@@mike.94 Depends on definition of biggest. I love this battle and I am not fond of.....rise of Skywalker, but that final space battle might have had more ships. So battle of corsucant had an unconfirmed number of 2250 capital ships with, 190,000 Republic fighters and 1.2 million CIS fighters. Battle of Exegel had 16,000 ships. But we are not told if those are all "capital" equivalent ships, or milenium falcon style ships or fighters. Not as big ships, and not all meant for war. And not even close to the same amount of troops. I think the CIS had a billion droids "available" at start of the battle.

It is horrifying to notice how much of a master stroke this was from Palpatine, he destroyed what was left of the droids and left the republic with its pants completely down and incredibly scared in one foul swoop. Tzeentchian level of manipulation.

They aired on Cartoon Network for a few months before Revenge of the Sith hit theaters. 2D Clone Wars was a bunch of 5-15 minute episodes, with the very last episode of season 2 directly connecting to the opening scene of RotS

Which is why the 2D clone wars which was finished airing on tv like, weeks before RotS hit theaters, is so important. Not only does it cover Coruscant, but the last episode ends as the space battle begins, just moments if not seconds before the opening of RotS. It's really fun to watch the 2D clone wars in it's entirety between Attack of the Clones and RotS in the same sitting (or at least clone wars into sith)

@@kaylahills3760 the way I've always recommended people to watch the movies goes chronologically like this: 1. Ep. I - Phantom Menace 2. Ep. II - Attack of the Clones 3. Clone Wars (microseries) 4. Ep. III - Revenge of the Sith 5. Ep. IV - A New Hope 6. Ep. V - The Empire Strikes Back 7. Ep. VI - Return of the Jedi Not more nor less! 😉 I've once thought of implementing the Shadows of the Empire to that order, but welp, figured it could be too much 🤗 And hey, at this point. Why would You really care much about what's canon or not? Does it really has any meaning this day and age? Don't really want to stir any shitstorm here by sharing my opinions, but... I believe Disney screwed enough their own canon within few years, creating rather messy universe 😁 Guess, to each ones own, eh? I'll stick my guns with good ol' Expanded Universe, (a little bit) pre-Filoni and (obviously) pre-Disney era. Cheers! ✌

@@kaylahills3760 It would have been nice to canonize him but is imposible cause both series are completely different in their plot. In the 2d series the clones were the best of the best in the galaxy and Fordo was the elite, an arc trained by Mandalorians and hardened in a really raw war. For his serie, Filoni devised the clones as innocent soldiers with feelings, who had a hasty and somewhat deficient training, all this that the spectators feel empathy for them and really fear assuming that anyone could die for not being prepared for that war (even though droids were idiots). Fordo doesn t fit in that argument.

I kinda found it crappy that we never got a more in depth look at the battle of coruscant as it was pivotal part of the clone wars that was near the end. Especially since the separatists sent so many droids and vehicles which would choke out republic forces sans Jedi.

One thing I hate about it is how Grievous just gets the shaft EVERY time he actually does something quite brilliant (even if he was destined to lose by virtue of being in Palpatines hand from the start). TCW gave him a few decent moments but even there he was mostly a villain of the week who got flak for constantly retreating and the movies do him even dirtier. We see the VERY end of the battle of Coruscant, one of his boldest moves but nobody stops to think that "Hey the CIS is literally attacking the CORE of the Republic and managed to capture it's leader from the hand of the Jedi, cripple its standing military and scar the population for generations" no, it's "Haha, funy droid haz *asthma* " because we don't even get to see Windu injure him...

@@El_Fabricio Yeah but that's literally it. I remember rewatching those not to long ago and the Coruscant arc lasted like 10-minutes. It's nice we got to see the CIS not look totally inept and Grevious was great in it but a few minutes out of hundreds of hours of Star Wars content doesn't exactly make up for how incompetent they've otherwise been portrayed. There are of course books and comics but books while fun to read will never be a stand-in for seeing a Galaxy far, far away in motion.

Two things. One, it was explained that the ground battle was won for the Republic fairly quickly by the time Episode 3 had actually began. Two, advanced society. Cleanup efforts are probably much more efficient than in the real world.

During the Battle of Coruscant, wasn’t it then Lt. Commander Lorth Needa, skipper of the Coruscant Home Defense Fleet ship Integrity (Light Cruiser, Carrack class) who ended up in charge of Strike Group Five and ordered the Invisible Hand to be fired upon, resulting in Anakin Skywalker having half a ship to land? This would be the same Needa that lost the Millennium Falcon in the Hoth system asteroid field and was executed by Vader for his failure.

All three prequel movies could have been an hour longer, each. Phantom Menace should have had about another 20 minutes of Darth Maul, and AOTC and ROTS should have shown much more of the actual war. Okay, for once I actually knew a lot about the battle were talking about, mainly because I wrote a fanfic for the Battle combining Canon, Legends, and my own ideas, well over a year ago, so I did research for the battle. And by research, I mean reading the Wookiepeida article about the battle and rewatching Chapters 23 to 25 of the 2005 Clone Wars micro-series over and over again for almost every minute detail I could find, mainly so I could go into excessive detail about the fight scenes. Of course, I did make changes like I said, didn't have Stass with the group because I felt Grevious couldn't be able to beat two fresh masters, and I had Roth and B'ink with the group from the very beginning thus they were a part of that crazy fight in the train station, one of the cooler and unique fights from Star Wars if you ask me. Also, I chose to end the story after the events depicted in Chapter 25. And despite all that, I still didn't know everything about the battle, so once again, you have proven yourself the Grand Master of Star Wars Lore, Master Geetsly. In comparison, I am still just a Padawan, far inferior to your greatness. Although, one thing I did beat you at is I made sure to include Fordo in all his badassness in my fanfic, whereas you failed to mention him at all and the role he played in this battle. That was you're one mistake, Master Geetsly. LOL.

All the in depth stuff from key episodes showing emotion of why clones Jedi and separatists did what they did. I read "Labyrinth of Evil", and this largely follows that narrative. The movie left out tons of details like this, but was visually hypnotic. Horrifying the death and destruction on both sides, just so Palpatine could tighten the noose on Anakin.

i actually really really enjoyed reading this story as part of "The Dark Lord Trilogy". it was the first book and the second book was the novelization was revenge of the sith. you can also find out what that "business on cato nemoidia" was that kenobi claims doesnt count. was a really good read when you read those 3 books in succession and it really gives you a much better view of just how badass Grievous really was in both battle but also strategy. it was a masterful use of slight of hand and it made it far more clear on whether or not grievous ever actually knew who darth sidious actually, which is a detail that the movies dont make all that clear other than to leave you with assumptions. i love hearing more info on this

I thought the pre-Disney cannon put the victory-1 class did not show up till the end of this battle, the ventors were getting there ass kicked when a fleet of identified star destroyers came out of hyperspace and forced the seps to retreat with whats left of the defense force not knowing who or what saved them. It was the 1st public appearance of the victory-1 to ever be seen. Now this is pre-disney cannon around the original SW battlefront 2 era from the 2000’s.

Actually the abandon ship tactic grievous used was a last ditch effort on his part he ordered the ship to stay in the atmosphere so when it did fall apart it would plummet to the ground. As a last resort he launched all escape pods to make it impossible to escape essentially making the ship there tomb he’s majorly under rated as a tactician and warrior

I read the now legends Labyrinth Of Evil novel a while back. It covered all of the extensive details regarding the Battle of Coruscant, like where Padme was throughout the battle, and Mace & Shak Ti searching Palpatine's secret tower in the industrial sector, and so on.

There is actually a really good Star Wars novel about the events leading up to Episode 3 including the battle of Coruscant and Palpatines abduction by Grievous. I can really recommend it. I listened quite often to it as a child. In the german version they even got the Original voice actors for all characters. It‘s called Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil. There‘s just a few small details that don‘t fit Star Wars canon any longer because of the last Clone Wars season. But it is still very accurate and a good depiction of the cat and mouse game between Sidious and the Jedi council and I really like the depiction of the Battle of Coruscant in the novel. It makes me sad that only people who speak german get to experience the masterpiece that is the german audio book of Labyrinth of Evil Edit: It should really be edited to fit with the Events of the Clone Wars and made into A Star Wars Story movies

I just watched episode 3 again last night and one of the things that bothered me was after the battle, when Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi met at the Spaceport with the politicians, in that scene in the movie on Coruscant there was no damage anywhere. That has bothered me every time I've watched the movie because the battle was devastating to the entire planet and there should have been destruction everywhere.

I like how the last season of TCW really puts in perspective the near victory the Republic had. I wish a story arc covered the 1st half of this battle as you did and end with the Mandalore Seige. Then we'd see that the majority of the Seperatists fleet destroyed, a major blow to the droid army, losses in the Outer Rim Theater, failed attacks on the front, and the political victory Palpatine earned. Not to mention the loss of several Seperatists Generals (Dooku, Grievous, Trench, etc.) Basically all at once.

this legit would be an awesome mini series, or even a longer series dettailing the hard fought battles throughtout star wars history, the two battles of Geonosis, the siege of mandalore from the clones perspective, and it could end the first season (which would be the prequels) with the battle of coruscant, then a second season could be the same but in the og trilogy, dettailing big battles from the perspective of other people that were not the protagonists but who had an impact regardless, maybe now that its been confirmed that that old bearded soldier in the battle of endor was Captain Rex they could make a chapter dedicated to following him through the battle and stuff like that

I like the fact that there was fighting going in even down in the underworld. Above the planet, on the planet’s surface, and in its underworld. The battle engulfed like an entire hemisphere of the planet. The heroes of cularin go there and kill Garth Ezzar, a dark Jedi trained & employed by Sidious who was sent to wipe out the Almas Jedi academy then, went to aid in the battle of Coruscant, where they catch up with and kill him in the under-levels.. Like there are so many stories to be told about one single battle. It’s like my favorite single battle in Star Wars probably, it had everything. All the way down to a Jedi cutting down a Sith Lord in combat. It had everything. The battle of Coruscant, the first act of ROTS, is like the “happily-not-ever-after” ending and last hurrah of the clone wars/prequel era heroes.. The Battle of Coruscant should’ve been the last episodes of TCW. It could’ve been a 3-4 episode arc as well, that tells it from all its fronts. Like I said, I wana see Garth Ezzar fighting the Almas academy Jedi in the underlevels. But “legends” content will never happen now, Disney ruins everything.

I think this battle should have been on a clone wars episode and when Anakin and kenobi are inside the invisible hand the episode can focus on what’s happening outside the ship. It also could be 2 or even 3 episodes
