FREE LIVING IN MEXICO GUIDE FOR EXPATS bit.ly/3S6kyZf Merida Relocation Tours bit.ly/4031UU3
My heart aches when I'm not here! I love living in Merida, Mexico. Yucatecans Are The NICEST People, and it will surprise you!
Amy moved to Merida from Dallas talks about the Yucatecan's hospitality towards foreigners. Angel was born and raised in Tabasco but moved to Yucatan years ago and also agrees that Merida is the best place to live in Mexico.
Amy lived in Playa del Carmen before moving to Merida, and Angel also experienced other parts of Mexico. They share their perspectives on how Merida differs and why they love living here.
Together they talk about how locals feel about foreigners moving to Mexico, the gringo tax and whether or not you need to watch out, safety in Merida, getting around, finding rentals in Merida vs other parts of Mexico, the food and cultural richness of Merida, and so much more.

Such a wonderfully informative video. I really appreciated the perspective from both an expat and a native Mexican, as well as the interview being in both Spanish and English. This couple looks so genuinely happy and at peace living in Merida. This authentic interview with real advice not only sold me on Merida even more but also truly moved me. Thank you for sharing ♥️

Well, here I am in Centro, Merida, Yucatan, México all the way from ATL. I've been here for two interesting and enjoyable weeks. This is My initial visit as part of My due diligence. My retirement plan is for six months in the northern hemisphere and six months in the southern hemisphere as I follow the sunshine. I booked a room at a "budget" hotel that is making upgrades/modernization, as is true of Merida, the Yucatan and Mexico. I'm a retired Georgia farmer so a lot of the "inconveniences" are manageable. Frankly, the main reason I picked May/June to visit Centro, Merida was to experience the "HEAT" factor. I believe the daytime temperature has exceeded 100°f everyday I've been here for the past two weeks. Though it is substantial, it is manageable. I've learned to reset My inner clock. Which means; do My chores, errands and shopping in the morning, then around 12noon, find a shady spot and chill until after the sun sets. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Then is time for supper at numerous restaurants, from simple barfood/street food to highend restaurants, and socializing in Centro's numerous bench lined parks. Last weekend was La Noche Blanca, and Centro was alive and socializing was in full swing past midnight. This weekend was Election weekend and selling alcohol, even at grocery stores is prohibited. Oh, well. I'll makeup for it this week. I chose Centro, Merida because being in My early 70's I don't want the aggravation and expense of owning another motor vehicle. Besides, I prefer to walk or ride My tricycle wherever I want to visit. Centro is perfect in that regard. Moreover, Mexicans are robust folks, that enjoy socializing. They start around sunset and continue past midnight. I'll have to adjust My inner clock to acclimate to their schedule if I decide to weigh anchor in Centro Merida. Ive got another week for this visit, then I'll probably return for the rainy season. Then, again, I may just turn around and return, and begin the process of finding a rental. If You come to Centro and want to visit Playa Progreso, take the AutoProgreso bus from downtown Centro. The fare is $25mx ($1+) each way. There is no savings for purchasing a round ticket. Because if the ticket is damaged, or wet, or You lose it, you'll have to buy another ticket. I paid for a roundtrip, but when I attempted to board the bus back to Centro, I was politely informed that I had only bought a one-way ticket. Simply type "AutoProgreso" in Google Streets and it will give directions to the bus station in Centro. I wish yall happiness. "Via con dios!"

We spent a few years checking out all of the options as well. First chose the country then visited all the potential cities and my husband and I fell in love with Merida immediately. It is true that we are vulnerable coming here and not knowing the customs or language very well, and we have run into some minor problems, but mostly the people are great. Wait! Did I just hear her say she doesn't like to sweat? Girl, if that is true, Merida is not for you. This place in a word is HOT! It is a tropical climate and we are living in the heat and humidity of the jungle, and in fact the weather is a common reason people give for not making Merida or surrounding areas their home. There are many beautiful places to live in Mexico that are not nearly as hot and humid as Yucatan.

Don't know how to put this. I would be interested in learning about everyday activities, the vendors, the food and transportation. Now here comes the biggie - My lack of interest in learning spanish, street spanish or otherwise. A huge problem to the process of integration, I know. I thought of having a quality translation device, but I fear the locals might think that to be tacky, maybe even insultive. But through the repetition of using the device, would be a preferred method to pick up necessary words and phrases. Not interested in a tutor, or classes of any kind. Maybe a tutorial on the Internet and/or television. Slow going, but that's my lifestyle, so that's a plus. While it's good advice to venture out of your comfort zone, even never going in it.... but never going in it would discourage me from staying with any kind of longevity. Lake Chapala, Ajijic, were the landing spot(s) I thought of. Oh well, just my thoughts.
@MexicoRelocationGuide
@MexicoRelocationGuide Жыл бұрын
I would say if you are not interested in learning Spanish, Mexico may not be the country for you. Even though you don't have to be fluent to live comfortably, it should be of interest to you to learn to know what is being said and get by. At least as a sign of respect to the country you are living in.

@@MexicoRelocationGuide What bothers me is that the U.S. seems to bend over backwards to accommodate the Spanish language. Wife knows a woman who has been in the States for 30 years and can't, or won't, speak any English. She don't have to. Respect 'is' a two way street. I guess there isn't much reciprocity. One reason I picked Ajijic/Lake Chapala for a landing spot was for one of the larger areas in Mexico that understand/speak English, as well as the higher elevation and cooler climate year round.
@g8way2k1
@g8way2k1 2 ай бұрын
@@MaryGwenDungan Well isn't that a slap in the face. Speaks volumes. To your point, it was the reason for my comment. The U.S. does bend over backwards and it's very evident. So to delete your post is all telling. And it's high time for changes to this subject matter so the pendulum of fairness can begin to swing proportionately.
