I just want to leave a note here as I've been seeing some comments about it: Please do NOT hate Aphmau for no longer doing roleplays. Aphmau helped lead the genre and blow it up as much as it did in the first place, and has their own right to change or pivot their content to whatever they'd like. I once felt trapped doing certain content because of the fear i had in how my audience would react if I tried to change things up for the sake of my own health / happiness. And i would never wish that upon another content creator. Lets be happy with what they gave us, and that it happened in the first place 😊 thank you again everyone!

This was a very well thought out and informative video! Bravo Sabre. I do agree that the term Roleplay is very VERY outdated but I believe there are other factors that also conclude the fall of the Minecraft Roleplay Community. As someone who has been in the space for a while it comes down to also being the audience grows up and moves away from the content, content on KZbin has evolved into more singularity type videos instead of episodic videos, unfortunate drama in the community from time, the #1 RP creator back in the day Aphmau leaving RP content for something else and the audience demanding quantity vs quality. I'm sure there are other factors that I can't currently think of but I do miss that feeling that spark of the community enjoying so many stories that brought everyone together.

I’m glad someone put it into words. For many Minecraft roleplay creators, we have felt like we have been failing trying to chase that high that we got back when the genre was at its peak. Watching the genre decrease in viewership while the quality and passion in these videos increased felt frustrating. We all had so much love for our work and to watch the natural decline wasn’t easy. I do hope that there is a renaissance with a new Minecraft roleplay/mctv generation. I believe people will always love hearing stories and there are always people who love storytelling and expression through these kinds of creative outlets. I have so much hope for this community; it’s so special and everyone involved is so hardworking and creative. I’m curious how much of a difference the algorithm has on the community now. From what I’ve seen, there are people on tiktok rediscovering Roleplays again and seem to miss them. At least within the last couple of years. I suppose we just have to see. But most importantly, let’s work together as a community and support one another. Community is what holds us together and makes things less lonely. Here’s to a new era. Thank you for this video Sabre 🧡

Super informative video Sabre! It’s sad to see what Minecraft RPs have come too but in reality the community of creators as a whole we caused this, and only we can fix it. I feel like the biggest issue in MCRP was the competition, even people working together everyone wanted to be the biggest and the best, constantly one-upping each other and making the same saturated storylines. If a group of creators only worked together to help each other, promote each other and appear in each others original stories there’s a possibility the audience for this content could be revived with new life, due to more original content and a broad range of options rather than 29 school rps and 36 FNAF rps. Just like movies there are millions of possibilities for stories to tell and I believe there is an audience for storytelling still, it just has to be reached.
@FavreMySabre Жыл бұрын
Completely agreed dude! The over-saturation of the "safe" stories could have definitely contributed into where we are now, the fear of creating a completely unique story is definitely real, its always easy to make stories based off of what people already know so the barrier of entry is lower to be introduced, but the reward for new and unique stories is the reason this whole genre began in the first place. Going back to this could help immensely. I really hope you've been doing well lately Ritchie! 🙌

I'd like to specifically comment on your idea of mass cooperation between the creators, instead of the competition seen in the past. It is certainly a worthwhile idea and one that I personally subscribe to. The thing is, in my opinion, is that it will take a lot of time and effort. I don't just mean logistically, mentally too. Each individual creator has to break out of the subconscious mindset of Darwinism or "survival of the fittest", which we have programmed with since childhood. It's how modern business works. So I really look forward to the progress you and others can make as content creators and as individuals within this community.

When I found dream smp it didn't seem like they cared about any competition and was doing what they were cause they themself enjoyed it. Sam's thing with Empires smp with the portions they do. Y’know what really makes me sad, it’s that Aphmau/Jess’s content was so good. The rp’s/tv’s were amazing and then COVID happened. Because if covid they most likely couldn’t reach their animation studios they would use to make mcrp’s or with the new term mctv’s. (Of course I do not know what actually happened, but it’s a very likely scenario. Considering that most of their mctv’s stopped dead in their tracks during the pandemic). Now they have a new fan base, changing up their content know could kill their channel. Because it wouldn’t really be pushed forward by the algorithm because it’s a change too their “new normal” content. They very well could’ve lost interest too, and I’d be fine with that. But if the covid scenario is correct then it’s just so despressing.

Completely agreed that MCRP should be referred to as MCTV the quality story and passion have all gone up and MCTV feels like a amazing way to show this! And honestly i wouldn't be surprised in a resurgence of this form of content considering that a lot of smps either have some form of roleplay or lore either partly or fully, however given its smps perhaps a branch of MCTV should be used to refer to it, either way i hope this community can spread the word of this and make it a bit mainstream (and knowing this community i wouldn't be surprised if it happened you all are amazing!) I would have to disagree with you on the SMP part, I don't think it will cause a resurgence of roleplays... I think they are going to replace it. It is simply better for the creators and the algorithm. It seems like streamers are the next big thing, so that is where MCTV will have to go if they want to stay relevant.
@galactictulip2021 Жыл бұрын
@@moviemagic1509 i wouldn't say they are the "next big thing" given that they already had their spotlight during the pandemic they are already that next big thing, and honestly yeah your right it does seem that SMPs might replace MCTV and MCTV might have to go towards streaming to stay alive or regain its audience, but i honestly think there's still hope, SMPs are more or less most of the time improv and since their live it doesn't show or require a lot of the editing or animating things that normal MCTVS have and that does leave a bit of a hole in which perhaps MCTV can fill in that hole, of course there are ways to do stuff like that live as some creators are doing such as Quackity in his old lore streams or QSMP but that doesn't mean its the same vibe that MCTV brings, what I'm trying to say is basically there can be a harmony between these things SMPs being based on improv with major story points to be hit, a way that the audience can experience it in live time and is similar to how most old MCRPs would be done, MCTV on the other hand can be the more fleshed out or story driven side of the community, it can be like the animated tv show side similar to those like Gravity falls, Owl House etc. Both of these can be coming from the experiences of the past and making new ones for the future which is honestly one of the things i love from this community taking things from the past and seeing what could be improved such as quality, story telling etc. Of course you dont have to agree with me, i just thought i should state and clarify my opinion a bit no hard feelings at all! Honestly you brought up a point i didnt think of and i really appreciate more perspectives on it

I remember watching some of your first Steve saga videos back when I was younger, at one point I even watched them with my aunt, you probably aren’t going to read this but don’t get pressured into uploading, take your time and even breaks if you need it. To be honest I haven’t been watching your videos lately but I still check your channel every once in awhile. Love you bro, and thank you for all the happiness you’ve given me and my family ❤

This video definitely shed light on some of the big things about the MCRP community and was very well though out. I've been a big fan of Minecraft roleplays for a very long time and never got put of it. It is what sparked my love for rp and inspired me so much in the past. I do truly hope there is a rebirth of the love shared among this community and I hope that people find this video and become inspired to make something amazing and original. I've always wanted to be part of a Minecraft rp, just never had the chance. I'm hoping I can eventually change. The video was amazing Saber and I hope you are have a wonderful day.

As a small content creator for MC FNAF based roleplays, it is difficult to compete with those such as The Invisible Davis, FNAF MC RP, The Oddities, and FamousFilms. The unofficially unspoken expectations to have a great story or compelling characters that one can relate to can be quite a challenge to step up to the plate to. I take my content like this though : what I choose is something that I can focus on without trying to compare to such bigger people. They are inspiring, but they are not your foundation. Only you as a content maker can make your foundation. I love story making personally; forging characters, making plots that snatch one's attention - that's not something to be compared to others because that will destroy the product. For myself as a person (excluding being in the producer mindset) it is fun to hang out with friends knowing that they will support the story. My biggest inspiring person was actually Ersalin - not just from a story maker pov, but an art pov as well. The reason why I do better with skins this year than last year and the year before is because of her helpful videos. She is truly a great person to reference, I'd say she's better than the others I have mentioned, but that's a personal opinion.

I’m fairly sure no one else here has heard of this group, but throughout this video, I was thinking of Origins MCRP (Xylophoney and ItsRitchieW, to name a few). Their content started as modded survival with some small roleplay elements but turned into full cinematic masterpieces over the six years of their group’s lifetime. Last year, the group disbanded due to burnout and several other factors, but there’s been talk of ItsRitchieW bringing his My Hero Origins series back for a season two in case anyone is interested (he also reuploaded season one as a full movie). Xylophoney has also been hinting at a new series for several months now. I think this resurgence is starting to happen in that community too!

I'm glad someone finally adressess the situation because so far, most of the minecraft roleplayers I've seen over the years have stopped doing it, and I've seen the community diminishing little by little... I sometimes check out some other roleplays on KZbin so far. The only ones that I watch on a consistent basis are you and invisible Davis Studios. Like both of you, as well as a few other people here on youtube are litterally carrying what's left of this community! All of the roleplays I've watched are literally part of my childhood... but over time, creators like Aphmau and Ryguy, and etc... have stopped doing them, and it's been sad to see em go..... But me as a viewer, I hope that one day this amazing form of storytelling will become popular again and continue to thrive for everyone else to see- I've been watching minecraft roleplays for several years now.... and i ain't stopping....because it's truly amazing what this meduim/form of storytelling brings...

Thank you for making a video like this. Minecraft roleplays were a huge part of my childhood and meant so much to me. Once so many Minecraft creators left to pursue other projects, I did feel a little sad but still supported many of them nonetheless. Unfortunately, I never got exposed to any roleplays from smaller roleplay channels, so I wasn't really aware if content like this still existed. I am very happy to see the community is still around after all this time and I 100% support a new generation of creators keeping the torch lit. I hope this genre is introduced to new generations of viewers and brings tons of upcoming creators into the spotlight to show off their talent. Here's to MCTV!

I remember the old days of the Yogscast, and all the different RP stories they created. Seeing the evolution of Minecraft content overall is quite interesting. These days i find myself enjoying the Minecraft civilization content (Ish) and SMP content (Lifesteal SMP members). Thinking about all of that in the context of this video puts an interesting perspective on all of the content. All three of the different content are vastly different, from the stories of Israphel and Yoglabs of old, to the legends of Clownpierce and AFreakinTurkey, but despite how different they are, they all fall under the umbrella of Minecraft RP (to some degree). Some were following overarching story lines and reading scripts mostly, others crafted narratives of their own. All of these tales, in spite of their differences, still had massive impacts to those who watched. When you boil it down to the core, RP is acting, their isnt much difference between the actors of TV and Film, and the Roleplayers that perform these beloved videos on KZbin. Performance is art, no matter if its from a large studio production made for the big screen, or a bunch of friends getting together and telling an interesting story in a game they love. Its all the same, its all art.

I myself have been working on one myself. I want people to experience the same joy I got while growing up from Sabre and Aphmau. With Aph making the end of Mystreet we can truly see this small fire burst into a rush of flames.

A very in-depth video about the current state of this medium. As a fellow Creator in the same field... I really really enjoy making them seem alive by adding subtle animation. Or going the extra mile with custom Blockbench assets. I recently animated and edited the cinematic music trailer for SirCutieYuki's "Devi Devi Anarchy" series and it reinvigorated the love I have for the details. With plans in the work for more content in the same vein, I'm glad someone spoke about the challenges and potential for this model of content. Might I suggest the term "CineMinecraft"? 😂/j

Well Spoken Sabre!! It seems a lot of us MC creators agree with you on this topic, a lot of the creations as of late have been repetitive and monotonous (I am also at fault for this) Yandere, FNAF, High School. These topics are so common it's hard to bring something new to the table. I feel taking this switch from Minecraft Roleplay to MCTV might be just what we need to get some fresh faces into our community. To breathe even just a little bit of life back into what we all know and love! I know I'll be making the switch, I hope to see other's also hop onto this train and hopefully it will takes us to a place everyone can be happy with.

Hello! Just want to say that this was very well said and acknowledged several important points. The term MCTV is a much more fitting term rather then roleplay in some cases. And while the community has indeed died down a bit from what it once was, its still an amazing part of YT. It means a lot to me, and I'm sure many others still in this community that you still continue to create content although the algorithm isnt always well favorable towards that kind of content. This was a well explained video I hope everyone has a wonderful day/night!

I have loved minecraft roleplay for a long time. From watching Little Club videos as a 4th grader to watching Atlantic Craft ones in the same time frame, to now I have patticipated as a main character on a roleplay smp that wasnt for content but for fun with friends was amazing. quick summary of my character then, I went from the son of a man who has a split personality that provokes him to kill and conquer, to being a warrior that helped lead most of the server against an ender invasion of the overworld, to an anarchist double crossed by his friends and family, to an exiled man who found peace with his past mistakes and left with many other for another world after ours became destroyed due to magical corruption (ender invasion scars). I play on a minecraft rp server called Roleplay Hub which if youve heard of it, you may know its kinda controversial and such, have your own opinions abouy it thats fine. I played it very briefly back in 2021 but just recently got back into it to give it another go as when i originally tried i wasnt inyo actually doing rp on minecraft yet. (i was occupied with a WW1 Canadian unit rp on roblox which was actually very detailed and fun). Now that ive actually put some time into it recently, ive come to like it. its a school rp in Japan but my character is an American kid from Wyoming who just moved there, and is basically an outcast. Ive managed to make like 3 friends and weve had a great time over the course of a couple weeks now. once again, maybe its not your thing but i enjoy it and have actually become good friends with the players who play said characters. anyways grest video, and it does feel good to know the minecraft roleplay community is still alive and out there

Hi! Nice video Sabre! Also, what I think a Minecraft Roleplay is something that people like doing because… 1: It’s fun, and tells nice stories. 2: They’re enjoyable to make & do. 3: They make theories on the stories, makes people think what will happen next… Interesting, exiting, mysterious, and wondering! That is what I feel like a Minecraft Roleplay is to me. I hope you enjoyed what I thought! Bye!

(I don’t know weather it was like a literal sense or not I can’t remember) what I do remember tho is that my character was like the towns “crazy person” and my little cousin character met me when I was trying to befriend the skulk and he was like “what the heck you doin?” Also the examples I thought of was Stampy cat and Dsmp :))

I did watch roleplays in my teen/college years, especially since it mixed my two loves of storytelling and Minecraft together. I definitely agree Aphmau pioneered and skyrocketed a genre of MC. Aph's current videos are technically roleplay by definition, from the 'Adopted by' ones to the hub-centric videos. But although it fits the definition, it's drastically different to the older content, which is definitely more series-based as opposed to episodic oneshots. Seeing the change can really put into perspective the difference between MCTV and MCRP. MCRP can be anything that includes a story but does not need to be more than one video nor take itself too seriously. When a person thinks of MCTV, it can link back to regular TV and help the viewer know what to expect: a show taking itself seriously that will often focus on quality instead of quantity. This can also link back to the idea of having to wait a week before a show drops another episode, such as the Owl House. It's a different space, and the new term definitely will help manage audience expectations. As someone who is hoping to enter the MCRP/TV space, this was a good video for me to watch and I appreciate the effort put into it. It really helped me understand what the space was like and is trending towards. Great job and thanks for making this video.

Sabre, to me a Minecraft Roleplay is "A Minecraft Roleplay is a story of world made by the creator and his tools are what's given to him in game and the story are characters that take upon roles that are given to the person. And there could be improv if the cperson knows what he supposed to act like and do, and if he knows it's personality. A world without limits" Me and my friend have been inspired by you and we're trying to make our own but we still don't know how.

you know, I have always been a big fan of roleplay, the general roleplay community can be so creative and fun! It's like living out your own animated series or more. Minecraft roleplay is no different. but I wanna talk about more on the general concept of roleplay, mainly that I hope this community never dies. with how much creativity every roleplay has, no matter the platform or game, it often brings me joy to get fixated on something that isn't directly on tv, and something that I could actually participate in. I never was apart of a Minecraft roleplay before, but I am hoping sooner or later I get to be in one! thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

ItsFunneh, Aphmau, and Ashleyocity is really what got me into Minecraft role plays. It sucks knowing Funnehs yhs series got discontinued due to a laggy map.
