@S3Ranj 200 bhp per cylinder is getting there. Like he says there are many variables but oil pressure is the most important thing to stop the rods touching the crank bearing. 600bhp should be safe all day if done properly. My ttrs is built for 300bhp per cylinder....that won't last but I'm OK with that 🤣

Not that I want to out the team who tuned your car, but making note of boost pressure which is referred to often in this video, was the tuners not aware of this? Feels like, and correct me if I’m wrong, if you kept the boost around 1.9, the engine wouldn’t have blown?
@S3Ranj
@S3Ranj 6 ай бұрын
It’s a fair comment to make. I used to drive the car in med boost 1.9 bar for 95% of the time. But tbh, I’ve been seeing a lot more cars tuned at 2.2 on a stock block, and I’m like.. does that sound promising. I do think it’s more of an intricate thing, meaning, I think boost pressure has its own variables, and I’m no tuning expert. But I think if it was kept at a lower boost, it would have been less likely to have blown up. I’m actually going to remove the current MRC map once’s it built, and go with a different tuner.

Nothing new here 😂 Engines are designed to survive the standard specification over a long period but as the milage goes up so dose wear, by putting the engine under more stress ( boost & torque ) you are just shortening the lifespan of components to which they will fail prematurely. Iv still never understood why people think they can double the power out of a engine and expect it to last
@S3Ranj
@S3Ranj 6 ай бұрын
I partially agree. My car for instance hadn’t been driven hard. I regret not doing so. I use to drive it like a queen all the time. A real waste. There are too many variables though. My brother has an RS3 8P, much higher mileage than mine, driven hard, and it’s fine. Like I said, there are many variables. Nathan touched on maintenance, boost pressure, other modifications etc. So to answer your question, quite simply, because there are people out there with cars that are near double the power. It is straight forward, and it isn’t. Depending on the context.
@nickthegriffin
@nickthegriffin 6 ай бұрын
@@S3Ranj yeh I agree the variables are there but pushing more power will always put more wear on the components which will lead to prematurely failures. One way to look at it is say someone has a 500hp one and it lasts 100k miles before failure then it was probably a good one that would do 200k plus
@S3Ranj
@S3Ranj 6 ай бұрын
@@nickthegriffin I do partially agree with you, like I said. There are other things too, that play in people’s thought process, such as, risk versus reward. In any case, I’m glad my engine will be future proofed, so to speak.

@@S3Ranj yeh that's also a good way to look at it 👍 I'm old as f 😂 been doing this for years & although technology has changed as the Americans like to say " no replacement for displacement" 2.0l 4 cylinder will always be a balancing act when looking for performance

once a person says its basic physics, close your ear... "when you compress air, it generates heat"?🤣🤣... In simple logic, more boost/air with less fuel results in more heat due to pre ignition and the rest follows...
@wosa9461
@wosa9461 6 ай бұрын
Incorrect, that quote was “simple logic” referring to the more you compress air, the hotter it will get as molecules are forced closer together (basic physics) Regardless of air to fuel ratios, that increase in boost will always see a hotter mixture. This is why we see increased exhaust gas temperatures as we increase the boost - the more power you extract, the more heat it will generate with the same afr ratio As for “the more heat due to pre ignition” - pre-ignition is a result of increased cylinder/piston temperature, not a reason for increased cylinder temperatures. It is a pre-spark combustion caused by fuel igniting prematurely as a result of cylinder temps exceeding the lower heating value of the fuel used
@S3Ranj
@S3Ranj 6 ай бұрын
I can't comment, as I didn't do well in Physics! 😅
@Honk_Media
@Honk_Media 6 ай бұрын
If pre-igntion was the sole cause for more heat I dont think the intercooler would be before the air reaches the engine..... 😂 Its almost like compressing air does indeed cause it to heat up 🤔 hence why the more boost you run the larger/higher density of intercooler you want to run to keep intake air temps as close to ambient as possible.
