I like how you don't try to be anything you aren't. Just a chill dude talking about how he spends his day. Nothing super exciting but it's all really interesting because it is all stuff most people relate to. The hair cut, the impromptu salsa lessons, the guitar shopping, etc. I hope you can make your way to Manizales sometime soon. I've heard great things about that city.

I've had a similar experience with a Mexican woman who is now my really good friend. The same day I met her, she invited me to go hiking with her and s small group. Maybe there's a general shared hospitality cultural in Central and South America :)

The point you made at the end is a great tip for shy people *not necessarily introverts): make your default answer yes instead of no. Want to go out for lunch = YES Would you like to go on a tour of my city = YES Tonight = YES Want to learn to dance right now = YES It's too easy to say NO and spend the rest of your life in your room not meeting new people. All you have to say is NO. So always say YES instead. :)

amañado o estar amañado it's a expression of the "colombian slang" , to refer to being happy and comfortable, , you will learn others like "mono" o "mona" is blonde, "chimba" is something very very good and fine, "tinto" is black cofee , "parcero" is buddy , etc

Hello Marshall, I enjoy your videos a lot. Colombia and especially Medellín are in my future plans, so the way you are doing these videos is very informative. Regarding the locals, I would like to ask you about their friendliness and readiness to make plans and hang out together...when they do offer you to go out, to show you around, do you think they mean it? Like they follow up with the plans or it´s just being polite and friendly the colombian way and you never hang out? I don´t mean to say in a negative way, that they would be false nor anything (eso ni me atrevo a decir), but for example in Spain I met with people being friendly, saying stuff like "let´s go for drinks sometimes" and then, of course, nothing happened :D Maybe you could do a video on the nature of Colombians, as they are simply known for being very friendly and hositable, it would be an interesting one ;)
@Marshall.Powell7 жыл бұрын
i understand what you mean. the reality is it is a little bit of both. colombians can be the flakiest people ive ever experienced, and ive gotten used to plans meaning very little. however, im also not surprised when someone follows up the day of a planned event with a confirmation text and the plans come to fruition. i think when it comes to group events, the chances of plans actually happening are pretty high. when it comes to dating, the opposite is true haha.

you are right, this vid was all over the place but it was good - people are looking out for you and including you. They seem so genuine, too. Hey, a question - the movie was in English but with spanish subtitles - do you think that is common there?

that movie theater offers all of their movies in english on tuesday, and i would bet that all of those have spanish subs or else they would lose a ton of business. i rarely meet people who speak english here

I bet you are right! It's one thing to try to strengthen listening skills through passive listening, but quite another to pay for a movie that you can't fully appreciate because your head is full of blanks. I wouldn't do it. Oh, new question: cuanto cuesta una pelicula?

I got a few questions though - I am going to south America in april since my military service ends by then. Is it safe as a gringo (Blonde hair, blue eyes, 185cm tall) in Colombia? I mean sure, common sense stuff like not showing off and such things is normal, but I just wanted to hear it from you :-) secondly, I wonder whether you prefer hostels over airbnb's? Ricky Rios in Colombia tipping is weird
@francisconovoa35547 жыл бұрын
Ricky Rios I understand your point, but you are looking it from the American culture side, in this case giving the man a tip it would have been rude and disrespectful, in my country Colombia if someone do something like that is to show you they appreciate you and offering even a tip will make the person very uncomfortable.
