Dozer work yesterday and lime today. Old pine forest with a 5.0 on the ph. Soil around here seems to be around that consistently with topsoil layer removed. Powdered lime is almost immediately available to the plant and raises ph quick. Pelletized lime is like a lime concentrate, it takes less per acre than bagged powdered lime but takes months to see results. I would suggest if first time liming area I would go with powdered lime and pelletized on top or shortly after. The rain is key and I’ll wait to spread just before a rain. Great looking spot .

Sounds like good work. I would also say that’s not true. It takes equal amounts of pelletized and powered that was a old thing back in the day you needed less pelletized then powered. Powered last longer in the soil then pelletized. Only difference is pelletized is easier to spread. Rain is also key and also discing into the soil for less run off and puts it at roots level

i've founded that powdered lime works extremly well its reaction time is almost instant i did an experiment i turned 1plot into 2 so the soil sample was the same all over i did half powder and half pellet and checked my PH right before planting and the powdered lime side jumped from 5.6 to 6 and the pellet side was 5.8 you should do a video show this experiment

Hey man love the videos. I’m starting two new plots roughly 1 acre each. I plan on spreading powder lime by hand possibly, about how long should I wait for the lime to affect the soil before planting? I was hoping to plant some spring or summer crops but could wait until fall if I have to lol. And can I dump the lime onto very thick grass that was just cut or should I burn that off or disc it first? Appreciate all the wisdom, keep up the good work!
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
It takes a good solid year for like to take effect. If you can disc the like in that would be best if not you can spread on top. I would get it out now and plant your spring summer crop that will help as well.

Most of the websites say plant later for my area in Ontario. I would be worried for my 2 acres it could get over grazed by fall if planted to early. Really enjoying your updates. I use a 5x8 utility trailer. Can get almost 1 ton on it at a time. Then Stick a buddy with a backpack blower off the end and blow it off the trailer as i make my rows. It's not flawless but works pretty damn good. 2 guys don't take long to shovel more on the trailer either..bag lime is GREAT if you can afford it. It's 190$ difference between bulk and bag ton here in Bradford county.

Is there a vast difference between Ag lime and regular pelletized lime?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Ones easier to spread then the other and ones cheaper. Pelletized lime was made for ease of spreading and some of it is high quality so it acts faster. But with easier spreading it cost more. Ag lime needs a special spreader to spread it but it’s cheaper. All depends on yours goals and what you have to work with

Just wanted to point out, according to BraenStone.com "One advantage of pelletized lime is that less material is required to balance the soil than traditional aglime (at a ratio difference of 1:10). The product is quite easy to distribute across the surface of the soil, and doesn’t need to be tilled into the earth." So your 3K lbs pellet is equivalent to 30K ag.
@Rcol4427
@Rcol4427 4 жыл бұрын
The 1:10 ratio for lime is not true. Lime is lime wether you are spreading pellet or AG lime and lime always works much better when its tilled in. Fact!

Fast acting lime leaches out of the soil to quick, about 4 months. You will need to add regular lime anyway.fast acting is good as long as you plan on adding regular shortly after.

@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a lot of factors that play into how soon it will react and how much it will make a difference. Lime typically takes at least 3 months to start moving numbers. If you work it in the soil and get something planted it will React faster. As long as you put it down you can plant something even with a ph of 5.2
