I just feel this is completely a new movie to indian cinema ..there have never been any indian cinema that js taken like an anime or cartoon especially in Malayalam ....this movie breaks down the commonly held cinema making ....in Malayalam mostly it is common that if theres a fight it should be mass with mass bgms and also fast paced ...here director completely breaks that common making and makes a very unique movie which is beautifully crafted....this movie can be shown for the best cinematography in whole indian industry.... every actors have done their roles really well ...Mohanlal at the age of 63 ready to do such a role is something to be appreciated especially his stunts .... villian in the movie is funny as well as dangerous just like anime villians ...this movie is exactly like a anime feel and in my opinion this is one of the best uniquely crafted movie 💎❤️

It's true that some movies don't receive the recognition they deserve until years later. It takes time for a movie's impact and influence to be fully appreciated. like "Troy," "Gladiator”,"Braveheart," there are undoubtedly films that will stand the test of time and be recognized for their importance in the future. It's a timeless masterpiece that will continue to be appreciated for years to come.

Vaaliban was mid for me. It had certain great philosophical ideas which only ardent cinephiles would ponder over. It lacked the emotional connect with the audience. Lalettan in great form and was solid in performance. But it is underappreciated only because of this movie's treatment and hollow plot. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച നടനെ കിട്ടിയിട്ട്, ഒന്നുകില്‍ മുഴുവന്‍ art house format like NPNM അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ commercial with performance scope എന്ന line പിടിക്കാതെ sphagetti western, comic aspects philosophy എല്ലാം കൂടി blend ചെയ്തത് കുറച്ച് അതിര് കടന്ന പരീക്ഷണമായിപ്പോയി. BTW ഇതിന് fans show അനുവദിച്ചവരെയാണ് ആദ്യം പറയേണ്ടന്ത്. രണ്ടാമത് LJP യുടെ over confidence ഉം.Jeethu Joseph നേര് promotion ടൈമില്‍ വ്യക്തമായ ധാരണ സിനിമയെ കുറിച്ച് പ്രേക്ഷകരില്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതായിരുന്നു ആ സിനിമയുടെ വിജയം. വാലിബന്‍ ടീം ലാലേട്ടന്‍റെ stardom കണ്ട് മതിമറന്നു proper communication & marketing നടത്താതും ഒരു വലിയ പ്രശ്നമായിരുന്നു

ഞാന്‍ വളരെയേറെ enjoy ചെയ്ത പടം ആണ്‌ vaaliban.. ആകെ എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയ ഒരു പോരായ്മ valibaneyum അയാളുടെ നാടിനെയും തമ്മില്‍ connect ചെയ്യിക്കുന്ന കുറച്ച് അധികം elements first halfല്‍ ആവാം ആയിരുന്നു. പെട്ടന്നുള്ള ഒരു തിരക്ക് പിടിച്ച entry ആയിപ്പോയി അയാളുടെ നാടും Portuguese ഭരണവും അടിമകള്‍ എല്ലാം പെട്ടന്ന് എവിടുന്നോ വന്നപോലെ..അതിൽ മാത്രം ഞാന്‍ 100% അതൃപ്തന്‍ ആണ്‌.

Thank you for your thoughtful analysis (and for providing English subtitles!). Subscribed :) I too was (mildly) disappointed with MV. Admittedly I went in after the barrage of negative reviews which lowered my expectations so I was surprised in hindsight at the level of criticism levied at this film. As a non-Indian many of the Indian references were lost on me. However I can apply that same comment to all of the LJP films I have seen . I have loved all his films with the exception of Double Barrel (👎🏽…not getting into here) & Nayakan (not seen). Ee.Ma.Yau. And Angamaly Diaries are without reservation two of the most amazing films I have seen within the past 20 years. That said, I agree that MV is not a great film but “merely” a good one with moments of brilliance. You perceptively discerned the two factors that kept this from being great: pacing and narrative structure. Thank you for that articulate analysis. However I wonder if there wasn’t a resentful element of Schadenfreude heightening the criticism…of people annoyed by the incessant (yet in my opinion, justified) praise heaped on LJP films one after another. Of course this is an external aspect to the film and one that is admittedly very subjective (and unknowable). The only other aspect of this movie that I felt fell short is in its ending. Up to this point, I thought LJP had a particular talent for creating amazing memorable endings. Churuli was a somewhat uneven movie that lurched between wonderful moments…however that sublime ending stuck with me for days, recasting my opinion of the film. Here, MV had an odd slapped on ending with dodgy CGI. It felt neither well conceived nor memorable. That said, I still very much enjoyed MV and look forward to revisiting it again. Sorry for such a long comment! Thank you again…look forward to your other videos

I watched this movie with low expectations but at the end i was very happy with it. It has some amazing shots, great fights ,brilliant cinematography. Had it emphasized a bit more on its philosophy ,it would have been a masterpiece rather it seems like the movie gave spotlight to the technical aspects. Totally agree. The movie failed at story/script level. There was quite of few questionable character motivations. Quite of few contrivances and conveniences. The dynamics between Vaaliban, Aashan and the younger brother wasn't fleshed out from the onset of the story. There was just a diaglogue between Aashan and Vaaliban thrown in before the final act like an afterthough to address that. Aslo, there was a lack of closeups during character moments. During dialogues, we weren't shown the face of some of the characters who were speaking.

Slow motion വളരെ അധികം ഓവർ ആണ് പല sequence ലും. Back ground score very mediocre. One time watchable aayi thonni. Bcz of so much time consuming on most of scenes. It makes the story little bit backward. Also the climax was unexpected, it's a positive but the father character looks like a hilarious crap. Otherwise an okay movie. Lalettan always delivered the maximum effort what the character needs.

It took me 3 days to complete the movie....cant watch 1 hr of movie in a single stretch....just bcoz of the lag...there are so many things i liked about this movies but still the complete movie didn't work for me... I believe when a movie is released to a mass audience, the majority audience should understand or get connected to the movie. If the director cant do that then it will surely become a flop. As LJP said "Its not everyone's cup of tea", it is not everyone's cup of tea so dont expect it will become a mass hit. Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam was first released at the film festival (IFFK), ppl took the movie after watching at IFFK and then theatrical release happend. This movie should also have followed the same path -peace

Actully I liked the movie, it could’ve been made better with editing. Most of the shots were wide. Bit more Close up shots could’ve engaged the audience more. Also mallu audience is not ready for these kind of movies yet. It should be slowly introduced in time. I felt like its similar to Odiyan in some sense. Hope to see more of these movies in the future.

I think you have broken down the movie quite well. Great job My addtional thoughts would be: there is some lacking in establishing valiban as a drunk unstoppable warrior. This could have been easily established in fight sequences, or a origin (of name) montage. Even while talking to ashaan if tht scene all were drunk it would have connect better is what i think There is a serious issue with how the movie flows. The movie jumps to an already captured malai kotai. If the capture was shown and its brutality then the showdown, plan to recapture or any sequence there of could have been better executed. The recapture seemed like victory between chaos. Poisoning and recovery was lazy. The song was not required. Doubt and emotional turmoil in the final minutes leading to the death of the love birds could have been better handled or atleast valiban learning about the instigation doubt could have further deepened his turmoil and then leading to final enlightenment
