I heard one influencer (Hamza) say one thing that has always stayed with me - He said he had to get his mental situation in a better place before he was ever able to get his physical situation in a better place. You'll never be able to maintain a calorie deficit if you don't address the stress in your life.

At 63 I retired, listened to the lie of the golden years, took it easy, got a bit plump up to 97kg (214lbs). Lost my strength, not good for a man. Bought weights, started exercising like crazy, had to buy more weights and resistance bands. Might have to get some more soon. Dropped down to 83kg (183lbs), from a 40 to a 34 pants size. Never reached 82kg that was my aim, losing fat and turning into muscle, will get there. So at 69, 8 months ago, I started training, feeling good, last bit to go still.

Good video but just a little clarification. « calorie” deficit is indeed the way to go but you still need to eat over your resting basic metabolism. If you were to stay awake in bed all day you would still burn a significant number of calories. Then because you move around you add an activity factor multiplier. You need to eat less and get as close to your basic metabolism without going under it. Otherwise your body jumps in survival mode and even if you eat less you will become a skinny person with high percentage of body fat. The body will store more fat but will use protein strains to create its energy. Speaking with experience but also the science data behind this is pretty solid. Im kinesiologist with a university degree in nutrition.

Been trying to tell people eating 1500 calories if your maintenance is 2000 calories is not healthy. But a lot of times people under estimate by about 200-300 calories if that’s the case their at 1800 calories not bad. Try and eat your maintenance and be more active, simple.
@user-bb1qo1px7s2 ай бұрын
Nope. Starvation Mode doesnt exist for extended period of times. Just look at a Nazi camp, jews were bones and skin only. There are studies done with people starving themselves and they all became skinny as Hell. Starvation Mode is a myth that doesnt resist The Power of time.
@pedroresch99942 ай бұрын
Starvation mode is most likely not true. Y'all can read Dr. Eric Trexler's research on the topic but if that were the case, people wouldn't die of starvation all the time. Having a calorie deficit that's too low is bad, yes, for many different reasons, but starvation mode is not one of them (I believe it's mostly bad because of all the stress that it puts your body under which in turn will affect sleep and recovery and lead to more muscle loss)

I'm honestly surprised, when I saw the title I cringed and was about to just "do not recommend channel" but I gave it a listen and yeah, you are correct and this is a very good video. The let go part resonates really well as when I tried to stop eating sweet stuff I would usually come back to it as the desire to eat it would increase over time due to the resistance. But in the course of me trying a bunch of stuff, changing this, changing that, at some point I was grateful of the time I have enjoyed all those sweets, and that at that time it was beautiful and helped me get trough stuff but that it was time to let go as I no longer needed it like that it just was not the same any more. So I really understand that part, even now I fondly remember that period of my life rather than chastising myself about it, I focus on the good times I had with the understanding that it is just not what I need now. And once you really let go you just focus on other things. But it is a process, and it must be honest.

Yes, people like to project onto you when you're going through your own journey. Best way to deal with it is to not say anything about your weight loss journey to anyone that you know wouldn't react positively towards you and your goals. Even if they're family or friends and don't post about it on social media either. Keep it all to yourself and manifest your ideal outlook on your personal health and weight loss goals. After all, this is for YOU! It's ok to be selfish during your transformation. Like a crysalis into a butterfly. 🦋

I started working on some of my goals this past february. He left for a long work trip this spring and i finally had the mental space to start intermittent fasting and working out multiple times a week. It was hard to be strict with myself when we were reunited, esp because i make all the food he and the kids want. I kept at my goals but not strict and started to feel slowed and bloated and numb again. I made a new friend a month ago who is an athlete and exchanging notes with them and just being around them got my fitness fire so reignited. I'm strict to my goals now and i have never felt more personal and physical growth and i am so much happier!

I think there were so many truths spoken as a bottom line, but one key thing that I always find reductionist is the part about "being fully committed." To me "being committed" is more of a state of being, rather than a real choice. It's a consequential state. A better question is: How can we get to the state of full commitment? Why different individuals derail and not commit? I have found it's an absolute fallacy to simply conclude "if I can do it, someone else can." Heck, there's many things I see Olympic medal athletes doing that I know I simply won't be able to do how hard I try. DNA comes into play - and I have to accept that. I think there's a complex combination of habits, DNA make up, upbringing, chemical effect son brain that influence deeply how committed one can be- and I have found some ways to attack that problem but still looking for better. I have found accepting where you are and start there, eliminating habit-driven distractions (don't leave easy snacks bad for you within reach), focus on why you wan to get healthier and decompose why you can't just start today doing something-anything and take it on a day to day basis until you can start building a healthy habit. I am at a point that I can see humans do not have as much control as we think we have. A good book here is the one that came out last year in November 2023 - "Determined" by Robert M. Sapolsky" on the current findings on free will. A good one I found that combines some of that into trying solve the making new habits puzzle is "Atomic Habits." Thanks for making this video.

As someone who has been trying to lose weight for years on and off, putting on weight, losing weight... gain, loss, gain, loss. There's truth to there being ups and downs and just showing up for yourself for every workout you want to do. Even though a calorie deficit is important, we also need to listen to our bodies. Eat, but don't overeat. What you consume is important and finding a right balance for yourself is key. There's unhealthy food, but food is not evil. Go out and have fun, eat your doughnut, eat pizza but be mindful of the quantity and overall daily calorie consumption. Try to consume more whole grains, more nutritious and satiating food. Exercise but there's no need for intense workouts, especially if that's not your cup of tea. Intensity doesn't always equal burning more calories. And weight loss is never just a one-time thing. There's always chances of routing back to old habits like I did multiple times. Eating healthy and getting into fitness should become a habit. It is a lifestyle you should enjoy and be able to commit to if staying healthy is your end goal. Lastly, progress is always better than no progress.

So maybe small pears , with cream of wheat or oatmeal and then jello or pudding to go with it that together a whole meal. Alongside drinking alot of water i didn't excercise was confined to my bed because of the Pneumothorax. I went in the hospital at 165 came out the hospital at 154. My weight is around 156-157 now but the way i've kept my weight around there was just walking , i have yet to go back to the gym. I walk damn near 3-5 miles a day along with intermittent fasting. I still eat pretty well, but prior to my accident , i had been trying to figure out how to lose the fat. When it was pretty obvious that you need to be moving around, not just weight lifting. Walk for about an hour a day , and if your ambitious try walking to places that are within distance like a store or something. Try getting in the habit of just walking to places. Once i do get my strength back i want to do Indoor rock climbing , i'm more interested in getting into an activity that works my body rather than going back to the gym.
