When you think about it, it ultimately is a situation of quantity (The Old Jedi Order) vs. quality (The New Jedi Order). and considering how one was slaughtered like dogs and the other helped to defeat what is basically a Force god (Abeloth), I think it is pretty clear which one was better.

The reason that I believe that Luke's order is better is because he treated his followers as human beings. One of the things that I liked about Luke’s Jedi is that the older inductees brought with them their prior and personal skills and experience, making some of them far more effective Jedi than their abilities in Force could account for alone. Corran Horn, for instance, lacked the basic Jedi ability of telekinesis. Mara Jade was rather average or low level in her powers. However, no one can say that these two Jedi weak. Rather, their skills, intelligence and experience outside of the Order’s training made them two of Luke’s most capable Jedi.
@priestesslucy3299

Mara started out average, but when she moved in with Luke she just kept growing and growing. She's one of the big 3 masters under his tenure as Grandmaster for a reason. Weaker in the force than Kyle Katarn and Kyp Durron of course, but far above average.

I remember playing KOTOR and ranting to my friends about my conversations with Bastille, how in spite of her power she and many of the Jedi were sheltered and weak. They never had most of the foundational, developmental experiences and opportunities to learn and grow that the rest of us do and that was why so many of them had failed. Luke's biggest advantage wasn't just the power he inherited from Anikin but that all of his most important lessons weren't spoon fed to him, he had to earn them and they served him well.

One problem with the Order is that they force the Jedi not to have attachments. Even if you are of the belief that attachments can become a weakness and a path to the darkside, it can only be achieved through the individual Jedi choosing that path for themselves. It would be the difference between choosing not to do something, as opposed to being forced not to do something. E.g; Choosing not to kill someone VS being forced not to kill someone. One shows strength to make the right choice, the other shows nothing, as they were never given the chance to prove themselves. If someone never experiences these ethical dilemmas, they won’t know how to deal with them. Side note, I’m pretty sure Revan said that this was even more of a weakness. Positive emotions can turn to negative emotions. Love for someone becomes fear for their safety becomes the dark side, etc. But just as the dark side can draw strength from negative emotions, the light side can draw strength from positive emotions. The Jedi are ironically acting out of fear.

Luke also had 1st hand experience with dark side power - on the attack - especially after being belittled by Vader and Palpetine (psychological warfare, if you like) and then by Palpetines force lightning. So of course, Luke had much more prior knowledge of the dark side in order to combat it which is what Yoda DID NOT ever have. So, it's no wonder Lukes pupils became more aware of Sith antics and became much better Jedi as a result

I think it was ultimately a big strength to accept older candidates. Part of the old orders fault was creating knights whos primary filter and understanding of the universe was jedi dogma. At the least, they had a harder time adapting to the realities of the universe, and in the worst cases could decide that things should be forced to fit their understanding. Allowing all ages brought both valuable experience, and different perspectives built on lives outside the order. And as to the kids, it was similar. Yeah, they grew up "in the temple" but the temple was made up of much more varied jedi, and as maybe the masterstroke, they werent "required" to stay in, and were allowed to do their own thing, but they also had not just the formal loyalty to the order, but loyalty to their FAMILY, both by blood and not. That kind of bond carries a lot more weight than formal oaths.

He seemed to have adopted the teachings of Qui Gon Jin in having attachments and harnessing the connection and feelings for their force powers and their lightsaber. He might have also adopted some leanings of Mace Windu because Mace was Balanced in the force, knowing both light and dark and therefore able to use both powers without succumbing to the dark side. That’s how Luke was able to create a synthetic crystal and in the mandalorian used force choke. Had Luke found a natural kyber crystal it would have likely been purple as the color stood for balance in the force.

The Old Order as much as they would talk about fear being such a taboo. They themselves we're the most fearful. Preferring programmable, unquestioning robots, rather than personnel that wrestled with, understood and had the opportunity to overcome their struggles with morality. The New Order represented a truly compassionate, loving, and redemptive approach that the guardians of light would bring towards conflict. In the Old Order there was virtually no form method of redemption. It was "oh no, he/she's to old" Or "so and so has been utterly consumed by the dark side with nothing remaining". The New Order extends a hand saying "you can be different; you can be better." "There's still an opportunity for you yet, if you will choose to walk in the light".

Who was easier for Palpatine to turn to the dark side Anakin or Dooku?
@19TheFallen
@19TheFallen 9 ай бұрын
Well, it's questionable.....Whether you look at Legends or Disney Canon, Dooku had started to lose faith in the Jedi order for a while. In legends, he feared that the Sith were returning, but was brushed off every time he expressed those concerns. What turned him was Sidious presenting him with footage of his former apprentice, Qui-Gon Jinn, dying at Darth Maul's hand. Like Anakin, Sidious used his attachments and emotions to turn him. In Disney Canon, Dooku had not only lost faith, but had secretly turned before Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan even went to fight Darth Maul. Anakin, no matter how you slice it, was doomed to turn. His fears about those he loved being harmed or killed were constantly being brushed off, he was told to simply let them go and it fueled an intense feeling that he was being ignored, held back and disrespected by them. And all the while, Sidious, as Palpatine, was always there, "listening" to his concerns, giving him council, praising him and fueling the dark fire growing inside him until the moment was right. But, if I had to say anything in regards to which was easier to turn, it was probably Anakin.....Dooku had his fears and concerns, but didn't turn until he was much older, and it was a slower process. Anakin, upon receiving even the tiniest false hope that he could save the ones he loved if he turned, turned on a dime.

Actually, the thing about "no attachments" in Lukes order is, in my opinion, much closer to the buddhist an daoistic teachings (on which, i presume, the idea is based) than that of the Yodas order. "No attachments" does not mean "no relations". It's more like not being too focused on the things that are important for you. You have to strive for something, whereas in Jedi ways of Yodas order it was "obey the orders" kind of stuff. The problem is that the latter is good for those who cannot yet grasp the idea of perfecting yourself as a purpose. This "later you'll understand", though, is problem, for example, for Anakin, for whom, i guess, it resembled the slavery which he escaped. The other thing is not being able to leave the order for a time to process things. Of course, studying many ways at the same time is bad for training, but take a break is very important (let's think of it as of a gap year). Again, it's bad for kids, who were the main audience in the Temple, thus it was easier to forbade doing so for everyone. To sum up, the Republic Jedi became too rigid, not being able to use individual approach or, at least, specify it for different age groups, which led to that approach being ineffective and even harmful.

An helping those in need in general. Even their own most famously. Something those like Anakin, Dooku an Eben Qui Gon expressed SERIOUS ISSUES with. An Sith like Palpatine made point to capitalize on... when he finally destroyed them Honestly seems like Luke mostly corrected MANY of the issues especially the glaring serious ones the old Republic Jedi messed up on. Like no attachments an no personal intermarriage Jedi families. Which would made keeping a high number of Jedi peacekeepers possibly EASY or least easier for Yoda an Co back in day. Lack of great numbers at least, an perhaps some exceptionally powerful Jedi literally born into it that could been additional "Anakin" or "Mace" level an similar Jedi is large part of why the Jedi needed the GAR in the first place. An just think of what they coulda done if they'd had the numbers to field just one battalion/wing or squadron of an ALL Jedi combat unit.. like their ancient ancestors did.. such a groups could made all the difference. An Luke got it right having adult trainees too. As they CHOSE to be Jedi Lightsiders despite even opposite origins. A fact Yodas Era somehow lost. Such Jedi aren't or even CANT be corrupted. An could even cause some real issues for even some of the most fearsome Clone Wars Era foes the Jedi had in all kinds of ways with additional skills that weren't even expected.

I feel Luke’s Jedi also need a new Code, as the old Jedi Code doesn’t align with his philosophy. Luke's Jedi embrace attachments, emotion, and passion, allowing for open romance and marriage. They operate with a more nuanced, adaptable, balanced, supportive, understanding, insightful, empathetic, and healthy approach to emotions and The Force. Unlike the old Order, which maintained a rigid philosophy that suppressed or avoided natural emotions. As Luke's Order recognize that these aspects of life can be channelled constructively and actually helps Jedi to understand and control their emotions, rather than suppressing them, it strengthens their connection to the Force. My version of Luke’s Code is: In emotion, there is understanding. In knowledge, there is wisdom. In passion, there is purpose. In chaos, there is harmony. In everything, there is the Force. I feel that this Code reflects Luke’s more holistic approach to the Force. Unlike the old Order, which futilely shunned emotions and attachments, Luke’s Order allows for and embraces these elements as integral to their growth and effectiveness. They actively seek to understand the Dark Side, not to fear it, to avoid the ignorance and arrogance that led to the downfall of the old Jedi Order.

Listening to the storylines and names from the EU books brings me back. It also makes me a little sad for what could have been had Disney followed Lucas's plan for the final trilogy or they borrowed directly from the EU books. Comparing Disney Luke to EU Luke just reminds me of how Disney did him so, so wrong. So for me the EU is canon and the crap Disney put out is just poorly written fan fiction.

The reason Luke said that has several answers : 1. Luke wasn't too smart . 2. Luke was arrogant . 3. Luke knew nothing about the jedi . 4. Luke was yoda's greatest failure. 5. The legend of Luke Skywalker was overhyped .

In Legends timeline pretty much any force user in Yuuzan Vong-Legacy of Force era is far above Yoda in power. Kyp Durron,Caedus,Jaina Solo,Ben,Krayt. They are all far above Sidious by feats and scaling. Its something fans have a hard time COPING with. Kyp Durrons black hole feat and performance against an older Luke in sparring utterly embarrasses Vader. Jaina matched Kyp Durron As for Caedus,Luke didnt sat he was stronger than Vader cause thats all he was,he was compared to him cause he was his grandfather and had similar fall. Not to mention he grew expontially powerful over time,he only lost cause he was injured and his sister was given Lukes power,Caedus even said she was as strong as Luke in that moment. And he still barely lost Luke didnt become "twice" as strong as Sidious That statement was referring to how strong Anakin would become quickly after killing Obiwan. Even Dark Empire Sidious is far more than twice the power of his EP3 self. Grandmaster Luke scales comfortably in the HUNDREDS of times above peak Sidious Deathbattle made a grave mistake comparing Obi-Wan to Kyp Durron. Kyp would literally vaporize him with a gesture,Luke only compared him to Obiwan when he was untrained. He even said that Kyp turning to the darkside would be more destructive than Anakin becoming Vader Thats right,the Chosen One Anakin would get BULLIED by his granddaughter. So would Vader

I know, right? And when Jacen was flow walking to the times of ROTJ and thought that Anakin was barely trained at the time he fell. I think it speaks a lot to the training that the Older Order gave. I have no doubt that the Jedi of the older order *could* do this. But when you streamline your training, much of the unique aspects of training is lost.

The Palpatine clones were Palpatine at his full potential. The guy was obsessed with leaving forever. And heavy use of the Darkside corrupts the body, preventing healing, and without any knowledge of ancient Sith rituals, would’ve excellerated the aging process. But, with the steady supply of clones and the prospect of gaining the Solo children to transfer his essence into, he no longer cared about that limitation. Anakin and his twin children would’ve been at least twice as powerful as the Palpatine clones if they were to ever go on to reach their full potential, which is increased with your knowledge, experience, use of and when you push yourself to your limits. Lucas’ power scaling placed Luke as achieving near the full potential of the Chosen One, which was the same as Anakin and Leia’s potential. Only falling short of that by 5% due to the loss of his hand. Just as Anakin’s potential connection to the Force was cut in half due to the loss of his limbs. Legends Luke how ever was limited below that since most of his development happened before Lucas came up with the idea that the Skywalkers had the highest Force potential in history by at least a factor of two. Legends explained this, I think, as Luke having had a late start and had to figure everything beyond the bare basics on his own. That Luke wouldn’t learn that for the Skywalkers, there basically were no comparative limits until he was near the age of retirement. Otherwise, by Lucas’ power scaling, Luke would’ve been very near as powerful as Abeloth (95%), as opposed to only being 1/12 of that.

Although I don't have a much of a problem with Luke's character in episodes 7, 8 and 9, I also like how Luke's character was portrayed in legends. I really wish the makers of Star Wars just made a story line and stuck with it till the end, instead of having both legend story lines and canon story lines.

In current lore Luke is a joke. No offense. Yoda trained every single notable Jedi we know, not to mention Anakin (the chosen one) and Luke himself. So flat out Luke thinking that is laughable. Legends Luke however was damn near a force God. Battling Darth Kryat, The Vong, A reborn Palpatine, etc.

The truly laughable part is that Ben Solo's training as a padawan wasn't even complete, and he still managed to murk Luke's entire school. And meanwhile, all of the Luke fanboys are actually trying to convince ppl that his Jedi Order had more powerful/talented members simply because they prefer his philosophy to Yoda's. It's like their brain is completely devoid of active cells.
