English is the same, but people don't speak grammatically correct. If you say, "You didn't eat?" in English and the answer is yes, it means that person didn't eat. If you say, "You didn't eat?" in English, and the answer is no, it means the person did eat. It's the same as she is saying for Korean, but as most people know, when people speak in English there are a lot of grammatical errors in their speech. Another example of incorrect grammar in English speech is that many people end a sentence in a preposition which is a grammatical no-no. For example, "Where are you coming from?" Grammatically, this should be spoken as "From where are you coming?", but you rarely hear people speak this way.

As a native Spanish speaker we have the same problem as English, and I remember every time we have to take personality tests (that things that ask you "Are you the type of person that does...") we all get confused when we found a negative question, because sometimes it doesn't matter if you answer yes or not, it means the same thing. Like: "No le dijiste ¿cierto?" (u didn't tell him/her right?) and the answers could be "No, no le dije" (No, I didn't tell him/her) or "Sí, (cierto) no le dije" (Yes, that's right, I didn't tell him/her)

English comments bothered me too, but after learning english is not a problem now... It's weird bc you don't understand, try to learn spanish and you can understand portuguese and italian too ( at least I can, my first language is portuguese an I learned english and spanish and can read and understand italian without speaking the language). Well hello, a little french speaker here In fact, when I was young, I used to use "Yes" and "No" like in Korean. In many of languages, you say "No" when you want to say that something is negative and "Yes" when you want to say something positive. I mean, we don't even care if the question is positive or negative, and "Yes" and "No" where just about the answer And when I was young, I used to take the negative or positive form of the questin in count to respond. So when I was saying "No" to a positive question, that was "Yes" and that was more logical for me. Like in Korean, I guess ? Also I don't know if it's just us, french speakers, or all the people who use "Yes" and "No" like us, but often, the one who ask you a question would add "Yes you do or yes you don't" or "No you don't or no you do" if we just answer by "Yes" or "No"

Yes! Finally! In Polish it's the same case. Yes/tak is used when someone agrees with what other person said, his/her statement. And no/nie when someone disagrees. I've had so much difficulties with understanding why English is so messed up ;x Thank you for your videos. Greetings from Poland :)

This is a really good explanation on how to handle negative questions. When someone first told me about this principle I didn't understand what was so confusing, but then as I encountered negative questions in the flow of real conversations I constantly got flipped upside down. I still do. It sounds like a simple concept, but in reality it's really difficult to adjust to for English speakers. I've heard the reverse is also true for Koreans.

Pode ser por muitos motivos, o clima estar frio ou poder ter a liberdade de se mexer caso queira sem expor muito seu corpo. As roupas das k-idols geralmente são bem curtas, então acredito que seja mais pelo segundo motivo.

In English when you are young you think like that if someone says something you have to say yes or no to when they are right or wrong but eventually after you try to lie and it backfires you learn that you have to say no when someone asks "did you not do that" you have to say "no" This was a problem I faced when I was young so when I heard that you have to answer if you agreed to what the person is saying it felt pretty natural.

Em português é bem parecido! This is the exact situation I was in when I lived in Taiwan. My wife (now) girlfriend (then) had left me in the middle of Taipei. I had no idea how to get home. I didn’t know where to tell a taxi to go so I had to walk around for many hours until I found my way home. This was before cell phones. The next time I saw her, I said “Don’t you love me” & she said, “No”. In her head, she meant, “No, I do love you,” because she translated it “you don’t love me” & do she was disagreeing with what I said. I thought, “Ok, She doesn’t love me, so why stay together”. I said good bye and walked away. She followed me for a couple of months & I would avoid talking to her. Finally, she got to me & asked why I left her. After talking about it, we both learned that we could no longer answer each other just “Yes” or “No” because this is different in Asia. You can’t say it’s opposite. You have to look at whether they are agreeing with you or not. Once you learn the mind-set then it’s easier to deal with, but if you are an Asian/Western couple, it’s best to say yes, blah blah blah or no, blah blah blah. Blah blah blah being the explanation of your yes or no. Even 23 years later, I have to as if her yes/no is the Chinese or American yes/no.

Não sabia que existia tanta gente que se confundia até com português haha "Você não gosta de sorvete?" - Não (A pessoa não gosta) - Gosto (A pessoa gosta) Simplesmente não precisa usar o sim, é só utilizar o verbo da pergunta.

Na verdade essa forma é certa no português, mas normalmente não perguntamos as coisas com "não", e quando a gente pergunta usando o "não", fica confuso de responder :')
