Why Liquid Lime Is NOT Better Then Pelletized & AG Lime! Liquid lime is a band aid when adjusting soil PH. If you are using calcium chloride its a waste of time. Calcium carbonate actually adjust soil Ph but after a few weeks the PH drops again. If using liquid lime please add actual lime as well!

Awesome video! I’m guilty of being late lol I just established a kill plot last weekend I didn’t take a soil sample and I couldn’t get my hands on any buck wheat. But I did spread out 1200 pounds of lime and put out some crimson clover. I wanted to put something in the ground tho before it was too late. It will have two months to grow before I plant my fall blend. Should I till the clover in and plant my brassicas or try to broadcast over the clover??

With that clover I would just disc it under and plant your fall plot.

That’s correct. It’s rare that it actually changes ph and it has to be the correct form. Calcium carbonate changes PH calcium chloride does not.

Great info, would rather fix the problem than just use a band aid. Thank's for all of your input on what appears to be a touchy subject!👍

I think Agricultural Lime/ Dolomite works the best, but I use pellitized the most. The equipment needed to spread Ag Lime is big and cumbersome. I use a 3 point pto spreader for spreading my pellitized lime. I've used the liquid stuff, but I didn't have great results.
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure. The average food plotter is going to use pelletized lime unless you can get a lime truck in to spread in bulk which would be the cheapest. Problem is where hunters are putting food plots the truck can’t access so we’re stuck using pelletized lime unles you have ways to spread ag lime. Agricultural grade liquid lime works best I was referring mainly to the junk the hunting industry makes

I understand that you are not changing the overall ph of the soil but it will change it some. If it is way off. It will get you closer and while you are working a plan that will take a long time to amend. it will allow you to get results as you wait.

That’s no joke we work our deer habitat all year long in order to have a good hunting season and the thing is we only have a little over an acre to hunt . Our motivation is watching the game cameras each week.Thanks for all the information in your videos you tell it like it is.

Just threw down some ag lime today. Thankfully for Covid I had a mask, what a mess.....will go back to pelletized in the future. But agree, any lime helps the pH of the soil.

Nice nice sounds good. Pelletized or ag just use that. Fix the problem instead of using bandaids 👌👊

I would say if you had to use liquid just use liquid fertilizer that goes straight to the plant. It’s not fixing the soil but the plant gets some of what it needs directly
@adamwiech4874

I've used both and like both for different reasons ,the liquid is a one year fix ,easy ,less time involved ,etc only thing is you do it every year ,,, the ad lime is cheap but not nice to spread and messy ,pelletized more expensive and harder to spread so each to they're own ,,,I do both.

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors I agree ,I should have said a short term fix ,but it has its place ,it's really convenient , I cannot get a lime truck to any of my plots which total about 4.5 acres so to put down 4-5 tons of pelletized lime at 3$ a 40 lb bag is really expensive which I've done over the years ,my nephew and I both used the liquid lime this year so far with great results on both our farms ,corns 5 feet tall ,and I'm planning on using g it on my brassica plots In. A week or two if it works I may continue with it ,if not I'll go back to lime but so far so good

What is a general rule when applying lime. More in depth if you needed to add 4 Tons per acre to amend soil what is the most you would put on per application. Obviously you do not add all at once for numerous reasons. Any help is greatly appreciated.
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I would look at the CEC of the soil. If it’s low say below 8 then I would do about 2 thousand to 2500 per acre twice a year. If it’s above 10 then you could do more

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoorsit’s awesome someone in your position reaches out to help . I spread 2,000 in early June and I bought a competitors brand of liquid to put down for fall plots. After watching your video I might just stick to pelletized. Thank you for the info and your time.
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors

@@jdubz18710 your welcome. Pelletized lime is the most convenient for food plotters. Ag lime last longer then pelletized but it goes more in depth. Every time you add fertilizer you drop PH because granular fertilizer has a lot of salts and such which lower ph. To offset that I always add a couple bags of lime at planting.

Brother Dave. Playing devil's advocate here. Let's just say you get quality liquid lime. If someone were starting a new plot with poor soil, how bad would it be to do both? If you know it's going to take a few years of working the soil, if someone used both liquid and pellets or ag lime to help this year and towards the future? Just curious about your thoughts under that mindframe
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
A quality lime yes. A true agricultural grade liquid lime would be ok in combination with pellet or ag lime. It’s the focus on liquid lime alone is just a quick bandaid for a few weeks after that it’s gone. In combination would be ok.
