Levy, your problem is not doubting yourself during the game, but after. You keep searching for evidence of you not being good enough and then you inevitably play a bad game due self doubt and then you use that as evidence to once again remind yourself for the next few days that you are not good enough. But the reality is, you’ve made incredible progress. The calculations you were able to do in the last couple games show that. You will always have bad games fueled by self doubt. What you need to learn is to move on from a game like that, instead of ruminating it over and over again. Now I know that is hard to do, so here is a suggestion. After a game like this, write all your frustrations on a piece of paper, so you can get it out of your system. Then throw it away. It may seem pointless at first, but it takes practice and it will work over time. We all believe in you, so please… JOIN US.

I would recommend "The Inner Game of Tennis" and "Winning Ugly" from a sports psychology angle if you have the time/inclination to do something not entirely chess related to work on your chess performance. Inner game to help control anxiety during play and winning ugly to guide your focus after you realize you're in a losing position. I think psychological warfare in chess is highly under-rated in it's impact at the lower end of titled level play (Obviously it's been discussed in the situations such as Magnus V Hans, Ding V Gukesh, and Kramnik V Everybody w/ a computer)

Go Levy! I've been watching your videos for a while and imho you've been growing steadily as a chess player and your analisis is sharper!

I hope this video is just farming for our support... But if it isn't, stop that. Trust the process. Consistency will bring you there. Throw yourself again and again at it. Face your problems so much and so often that they lose power over you. Keep doing that and doing the things that make you better. Add layers and layers and layers regardless of how thin. You can get there, no doubt. Levy from a year ago could have lost in the exact same way. But he didnt really wanted to be a GM. The current one is DOING it.

I have just been reading video titles and legitimately thought Levy had already become GM.

Regarding the spotlight point, most fans will love you the same no matter how you do at those tournaments. You will always be remembered as the Internet's chess teacher. We will cheer for you no matter what happened in those games.

It's because you don't trust yourself, and you should. You're great!

you are not expected to sac a bishop and a Queen to win a game....a little before the middle game (where you couldn't decide what to do with your knight), I thought you might say, I did not lose this match folks, until you didn't take the a-pawn and said, this is the beginning of the end. Take away from this game, trust your first instinct, don't overthink, and don't spend 20-plus minutes on 2 moves if it is not an absolute necessity...! Good luck in your next matches...!

Don’t degrade yourself even as a jest pls. Everytime you do well, I find a correlation of your victories and me having a good day.

Hey man! I've been a fan of your channel for a couple of years now, and ive been loving your new Road to GM series. But I think the things that are really keeping you from going that one level higher is probably a lot of self doubt, which maybe (it's just an idea, you dont actually have to do it) it could actually be a good plan to go to a therapist about this and you could really find the problem that causes this all. If you actually know the reason why it would all be a lot easier to get rid of this bad habit. Anyways, keep up the great work and i'll always root for you!

Leaving hanging pawns, or pieces, for that matter, can be used as a decoy by your opponent. So, Levy was right to be wary about capturing the a-pawn. But, Levy has good calculation skills and should have backed his calculation that capturing with Rook maintained his advantage.

"beat yourself up long enough to learn the lesson. And then move on" It's very easy to get stuck in negative thought loops. It's hard, but try to get in the habit of focusing on the positives and positively reinforcing yourself man! You have thousands of people rooting for you!

I prefer playing with people in person over playing online. One of the biggest, overlooked and under estimated elements of the game is the psychological effect of an opponents presence right across the table from you. I love that and I wish they would go back to that more then online.

Waiting for the day Levy looks back on this game and laughs. Having the ability to reflect so critically on yourself just proves you're on the right track. You got this Levy :)
