God bless you.. my son and daughter are millennials but they're pretty mature even if it took my son a while to grow up... They are the type of more materialistic millennial even though I had the means to spoil them but I did not want them spoiled nor did I.. my son-in-law is an older millennial who is 41 and very mature and a good man but he's very materialistic.. my daughter-in-law is caught between the millennial and generation Z because she was born in 1995 and she was and still is extremely spoiled.. her mom says she's emotionally immature but she's almost 26 and she's really not going to mature anymore than she already is. she has said the most disrespectful and hateful things to me and if I say anything back to her at all, she's on the phone with her mom and her whole darn family.. I'm the bad person.. I don't have anything to do with my kids much because they're married and unlike other people who see their kids at least once a month, I don't see my kids but maybe three times a year.. their dad lives in Wyoming and he had nothing to do with them growing up after we divorced when they were four and seven except on birthdays and Christmas and they see and talk to him like he's the man.. I had a law career and made good money but I am not and nor was I wealthy. He's pretty wealthy after he got married because his wife paid the bill so he can finish his bachelor's and master's degree so he's a physician's assistant.. the kids just think he is the man.. I know he regrets things that he didn't do when the kids were younger and when he was still paying child support by not seeing them enough but they're a different bunch. My son and daughter aren't that super easily offended time but they just are very selfish and selfish to the point where when I was diagnosed with lupus, they didn't even want to be bothered with me at all.. after I got out of the hospital with kidney failure and septicemia, it was a nightmare. My parents died when I was in my late 30s and my mom when I was 41 and my brother committed suicide when I was 32. Sadly I don't have my family.. it's just really sad because I grew up with a really really close family and we saw each other all the time.. my dad and I were close and he was over at my house practically every day. It wasn't like that when I was married because I lived at the state but I just can't believe the difference. My daughter is a social worker at the VA hospital and I was reading yesterday how they're planning to close down that facility.. she's been working there for a little over 2 years and I don't know what she's going to do if she loses her job there because she'll get another job easily somewhere else but doubtful with that kind of paying benefits for sure..(in some way she does need to be put in her place.. my daughter-in-law is the super spoiled one and one with the nasty mouth who says horrible things to people but can't take it back.

Ever since, in the 1970’s, in San Francisco, they spoke of “hate crime” when referring to “gay bashing” I thought “isn’t that just assault and battery?” Only murder had gradations based on motive. Now if you would apply those rules, hate crimes could be “crimes of passion.” I was just a teen but I was concerned even then. Turned out gay bashing wasn’t mostly done by white suburban kids but Latino and black gangs who drove to the Castro and beat up and robbed gay men leaving bathhouses.

That's why you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theater, even though it's "just speech." Beyond that though, the case is made in the video that it's a counterproductive behavior anyway. Christian Bale would never be cancelled. He's too lucrative. The no-name actor or key grip or whomever that expresses support for Bale is the one who's likely to actually be blacklisted. What this guy gets wrong is thinking that you can have a state which has a monopoly on several services, from defense, policing to much of banking, healthcare etc. and not always end up, given enough time, to the very same situation of freedom going extinct. Authoritarianism and tyrannical rule is not the exception, it's the rule, the very nature of government. All we've been able to do is keep it at bay for certain periods of time, and even that at great financial cost. Authoritarianism is cyclical. Keeping a government is like keeping a dog which bit your hand on more than one occasion. And if keeping wolves away is what you aim for, keeping a bigger wolf in with the sheep to scare the other wolves away isn't a solution, it's always only a matter of time before the wolf gets hungry.

The old Fable of the scorpion and the frog comes to mind here. Trusting the government to police itself is inherently a fool's mission. The nature of government is to expand. The people who go into government are normally well intentioned, but this actually creates a higher danger because they believe they know what is best for the population at Large. The larger the state, and the larger the apparatus controlling the state, the more you will see the crises. They believe that we are not able to tell what is best for us. Thus they are inherently dispose to removing our rights. The second article of our Bill of Rights is honestly the canary in the coal mine. The government knows very well that people who have weapons can resist. The thus it has always been one of the first things you will see eroded. If you look at the district square these attacks on the other rights are happening, the great majority of them are primarily disarmed. Countries like Great Britain where even a knife is now a registered weapon have already began policing what is called by Orwell thought crime... Or in present police logs non crime events. Events where an actual crime was not committed, but someone might have been thinking about it. It is amusing that only a decade ago we were aware of the danger of this. I think of the film minority report. Tom Cruise actually funded that film to discuss over policing. At this point he is not physically or mentally able to identify a problem with over-policing... So long as the police are doing the right thing. The idea that we cannot permit Free speech among certain sets of people because their ideas are hurtful to the population at Large... Well the last time we did this it devolved into the Red scare. People being rendered incapable of working or even being in prison for the crime of possibly thinking the government was incorrect. At that time the government overstepped and the people responded. Eventually forcing them to recant from their activities. The same is no longer the case, as governments around the world take actions which are obviously a danger... But the press who decades ago would have led the uprising against them now speak of how these actions are important to our democracy. I'm well aware that eventually my habit of monologuing on every blog site that I can find will render me incapable of having a job. I have no intention of stopping because it's for my safety. When it starts happening I will be well aware that it is time for me to leave. And it is the reason why I keep a residency Visa in a foreign country. I have no intention of winding up as happened so many times before. A historian can see the clouds on the horizon. But is extraordinarily hard to see the fire under the clouds until it gets closer. Millennials were born between 1981-1996. The world uses stereotypes and speaks in generalities because that’s how the mind works. It categorizes and assigns these labels as a shortcut. Most people realize that terms like this mean “in general this group has these characteristics and we know not all of this group has these traits”. And most people are wrong. For example, Baby boomers in the late 60s were considered to be rebellious rude ungrateful gits, but it’s estimated that less than 25% of that generation held these traits. Then like now, it’s the most vocal that determine what others outside that group ascribe as their general traits. It’s rarely the best traits that are used in these stereotypes and it’s unfair, but it happens to all generations. My parents were from the “silent generation”. They were said be the ones that kept their head down and worked hard and didn’t stick up for themselves when treated unfairly. I’m a Gen X. We are either forgotten, mislabeled by millennials as boomers while the boomers used to call us slackers. Elon Musk is the most famous Gen X right now. Most of the popular tools and toys on the internet were developed by “slacker” Gen X. These labels are like nicknames your older brothers and sisters give you, partly to kid you and partly to remind you of your weaknesses that you have taken pride in. They are used both ways and sometimes in the same breath. So don’t sweat it. Later, you will wear it like a badge and label your kids with one other own and they will be irritated with you for it. And you will smile a bit when they aren’t looking and feel a bit closer to them for that feeling.

Millennials were the first generation with “helicopter parents”. They were protected from any possible physical danger(even skinned knees or a splinter), emotional pain or feelings they didn’t enjoy. They were all given trophies because losing would hurt their feelings. This prevented any personal growth or any real understanding of the real world. Once they left home and went to college the university became their new parents. Professors continued to vomit in their little bird mouths the same philosophy their parents had taught them that all that matters is their feelings. Since they never mentally aged they accepted any stupid theory or propaganda they heard that said their feelings are always right. We grew up with parent that were often racist or homophobic and placed those ideas in to our little, forming personalities. Some of us had to come to terms with having those ideas ourselves. Sorry, but this reads like pure whataboutism. We can't speak usefully about any generation if we're not permitted to acknowledge statistical facts about them for fear of "generalizing." It's just a fact. There is an extremely significant statistical correlation between being under 30 years old and believing that people should not have the right to say things that are deemed problematic by the hot new critical theory of the moment. That's not a value judgment, it's just a fact. So if we're trying to speak productively about this issue - the accelerating decline of the value of free speech - we can't be restricted by uneasiness about generalizations. The issue in question is precisely that free speech as a value is in decline. That is borne out by the fact that each successive generation has been more opposed to it. So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the current trend and project that in a few decades, we're gonna be royally screwed as a democratic society. We need to be able to speak candidly about that trajectory and the present trend that informs it. How can we do that if we're unable to acknowledge the fact that younger generations value free speech less than all preceding generations, because we're nitpicking about exceptions to the rule? We're talking about a trend, not some universal essential trait of all people in a given age range. It's implicit that there are variations. The point is not the universality of the phenomenon, the point is the increasing rate of the phenomenon. A rate of 100% would certainly be more alarming, but a rate of 60% is still relevant when preceding generations had much lower rates of the phenomenon in question. That kind of statistical relationship is sufficient to ask a question like "why do millennials hate free speech?" in the same way millennials love to generalize about baby boomers. There's truth in some of those stereotypes too, but by and large those stereotypes are not observations of general trends that usefully inform a public debate. They're just part of the usual discourse of intergenerational mockery. Conversely, the bizarre political and social views of westerners under the age of 30 are of enormous consequence for every level and facet of the society in which they live. So even if we decided the boomer mockery is unfair, the mere acknowledgement that millennials are vastly more authoritarian than their parents would still be fair. But I'm of the mind that all of it is fair game. Boomers really do have some funny quirks, irrespective of how many exceptions there may be.

In my observations, all the best intentioned movements become corrupted with power and affluence. And the cycle renews again. “Moral high-ground” is the heroine of the digital age. And as with all addictive substances, the distribution of it becomes heavily controlled by government and/or materially powerful entities. @@fredhubbard7210 it's not me that's drawn these lines. There's the geographic definition of Europe and there's also political/cultural groupings within Europe (which are a lot more fluid). I was merely picking up on a comment made by the host of this discussion. It's a small point but it if people constantly hear terms like "England", "United Kingdom", "EU", "Europe", "The West"... being incorrectly used, they may start to adopt these into their own world view. That's when nationalism, xenophobia and "them and us" stereotypes quickly creep into our society. Finally, I really don't want to get into an argument. I'm not sure why you have taken my original comment as being contraversial. For what it's worth, I disagree with many of the points covered in the video but there are also views that I found myself agreeing with. It's given me a genuine insight into a different perspective from my own beliefs. I am open to challenging my own biases and political positions which is why I watched this video. I'm just bored shitless of entrenched, aggressive and confrontational exchanges within the comments sections of KZbin.
