Different horses for different courses , but I do like a good 18th rig to go alongside my 1/10s

I don't have a travel story. What I do have is mobility issues. I love 1/10 and larger scale crawlers, but my limited mobility often precludes me from taking part in long trail courses or steep crawler comps. The 1/18 and 1/24 scale crawlers allow me to more readily participate in the RC hobby and competitions as they are less impactful to my back and knees since the courses for them are much smaller and don't require me to negotiate rough terrain.

I've gone on a few camping trips with both 1/10 & 1/18. Both were perfect for the situation. There was small terrain around the campsite. As well as very challenging, larger terrain for the 1/10 down the hiking/mtb trails. I use my 1/24 on my indoor course primarily. The 1/24s can be very capable when upgraded/tuned correctly. Most are very top heavy or have trash electronics out of the box.

I flew with two fully decked out 1/24 scale comp rigs last year in a backpack. Airport security was just more curious than anything. They could clearly see they were cars in the x-ray machine but they all were interested in actually seeing them so they made me unpack the pack and they all just stood in awe. That's the only time I've flown with crawlers. For me, it's about where I am living right now. The midwest doesn't have a whole lot of terrain that can challenge a 2.2 Pro comp rig so the minis and micros seem to be providing a solid fix. Also the Capra UTB sort of ate up the Mini moniker. But, yes, the Orlandoo Hunter stuff would be the actual "micro" in the room. There is smaller stuff but I'm not sure how well it compares.

I absolutely despise these micro crawlers. I hate working on them, they are more toyish than hobby grade when running them outside. The only good thing is you can play with them inside when it's cold. That's it. 1/6 is too big as well. I love my SCX6, but it's a pain to pack around. 1/10 is where it's at. Perfect size to work on, find places to run and can even run inside if you have the room. I've never had an issue finding a place to crawl with my 1/10 when I travel. I don't know what you're talking about there

@@Djkommode Same. I'm not hating on the small scale, a lot of people like it, but it's definitely not for me. It just feels like I'm playing with a toy instead of a hobby grade rc.
@Br0rB

@@TheRCBuildersPost I mean,. they're all toys, regardless of size, so yeah. ;) I have from 35th to 10th scale, and the smaller ones are great in winter or when the weather is bad, and living in Norway, that's about six out of 12 months a year. The really small ones, the micro Orlandoo Hunter ones are awesome little scale rigs that look amazing, and you can make some really nice scale terrain and courses that hardly take up any room in your house, which is great. I have a few videos of them, and the diorama style display terrain I made for them on my KZbin. They can be a bit of a nightmare to build though, being super tiny and the fact they only sell them as kits. :)

I’d be lying if I said I have used my 10 scales more than my 24s. A built 1/24 with a furitek and lizard pro and quality servo, just becomes the primary rig. Mine pretty much stays in my truck. I mess with it at lunchtime at work, my folks place when i visit, my kids love driving em, and when there is 3ft of snow outside they work perfect for inside stuff. I’m always gravitating more towards 1/24 than 1/10

Lower initial price, easy to make a home course, and I’m a trucker it’s easier bringing these than my scx6! And easier than bringing 1/10s but I still try to bring at least one. But man do I get weird looks and feel awkward when I’m out alone somewhere with a toy truck especially that tiny and I’m standing there as a full grown bearded man. I should probably try to stop being so self conscious about it. Just trying to keep my sanity and relax and have fun with my over 20yr long hobby obsession. You guys (Justin) just sent me out a servo you absolutely didn’t have to warranty or cover. Thanks again!!!!! Been buying HH since the losi mini 380 mini torquemaster.

Yes, 18th scale is mini. lol I took my 1/10 scale Ripper to South Dakota last summer. Crawling in the Badlands and at the National/State Parks was awesome!!! I don't mind traveling with a 1/10 scale. The minis and micros are definitely easier yet to travel with, I'd imagine, though. I'm so used to traveling all over with 1/10 and larger stuff at this point, it doesn't matter to me. lol With my eyes, tremors, and patience these days working on the minis and micros is not something I enjoy at all. Ha!

I prefer these scales over the larger ones to be honest. Blasphemous I know, but I just don't have the space nor funds to get into 10th scale properly. That being said, the SCX24 platform needs a lot to make them fun. By the time you widen and stretch them, they basically become a 1/18. I think the Gladiator and newer Power Wagon crew cab have the same 155mm wheelbase as the TRX4M anyway

Well, I know that in America there is a saying 'bigger is better'. It seems to me to be an opinion that generalizes a little too much, as if it were always better if it was bigger, but that's not the case at all. I own a 1/10 scale, a 1/14 scale, a 1/18 scale and a 1/24 scale. Every scale has its own reason. For example, I can't use my 1/10 in an apartment during the winter when I want to have some fun. I can't do anything about it. On the contrary, with my little 1/24 I can do whatever I want with it. A few objects are enough and I built a small path in a flash. The 1/14, 1/16 and 1/18 scales are great both at home and in small spaces and outdoors. It really depends on the area you are in. Big rocks? There is no problem for any scale. Lots of fragmented rocks? Well, perhaps a large scale is better, but even small ones, if set and modified in a certain way, can do things that, proportionately, not even a large scale would be able to do. Plus the small scales, as you said, are easy to transport. A small trip, an impromptu last minute excursion and it's done in a few seconds. We could also open various parentheses on the different type of model. If more crawler or more scaler, more performing or less performing but more realistic. For example my little 1/24 scale Defender D110 is a superscaler. Its performance is realistic, not excessive like a real crawler. Straight axes, and everything else for maximum realism. It doesn't matter that it can't do what my 1/18 scale, completely modified, capable of climbing practically anywhere can do. It was created for another reason. The little one is therefore very limited compared to many others, but it is so well made, so realistic, that I am enchanted just by watching it do what the real car could do, perhaps a little more, but all in a very, very realistic way. I love it, also because when I have a free moment, or want to play, wherever I am the little Defender is ready. For him there is no problem of where or space or route. I use it, have fun with it and then put it away. All in zero time. This weekend, for example, I'm going to a rally, a small local event for RC. Obviously I will bring the 1/10 beast with me, but I will certainly also have my 1/24 and one of the other three with me. That little one in the end, whether I go out with the big beast or go out with others, is always with me. Also because it is so small that it doesn't cost me anything to carry it. I hope I have been exhaustive in answering your curiosity.

I took a holiday recently with my Mom and Brother. I threw in my scx24 and fcx24 just in case. It was small enough that if there was no place to crawl I could just wrench a little. Turned out the accommodation had a small rock garden, back and front. Too small for 1:10 but perfect for the tiny trucks. My Mom and brother were also not intimidated by them so we all had a go, it was so much fun. 😂 Fantastic memories!

Well I can’t say I’ve taken minis in a trip but I take them to certain spots that were perfect for minis I definitely like the 1:18 scale crawlers & the selection is really good & they have gotten so good they crawl like a 1:10 scale. It’s just a good alternative to just 1:10 scale & gives you more versatility & more RC time. You can’t really go wrong by adding a few minis to the collection. 👍

I made a trip to the Dublin Mountains and brought a pair of Minis (TRX4m and FCX24) for me and my kid. It happened that the place was great for all scales, but definitely the garden of the house we stayed in was full of small of rocks perfect for these minis, we had a great time crawling there, and the 1/10s would have been too big for those obstacles. I use to take a TRX4m fully specd with me every time I travel.

First crawler was a 1/10, boy was that a dumb idea. There’s no rocks anywhere near here, it’s all flat and boring. Promptly snapped the transmission while driving inside the house, a wheel caught on some fabric and a couple seconds later SNAP! Now I have an FCX24, and while outside is still the same, I can find fun obstacles inside the house. Plus I can easily carry it around if I’m looking for some place to have fun. Bonus, I now also have a 3d printer and I’m doing quite a bit of customization work that on a 1/10 wouldn’t have fit on the build plate.

I live in northern Michigan. We have the 1/18-1/24 scale crawlers for winter. We run our 1/10 outside in the nice weather and go inside on built courses with the small ones when it's nasty. Year round crawling. And we have a full winter comp series with a new rig for the champ in the spring. There are $1000 1/24 crawlers. I have a meus scx24 based with almost the same money as my vrd carbon. They may be small, but the cost is not always proportional.😅

Micro would be anything smaller than the 1/24th. Mini is used by Traxxas with the M to separate their trucks. The 24 by axial is kind of the the standard. Even FMS adopted the M with their new ones. I have a family of crawlers. I stick with the 1/24. I can fit 4 in a Harbor Freight 3800 case. The V2 can be controlled by a breakaway FMS controller which helps with space as well. We are fully invested in 1/24 and although I understand 1/18 is a good medium platform, I'm trying to avoid investing in another scale for parts but I figure the market is accepting the 1/18 and eventually I will give in too. Scale between 1/24 and 1/18 I sometimes a line blurred anyways. Anyways, I'm happy to hear you are warming up to the idea of it not being the size of the rig but the low speed crawl that woman dig

Absolutely perfect for little toddlers you don't want to mess with your nice stuff. 1/10 is already a miniature... Why delve into baby toys. Talk about embarrassing in public

They are all toys and mini regardless of being 1/8 or 1/32. Its an hobby and many may consider it childish which i take as a compliment since my inner child never got away lol

Not if you build it really awesome and different 😮 I have almost all scale sizes and they all have a place for fun in many beautiful locations it's all on your perspective of creativity and fun 😊 also throw pride aside and go have some dang cheap fun they are easy to pack around and still fun in their own unique way 👍
