Almost every time a rental comes back with damage, the customer doesn't want to take ownership of the mistake. This was an example of one of the funnier attempts to lie about what happened to the car.

To clear up confusion the orange lambo that is the subject of the video did have the undertray on it. We ran an autocross circut which saw lots of use, travel, and service those cars run exclusively in parking lots are the ones we ran without the undertrays.

Every Rental Car is a Jeep. That is why I take the large insurance on top of my own insurance covering it. Don't know how many cars I have taken back where it only had a few thousand miles, but the transmission is slipping.

Well twin turbo is a different situation. There are often exhaust modifications which prevents the bumper from fitting

Also, many times the turbos are installed towards the rear of the car, preventing the bumper from being installed.

So if you rented out a car that had the factory undertray removed by you and thusly allowing water to pull off the bumper, it would be the customers' fault. This sounds like negligence on the rental agency simply by the fact that if the undertray was there the water would not be able to enter this area causing the damage.

For goodness sake do not charge a customer for a chip on the screen or a stone mark on the bumper. These are things you cannot control and are normal road use wear and tear and you won't know when that happens. That's just part of dealing with that line of business...

I agree. The only way it could be the customers fault is if they are tailgating a truck or tailgating on a sandy, dirt, or gravel road, but you'd need dashcam installed to prove that. Everyone and their mother has chipped paint and glass eventually if they actually drive the car, its inevitable on highway driving.

I guess that’s one reason for having an under tray fitted. If the car is vulnerable because of missing parts then it is not really the clients responsibility if the car then sustains damage in these areas. Unless you advise the client beforehand of course.

What kind of autocross are you going to that has puddles big enough to rip a bumper off. I've autocrossed in the rain before, but never had one that goes though a river. If you know there is a risk to the bumper without the under tray installed why would let a car out without one?

One thing Rob, if the belly pan is removed then the bumper is weakened, that is partially your fault for not having you car properly put together, that “modification” is turning what would be a few scratches from a curb into a few thousand to fix a broken bumper.

Chef Boyardee still tells people that rental cars are the same as used, non-rentals. People rent cars to take to the track and to abuse it to the point where it can be just abused enough to be able to return it. NOBODY drives a rental the same way that they would if they owned the car for their personal use. Same thing goes for a used taxi or cop car. 1 rental mile is like 100 normal miles of use.

Your videos actualy saved me a security deposit when i've rented a van where i live: Madrid, Spain. There was small damage on the rear door that i did not see in the moment of pick up. I've learnd from your videos to make sure take picks when you pick up the car so i've made a small video actualy going around the car. That was the way to show the company the damage was there in the first place so they said yes that is true it's on the videclip so you are ok. Here is your security deposit. I work for a company that rents/sells heavy haul trucks/equipment. Customers call all the time trying to blame us for bad workmanship with the lamest excuses such as 'it just happened' When we ask them to bring the unit in so we can cover it for warrenty we rarely see the truck. Lol

You can't really buy exotic car rental insurance for when you rent in the US, if you read the terms from the policies they sell you if they do call them "insurance" and not "coverage" is usually useless. You are buying excess coverage over $15,000 or $25,000 in damage, and it doesn't cover "negligence" which is subjective and will always be claimed by the rental company when an accident happens.

I think that a small rock chip shouldn't tank some poor guys insurance for a 5000 window. You'd think you'd cover that under wear and tear, the renter can't stop every single rock

Most insurance companies have glass coverage, if someone damages the glass an attempt to repair it is made, if its not reparable it is replaced. Any customer damage is the responsibility of the customer. Just a bubble in the tire, just a bent wheel, just a door ding are all things that lower the value of an exotic car and are not factored into rental pricing models and have to be repaired.

@@superspeeders someone driving on the shoulder in the distance kicking up rocks, a dump truck blocking traffic with waves of debris falling off, broken splash guards on bigrigs kicking up every bit of debris and oncoming vehicles that launch rocks should not be the fault of the renter of the lambo. I'm not one of those idiots that tailgates every vehicle, but I drive 80+ miles M-F to see every kind of idiot on the road and it just seems a little foolish to blame the driver of the lambo for the rock, unless you had a dash cam showing when it happened and what the driver was doing. If the lambo was driving at a safe distance and away from "hazards" then you can't blame him. And if it's that big of a deal just factor that in to whatever price you charge. How often does this normally happen?

And this is why you should never, ever rent/lease an exotic. Right from the jump, you're in an adversarial position with the lessor; if anything at all goes wrong, it's going to cost you bigtime. And listen to how exhausting the entire process is: before and after photographs, ridiculous contracts putting both you and your insurance policy on the hook, and lessors who are financially incentivized to blame you if anything goes wrong. No thanks; I'll simply stick to driving my own car, renting cheapmobiles from the national chains, or ridesharing.

Insurance covers stupid... so that guy with Ferrari got paid out... even if you drive your car into standing water, still gonna get covered unless the insurance company can prove that you intended to destroy the vehicle (like the Bugatti)... When I rent a vehicle I take photos of every panel, with geotags on both before I leave their lot and when I bring it back too.

The point of all this is that the customer caused abuse, because driving under normal conditions shouldn't cause the rear bumper to fall off even with the undertray removed. He rents out used cars buying an undertray for everyone of them would cost a pretty penny.
