Been Playing God of War Ragnarok and I got to this scene & I really loved the advice Kratos & Mimir gave Atreus when he asked when he would get Big Muscles like his father & I was surprised at how well done it was said by the Ghost of Sparta himself. HOWEVER Did you know theres a lot of real attributes of not only the Spartan Training but the bodybuilding work Kratos mentioned? Today lets talk about that in depth.

Totally agree with the strength comparison. I work in the steel industry, I’ve been lifting heavy shit into weird positions for years. I had an operator who had big muscles and hit the gym every day where I’m more of a wiry dude (nice word for skinny lol) We had to lift drive shafts into a weird position one day and I had my big guy do it because he’s “stronger than me” but he struggled hard and I ended up having to do it for him. That was the day I learned the difference between “worker strength” as opposed to “even weight lifting strength”

This! I was to visit my colleagues in our hometown village. Kids that worked for 10 hours a day since its a poor country. Me, living in germany, kinda athletic and strong in many ways towering at 6"4 was no match against my friend who was basically half the weight and 5"4. he beat me in every aspect of strength measure except maybe lifiting weight like we do in the gym. And even there he came close even tho he never lifted a single bar before. Bodybuilding is cool and all, makes you strong but if you wanna get "true strenght", you gotta work for it, for all of your life, basically one third of it. If you swing a hammer or lift things from a to b for a living, there will be some pure raw strength bestowed into you!
@kkcheung6170
@kkcheung6170 Жыл бұрын
the fact that he mention his strength doesn't come from his body is so true as well, he understand the gods have their strength by godhood, but doesn't equal to the mental strength to control them, meaning its relatively harder to learn "not to abuse it" (as shown by young atreus in 2018) and given the condition that Greek gods get stronger by age, working out not only to look good, but a great way to strengthen your mind at the same time, Ironically I think this translate so well, felt like a heartfelt message that if we want to be virtuous, and strong mind is necessary, and the best way to do so is simply start exercising

That's whers the peck movement thing comes from that you see some muscular dudes do. It's just flexing the chest muscles. It's like take a skinny dude and havd him flex his bicep and there will be nothing. He is fat though. Doesn't mean he ain't insanely muscular though. Calling someone fat has to do with their body fat percentage. A high body fat percentage is covering his muscles. So he might be built even more than kratosnin muscle but you can't see it. He has man boobs and massive back fat. His stomach is also too rounded. Most notably in the mead hall in asgard when sitting down you can tell by how his back looks. Fat is fat regardless of how strong someone is or isn't.

@@guitarman0365 I would debate you on saying he has a high body fat percentage, admittedly having more muscle can still make muscle definition apparent through a layer of fat, but depending on how it's distributed, someone may have a reasonable body fat percentage and still appear "fat" because the muscle mass underneath can make the layer of fat more pronounced due to size. I think he has the body comp appropriate to what you'd see on a world's strongest man contender like Eddie Hall for example.

Can attest to the idea of picking heavy things up and getting muscles. Also can attest to a sign I saw at the local Tractor Supply (that I'm heavily thinking about getting lol) about how chopping your own wood would warm you twice. Back when I was younger, not only did I do bench presses with a set my family got (my step-dad spotted me), but I also helped carry heavy bags of animal food. For my mom it was 20lb bags of dog food...up a hill to where the dog lot was for the big dogs, while for my grandpa it was heavier bags of chicken feed..round about 40-50lbs when he would go pick them up at the store and get them home. On top of that, my mom's house had a fire place and my step-dad and I chopped wood for that thing. You wanna talk about building muscles naturally? That right there will do it...and when I no longer had to do either of those and I no longer had the bench weight set...my good strong arms that used to bench 200+lbs as young boy...just went away from lack of use.

@@yig_501 I get the feeling if I visited my dad I'd feel the same lol. Just saw him for the first time in years on Thanksgiving, (we don't talk much) and found out he lives WAAAY out in the boonies of New York..way out in the country far from the cities. He lives off grid to boot, saw some pictures of his property..wouldn't be much to do but talk, read, and manual labor. He's got a wood burning stove so I'd be back to chopping wood again. He's actually invited me up anytime I feel like going..but it's a 2 day drive to where he lives from my home state, or a 2 hour flight. If I ever do go...I think I'll take the flight to be honest..on top of the drive there's gas and hotel fees to worry about. You'd think because of how he lives he wouldn't have the gut he does but he's also a long haul trucker..so he spends a LOT of time sitting in the cab, but dad is STRONG..6 foot 7 and could ragdoll me without a problem I know.

Godly Gains bruh I really gotta find ways to lift throughout the day. I hadn’t heard of this “greasing the groove” concept until now, and to be real it almost makes too much sense. My dad and his brothers grew up doing intensive farm work (hauling hay, chopping wood, etc.) and all of them are still strong as hell going into their 60s. I work a normal office job, but if I integrate ways to increase my muscles’ time under tension during the work grind I won’t look like I stare at 3 monitors all day! Great vid as always Jax!

Also in comics he goes off for a few days on constant trips in the wild to fight beasts, trolls, etc to keep strong but also to keep his anger in better control. Mainly to protect his family from repeating old habits. If he wrnt too far he felt that trip was a failure. (these trips were why atreus didn't get much time with Kratos until Faye died. It didn't mean Kratos hated his family, but loved them more than anything.

I wholeheartedly agree with Kratos. I spent my adolesence being very active- 4-6 hours in the gym every weekday (alternating focus between cardio and weights, but did some of each every weekday- maximum or near-maximum weight with maximum reps), minimum two hour run every Friday-Sunday. Ended up with a knee injury that was never treated, had to stop for a while and never really was able to get back into the swing of it between work and school. For years afterwards, despite having fallen off of training almost entirely, I was still the physically strongest person amongst my family and friends, and wasn't exactly sporting a lot of definition. Pushed a stalled 6,000lb truck a couple hundred feet up a 35 degree incline to get it out of traffic (crazy drivers out where I live). Over the years I've finally felt myself becoming noticeably weaker and having far less endurance, but Kratos gives me hope that with time and dedication, I will recover. Never give up bros. Good nutrition, rest, and consistency. Discipline.

Stop smoking weed, it's KILLING UR GAINZ. But for real, focus on some big compounds like squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press. Then for those lifts, pick a rep range (say 5 to 7). Now use a weight that you can do for 5 reps. After doing that set, take 10% off the bar and do a few more sets of however many reps you can, leaving a rep in the tank. Next workout, use the same weight, and do as many reps as you can. When you finally can get 7 reps on your first set, it's time to add 20 pounds to the bar on your next workout and start over. This is called dynamic double progression. Works for everyone from wet-behind-the-ears novices to seasoned lifters. And you can use it for various rep ranges too. 5 to 7 reps will give you a good blend of strength and muscle. Over time, you can add more isolation work, but your primary focus should always be the big lifts (and variations of them, like rdls, close-grip bench press, etc.). This will take you a LONG WAY, and you'll gain experience over time with what works for you, as everyone is built different, has different leverages and will develop different weaknesses. Good luck, brother. Keep us posted.
