 and I'm starting to see some oil consumption I'm going to get right on it and get a PCV valve tomorrow and give it a go. Sounds like that could be it. I have a 2015 Kia Sorento that was consuming oil at a ridiculous rate. Researching KZbin I found a video where the GDI oil consumption problem was eliminated by pouring a can of Liqui Moly fuel treatment into an empty gas tank and then filling the tank with gas. The creator of the video then recommended driving the vehicle for 100 miles with high RPMs but never redlining the RPMs. The high RPMs (heat) and the Liqui Moly combine to remove carbon build up on the piston oil ring which plugs the oil ring causing blowby. I altered this method because 100 miles seemed excessive. Instead of Liqui Moly, I used Berrymans Chemtool in an empty tank followed by high octane gas added to fill the tank. I then drove approximately five miles with the engine at 4000-5000 RPMs (below redline). I have very little oil consumption after this procedure. It worked. Evidently the high RPMs generate enough heat to actually burn up the carbon buildup in the piston oil ring allowing it to operate correctly again. Know that there are probably risks involved. That is why I chose to only drive about five miles instead of the recommended 100 miles. You assume any risks by choosing to follow this procedure. If you do, I hope that your results are as good as mine were.

...the problem with burning oil Is the line. Pcv line. .. The kia factory They made this way. Because they can make money on selling parts... The dealer mechanic will never tell you. .. Look at your car engine. Look at pcv line. Where is this line going. This pcv line go from valve cover to intake . The intake is sucking oil from your engine valve cover. When you drive. The oil goes to cylinder and burn with gas..thats the problem. It cost me 2000 usd to find out. In parts. What is wrong with kia engine. . You need to buy OCC oil catch can. Plus 2 ft.3/8 fuel line hose plus clamps. Disonect the pcv line from intake and conect to OCC . Plug the intake. You will never have The problem with your oil in your car. again. Buy OCC oil catch can with breather.. Now you can drive with smile.. 😁😁😁

I have a 2014 Sportage that was using a quart every 500 miles. I didn't add anything to the tank but like you I drove it for about 5 miles at high RPM'S by dropping to a lower gear on the highway. I changed the oil and it hasn't burned a drop in over 4000 miles. I had changed the pcv with no luck.....I'm happy with 160,000 on the car.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra I bought new. It has 93.000 miles now and doesn't use any oil between changes. 3000 mile oil changes, Castrol GTX. Same engine used in kia cars 2.0 L had 2 spectras, a 2005, and 2007, put over 100.000 miles on each one. No oil consumption on those either. Now have a 2021 k5 bought new. 15.000 miles, no oil consumption so far.

Exact same issue, switched to Pennzoil 10w-40 high mileage & kept topping off when it showed below 3/4. Check engine light went off for good within the month. I'm hoping this video helps with the engine eating oil

Hi World Mechanics! I have a Kia Sportage 2018 SUV. Yellow engine flashing light went on and blue smoke. Car isn't moving much but can turn on right now. Diagnostic showed 1 P001400: B (exhaust) camshaft position timing over advanced or system performance (Bank 1) 2. P2600 Not Defined! Please refer to the manual! Would changing the PVC valve help with this problem? I also purchased moly oil saver, engine flush and fuel flush. Please let me know your thoughts if possible. I would greatly appreciate it. My 2015 Kia Rio was burning through oil like crazy. Had 3 different mechanics confirm it was the piston rings. That's a BIG & expensive job! If there's no smoke and no leakage, then the underlying problem is the piston rings. Especially if your Check engine light is spitting out codes for catalytic converter. Cause I learned that oil-burning engines also burn up catalytic converters and O2 sensors. I traded it in.

Take to the dealer to see if your Kia qualifies under the engine recall that a lot of people used to get there engines replaced for free. Get your VIN number checked.

The problem is your pcv line. Look at your engine. Where this line go. This line go from your engine valve cover to intake.. When you drive. Intake is sucking oil from your valve cover... This is the problem with burning oil. Thats the problem. Your engine oil go to cylinder.. Buy OCC oil catch can. Disonect your pcv line from your intake. Conect your pvc line to OCC. Plug the intake. Dont Conect OCC to intake. You will never have The problem with your oil any more. Why kia did this. Because they can sell parts. And make Money... They dont care about customers.

New PCV didn't work for me...these kia's are junk. I'm screwed with 3 years left paying on a 2016 forte 2.0 GDI non turbo EX with 140k that burns about a quart a week give or take. If I doctor it with "Restore" it slows it down. Going to go to a thicker oil too. I've ordered some liqui moly motor oil saver on some off-chance it's the valve stem seals so it'll plump them up. I'm also going to try the CRC GDI Intake cleaner spray at some point. If I had known kia or these gdi engines had so many problems there's no way in hell I would have gotten one. My old 90s truck doesn't even use this much oil, it's absurd. The GDI engines really gunk themselves up at the valves due to no gasoline spraying over them like in a normal engine

These kia engines are low key junk. I know kia has tons of stuff out now for oil consumption so I'd get to a dealer. So they can start that oil consumption test. It may end up being your saving grace as when I was a kia tech we would soak the engine overnight after cleaning it and then change the oil and hopefully it remedy the oil consumption problems if it didn't we basically replace the block

They gotta a recall for the wastegate needing to be basically turned back into spec. There's a little 10 mm nut on your rod that goes to the wastegate that has to be backed off or tightened and voltage has to be checked at that electronic wastegate in order to know if you're within the right spec but it's a kia recall. Go to your dealer you're going to need a scan tool that can read voltage to the turbo

I've been thinking an engine swap would be fun. Try getting the biggest, not kia/ hyundai engine. Maybe do some shotty fab work😂😂 It would fix the problem of it burning through a quart to quart and half every week. Screw the thousand mile test, that would blow up my engine. Kia had me do an intake flush on my 2017 LX AWD 2.4L (which isn't a bad idea since it's fully covered for original owner) and claim all the bad metal scraps from the bores were cleaned out. I guess it helped a bit for sure, but I've always suspected the PCV valve as well. Does yours make a weird chain rattling/valve sound when your oil level gets low, going up hills and revving between 2-3k rpm?

Hell I put in a quart of oil every time I fill up with gas. It’s so funny I have a company here in Fort Worth Texas called Moritz and they have the Moritz promise which supposedly gives it a lifetime powertrain warranty but unfortunately I guess you have to have the engine blow up before they do anything. Make sure though if you do take your cars in to check your oil because if they see that you have no oil in your engine they’ll avoid your warranty with Kia, even if you have the new lifetime warranty from Kia due to the class action lawsuit that they lost because of the shitty ass engines

An oil catch can will reduce the carbon buildup those get. Has nothing to do with burning oil but the breather that reformulated to the engine guns up the intake that a oil catch can takes care of.

ALL kia's have recalls on their engines. It's a known fact. Make sure to have the KSDS installed & they HAFTA replace your engine at no cost. I hadcmine replaced & looks like it might be going back in for another soon. Follow Carl's Garage if you don't believe me

Shit I changed mine and it’s still sucking oil, it’s a seal at the oil filter I been told it’s not the pvc, I changed that and this Kia is still sucking oil down like I’m basically changing the oil monthly honestly, it’s drinking so much by month two all the oil has been completely replaced

You are right.sucking oil. The problem is the line pcv line.. Look at the engine where this line go. This line go from valve cover pcv to intake.. What is intake.intake Is sucking air for engine cylinder . The major problem with oil is very Simple. The intake is sucking oil from your valve cover When you drive... You need to buy OCC. Oil catch can. Plus 2 ft 3/8 fuel line hose. Disconect the pcv line from intake. You must plug it The intake or use cap... Conect pcv line to OCC. And you will never have The problem with your oil in your car engine again..

You should do your homework to find the real problem changing the pcv valve does not fix the oil burning problem

The problem is the line from your pcv valve.. This line go to intake. Intake is sucking oil from your engine valve cover. .oil go to cylinder and burn. You need buy OCC oil catch can. Than disconect your pcv line from your intake. Conect this line to OCC. Use plug cap for intake. Buy occ with breather.. Problem fix it.
