The pump-action shotgun in the first game had two different animations for partial reloads and full reloads. It's also interesting to note that the survivors in L4D1 also reload the semi-automatic shotgun in a way that always keeps their finger near the trigger and ready to fire.

They changed the shotguns in L4D2 so that the player doesn't have to cock the gun each time it gets emptied, this can be annoying in the first game because you never want to drop to 0 shells.

i like left 4 dead 2 more but i can see why people like the first one more. I liked how you could see your legs and, i prefer the entire style of l4d1 on how its a dark horror zombie movie kind of thing.

I think the legs removal might have to due with less rendering and, at least in my experience back when playing l4d1, sometimes got in the way when shooting downward and crouching at the same time. It was a nice immersive feature but I can see why they'd get rid of it.

Another thing in L4D1 is the shoving animation when you have 2 pistols. Sometimes, the characters can shove with their left arm while in L4D2 they can only shove with their right arm. Just another really cool detail that I wish they could've kept it in the second game.

L4D2 has the vast majority of L4D1 content in it but details like seeing your legs or other unnoticed features like animations or bots behavior is what makes L4D1 somewhat special.

the fact that L4D2 added 43 unique zombie dismemberment options alone already makes it more special IMO. And some of the things on this lists are clearly for balance, like bots running ahead in versus when versus scoring is based on distance, the audio cues giving survivors way forward intel in versus, punching allies in infected being annoying. Only a few of these points are actually downgrades.

why L4D2 is better than L4D1 * Has a lot of content (melee weapons, new zombies, 4 new fun to play characters (i.e Nick, Coach, Ellis, Rochelle), unique weapons, cool maps which are worth to play, * Has a Workshop and Tons of Custom content which can "improve" your gamplay experience * You can play L4D in it * Has a lot plugins/sourcemods which can fix/improve your gameplay (i.e survivor ragdoll, viewmodel legs, self revive/help, impaled crawl, smart ai).

While I prefer the ragdolls, there's something so satisfying and iconic about the animation. I mean, I can't imagine Ellis being thrown off of a building and sliding across the ground, slightly bouncing his legs due to the impact.

I absolutely agree with the last one, the atmosphere. When I play L4D2 maps, I can chill cause its mostly daytime and I can see clearly the surroundings, making it easy to spot the commons and special infecteds. On L4D1, it gave us the maximum chacne to feel the creeps cause its night and its harder to see the infected, specially when you are in a room and the only light you are using are your flashlight, that can make me go panic mode. However, i still love L4D2 for giving us variety.

I don't think night is very scary in left 4 dead. I prefer the creepy, abandoned left 4 dead 2 atmosphere, but I wish they didn't ruin the grit of left 4 dead 1 with the campaign ports.

@@Puppy_Puppington Having two animations of different characters connect is always a challenge in game design/animation and it was still at a time in which you wanna save performance as much as possible. There are problems. Dying from falling for example almost always ends up in being propelled away a lot, which can cause the corpse to land in areas out of reach or the corpse could get stuck awkwardly in places in which it can be reached, but you can't really revive it, without the revived one getting stuck (for example inbetween two props or a prop and wall) or instantly dying again (like the floating in water example). It also kind of balances dying close to instant death edges, like the rooftop of No Mercy - in which you can always be sure, one could be revived and don't have to hope RNGesus hates you and lets your dying team mate fall from the roof or that you accidentially shoot their corpse down yourself.

The reason ragdolls aren't in l4d2 it is stated in the dev commentary the ragdolls caused too many performance issues they slowed the game down too much. EDIT: Why you can't see your legs is because l4d2 uses viewmodels while l4d1 actually uses your world model as your first person model.

Honestly I think the stories happening at random times of day in L4D2 really helps you feel like the Green Flu is a problem that requires constant attention no matter what time of day. The survivors aren’t always going to be safe in the daytime. But i can admit that that takes away from the overall “horror” aspect of the game. Honestly though, maybe since I’m playing with friends. Outside of like Hunter and Charger jump scares the game in general isn’t really scary? Maybe that’s just me and my decade of playing talking

True, I always enjoyed and feared the tank on Left 4 Dead 1 for sticking around to finish the job after incapacitating your character. It put a stressful timer on your allies to try and kill the tank before your team was made 1 member shorter, and I miss the adrenaline rush that came with that

I like left 4 dead 2 more than 1 because of the less grating gun sounds, more content in nearly every way, more variety with item spawns, and the less unfair tanks. If I were to bring one thing from l4d1 into l4d2 it'd be the pistol design because it looks way cooler, but I can see why they changed them because from a distance they look exactly like the magnum

I feel like L4D1 expert mode is harder. Since the Tank just kill people on the ground rather than trying to downing everyone, also he was faster while burning. You had less specials, which is harder since jockey, charger and spitter are not as much of a threat as an endless cicle of smoker boomer and Hunter. There were also no melees, but there was infinite shove, which is actually weaker. Also no defibilator and no adrenaline. No chainsaw, grenade launcher and M60. You could camp corners which is pretty strong, which is why Spitters exist. But still overall would argue 1 was harder. There could be a gamemode for L4D1 champaign. I know there's mutation, but It Just isn't the same imo.

The part where bill drowns is very unrealistic on the 1st game, when someone drowns, thier corpse doesnt float right after they die/drowned, it actually stays in the water for hours/days, so props to l4d2

Как же мне нравилась перезарядка дробовика в 1 части. Либо следишь за патронами и моментально стреляешь после перезарядки, либо доводишь до 0 патронов и долго перезаряжаешь (анимация в конце дольше и ты не можешь зразу же выстрелить)

I'll probably link this video to the TLS devs, because the hanging trigger and the saferoom door lock should all be added to L4D2. We can live without the others (especially without the infected punching, that's kinda dumb in my opinion), but I feel these things are pretty important overall. I also like the music cues in versus, but that would be a too big buff for the survivors, considering they're already overpowered in versus if played properly, it would also make sneaky hunter attacks impossible if the player listens to the cue.

I do agree with some things but Left 4 Dead 2 will remain an awesome part of my childhood. I don't like how some campaigns are during the day because it takes away from the dark atmosphere. HOWEVER, you could say that "Left 4 Dead 1 taught us fear while Left 4 Dead 2 taught us to fight back." I guess that contributes to atmosphere.

Ну, вообще насчёт физики рагдолла, при падении во второй лефте создаётся такая анимация из-за того что во второй части есть дефиб, а в первой его нету, поэтому смерть в первой лефте рагдольная.

Вероятно отключили рагдолл чтобы труп выжившего всегда оставался на месте гибели (чтобы оживить), а не улетел чёрт знает куда от взрыва гранаты или чтобы заражённые труп не запинали куда подальше.

Скорее всего нашёт регдолов, из-за того что в 1 части не было дефибрилятора были регдолы, а в 2 части он есть, поэтому что-бы регдол не багался и т.д., его убрали. Но хорошо что есть такая кнопка как: "Мастерская"

L4D2 is the exact same game, except they removed big fps hogs that had little to no impact on gameplay or atmosphere, but they added way more immersive zombies and special infected. They also developed on the universe instead of rehashing it. L4D2 is objectively a way more polished game

В L4D1 разные анимации перезарядки есть только у дробовиков, а в L4D2 только у пистолетов. Плюс во второй части у охотничьей снайперки из-за бага может появиться анимация перезарядки с затвором, которая была вырезана в первой.

I believe the hanging thing can be avoided by holding jump when going off a surface, and if I had to guess they removed ragdoll physics for resurrection. Probably to avoid complications.

There's an addon for characters having ragdoll once dead, whilst kept the defib feature by keeping the model invincible and an model use for the ragdoll physics, for the lag that the stated this was a long time ago which computers were still primitive

All games have different technical requirements, but it really reminds me of a Sims 3 to 4 situation where oh the previous game was difficult to run, so instead of figuring out how to achieve the same great and appreciated design just with improved performance like all our competitors are doing, we'll just cut features instead and call it a day. This isn't nearly as bad as the Sims example, but similarly flawed thought process.

I’m 1 month late but nah the biggest mistake L4D2 has is the survivor AI or Witch AI cuz these 2 AI completely gives the survivors a massive disadvantage cuz The AI revives on spit wasting half there HP or all of it and the infected a 50% chance of a massive disadvantage cuz Witches are easy as hell to kill with tier 1 shotguns or tier 2 shotguns or if the witches are standing up they go to the worst spots possible and also take the tank spawns Thats L4D2 biggest flaw cuz all the others I think are Minior issues that don’t effect me at all or are understandable why they removed it from L4D1

I realized in l4d1 tank is the only special infected you can't see his legs or even his arms when he standing or moving,you still see his arms when attacking (lack animation attack incapacitated survivor) but not when you looking down.

Left 4 dead 1 you had infinite shoving where you will never get tired of spamming shoving at zombies. Left 4 dead 2 had Shoving cap limit to keep the game balance. The more frequently you shove a weapon, the longer your stamina shove to take refill.

4:10 you can completely negate this by holding space bar when you jump sidenote: this even works for just walking off edges, you'll obv have to jump first beforehand but you can still hold space and just hold W off an edge

In my opinion, Left 4 Dead 1 has a much scarier atmosphere than Left 4 Dead 2. It's just a shame that in Left 4 Dead 1 there aren't as many weapon choices as Left 4 Dead 2.

Я бы сказал, что для меня решающее преимущество 1 l4d над 2 в плотной и темной атмосфере, но не совсем так. Атмосфера игры была крепко связана с концепциями, заложенными в неё. Ну вы помните "кооперативное выживание" и пр. Первая часть - это идейно цельный проект, где механики связаны с дизайном, с поведением. Вторая сделана на основе первой.. но цельная ли она? БТВ, пункт с поведением аи-тиммейтов тоже весомый для меня. В первой части чувствовалось, что "нам нужно пройти". Была в этом ощущении и интрига, и мотив выживания. Во второй части просто прешься через карты и если приглушить развлечение, получаемое в процессе, то может стать неудобно от идиотии.

about the atmosphere, L4D is about a set of survivors with 0 chance for survival but defying all odds regardless. L4D2 is more the B movie feel with the whole arizona vibe to it, its bright, playful and a lot less sinister. its a deliberate choice they've done and you can still enjoy L4D's full glory with the appropriate campaigns

Most of the differences are small things that don't usually effect the gameplay at all. The bots not leading the point in versus is a good thing that's not in l4d2 because I've had a bot in l4d1 run in and die. It's not exactly something that makes them better, just makes them careless. And when it comes to mods L4D2 is going through a new era of script moding that changes AI behavior allowing them to do many things only players can do. We're able to make our own animations now. However that's only on PC and not console. And the grabbing ledges issue in 2 can be solved by simply holding the jump button. But yea that still gets annoying.

You can ragdoll in vanilla left 4 dead 2. It's very spefic but you need to slip off a ledge and grab on to it, you need to make sure zombies don't hit you and that no one helps you up. when your hp finally goes all the way down you will regain control of your character while falling off, only then your dead body will be a ragdoll .

Honestly there isn’t much in my mind that makes l4d1 better. Maybe the hunter pounce animation, the versus scoring and maybe the ragdoll. Everything else IMO is better in l4d2. Also sometimes interesting to play with only hunter boomer and smoker.

also the hunter has various animations when he’s jumping from wall to wall and can even jump at survivors LEGS first. not a lot of people know about this.

If you have a potato PC or specs, joining in the middle of the game or after it started minutes ago will take you to the You Are Dead screen as usual for like 20 secs as special infected, giving a disadvantage of time to your entire infected team. #5 or at 4:49 is a good example for it.

I do agree/disagree on some of the stuff in the video. But I believe this video should be called "Why Left 4 Dead 1 is better than Left 4 Dead 2 at details". Here's my responses to things I disagree with: 2:26 Ragdoll physics were removed to make it easier for you to use a defibrillator, I know about the mod that lets you use the defib on ragdolls, but I can still imagine that it's possible to grief, for instance, what if a player shoots the ragdoll in a pit or in an unreachable spot? They also shouldn't float in water because if the survivors can't float, why would the dead body float? 5:33 This was likely removed so it isn't as easy to grief. 7:23 Infected spawn music likely made it way too predictable for the survivors and it would make it harder for the infected to plan attacks. 7:45 The atmosphere changed deliberately. L4D1 has more of a darker atmosphere while L4D2 has a more atmosphere that encourages the survivors to be more badass. It's not to say L4D2 always has the goofy atmosphere because it can definitely be more dark.

Атмосферу первой и второй лефты можно легко объяснить. В первой лефте персонажей и вообщем ситуацию объясняют как - отчаяние, безвыходность и естественно хоррор. Вторая часть - надежда, шансы на спасения, тут тоже есть хоррор но разрабы по пытались во второй части сделать акцент на то, что у персонажей есть шансы на выживание. В первой части музыка в игре такая, по типу очень вялая и грустная, устрашающе и.т.д. Во второй части музыка такая же, но там больше рокк и музыка ассоциируется с весельем, лор игры так и даёт понять что у выживших во второй части все хорошо, они справятся, они вместе держутся! По типу того, во время как в первой мы видем полную отчаение и очень нагнетающий саунд и ситуацию, все это соопровождается пугающими саундами.

2:25 in l4d2 the defib would be useless cause the body could fall into some map holes that is not reachable for others to revive you. but i think if valve wanted to add the physics with ragdolls they prob could make it possible. also i do think if there was a worksop for l4d1 it would still be popular today i mean thats my opinion but anyway

I remember the days in L4D1 before they patched it where you could infinitely melee by using a combo. Then they added that stamina cap so you could only melee push every so often. Also L4D1 I will always love more because you can play with the bots solo and feel like it’s a complete game. L4D2 has more content and everything but it never felt like the same game I wanted. It felt goofy and more joking. I wanted the L4D1 I saw from the beta footage.

3:32 это хорошо что нельзя толкать труп в L4D2.Я конечно не проверял,прежде чем говорить что-то... Но вот ситуация к примеру: На карте "Вымерший центр:Отель",в режиме "Версус" умирает союзник, вы нашли Дефибриллятор... А зомби столкнули труп! Ну можно это было-бы исправить тем, что поднять окна...Ну допустим друга ситуация:В кампании "Смерть в воздухе" зомби удалось кого-то убить, и там есть НЕ мало мест где и самому можно упасть. И скажите мне... Как с этим должны были бороться? Я это пишу сейчас на ходу, и не могу вспомнить ещё таких "моментов"... Но я уверен они есть. Если есть какой-то способ с этим бороться, вы просто мне поясните. Ну и да... Можно было-бы выключить физику трупа в "Версусе".Но вас бы это устроило? Хотя... Можно было-бы просто сделать так, что-б особые заражённые не могли прикоснуться к трупу.Сам задал вопрос... Сам и ответил ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like the l4d2. Cuz the reload on the shotgun sucks especially cuz it's dark af. Also it is funny when you got hit by the witch ur body (ragdoll) just fly away XD Also for the versus mode. Well you know the reason why they removr the Knockback For the theme song for them i think is to balance it out especially hunter on versus mode. Cuz a cue sound is well.. you know.

I wouldn't say all of these are better in Left 4 Dead 1, and as for the atmosphere, I don't think eithe rare better, and I actually really like the different atmosphere between the two, but that clip for L4D2's is also a stretch for a specific instance while compared to a common part of L4D1

I fully respect the opinion, I really do. But, if you are playing the game on Steam, there is a modding community that have made mods (obviously). There are a few that fix these problems, like Lux's Survivor Leg Script, which allows you to see your legs in Left 4 Dead 2, and there are a few mods that allow you to ragdoll on death. I won't name all of them here, but most of the problems you are having have already been made into mods for L4D2, to enhance your experience. And it's okay if you don't like to mod your games and just like to play vanilla and vanilla alone. Just letting you know that there are fixes.

А смысл?) Первая часть легче (привет казуалы), у неё нет воркшопа, у неё кривые анимации от первого лица. Не вижу смысла играть в первую часть, когда ты можешь играть во вторую.. Хотя, если только ради ачивок.

@@brutalgod9204 интересный факт: Атмосфера частей разница по простому объяснению... Место первых компаний проходит в одной части страны (потом чутка в другой). А место вторых компаний проходит уже в другой. Именно из-за разницы между местом действия атмосферы разнятся. P.S. ну и ради разнообразия, нельзя же было просто сделать хоррор локации на манер первой части и сказать "прогресс"...

8:09 в защиту L4D2 можно сказать, что в нём есть и действительно крутые и атмосферные моменты, например, последняя глава "Мрачного Карнавала" или 2-я глава "Ужасного Ливня".

Ну по сути там только ужасный ливень и болото атмосферные, когда в 1 части каждая кампания по своему мрачная и действительно ощущается атмосфера, что зомбиапокалипсис это не весёленький тир. Плюс сама картинка там более серая и фильтры будто менее яркие

Но добавь всем кампаниям 2 части ночное время, она всё равно не будет такой же мрачной, поскольку изначально всё было сделано с бОльшим уклоном на экшн, фан и немного масштаб. И это не плохо, просто это другое. Как терминатор 1 и терминатор 2. Оба фильма легенды, но отличаются друг от друга по атмосфере.

Боже, у меня мурашки от того, что такую легендарную игру не забыли и до сих пор продолжают снимать ролики. Это меня греет и дает надежду на светлое бушующие
