MLS is more trusted by Arteta and that speaks volumes. We had huge expectations of ESR but Saka overtook him. Maybe it’s because he is older than the latter. Anyways, Nwaneri, MLS, Rosiak, Downman, Butler, M’hand, Heavens, Kaccuri are huge prospects and we should protect them at all costs.

I feel like we are still missing a creative back up in midfield. Odegaard is our most creative player that can pick a pass. After him the closest would be Trossard maybe. So we're missing a playmaker. Vieira or ESR could have been that. Nwaneri could be it, but he doesn't seem like he can do it fully yet.

Press resistant, an eye for THE pass or pass before the assist, excellent off the ball position and able to carry with a great mentality. A perfect 6 honestly.

You forgot to add attitude to go for days. I mean. dude squared up to Haaland after the Citeh match, and against Palace he was guarding a whole foot taller Mateta during corners. I couldn't stop laughing.

His qualities aren't uncommon in LBs. But they're extremely rare in good DMs. He has the potential to grow into players like Partey and Rodri. DMs with their qualities are rare and underappreciated. They're the backbone of the team and the gearbox in the attack. With Partey aging quickly, I have high expectations from him in the midfield.

Skelly was a pretty commanding DM in academy and reserve, he plays very similarly to Declan Rice at early Arsenal years where he confidently takes on defenders from deep. I think training alongside Rice, Partey, Odegaard, Zinny and Jorginho has improved his overall game. I think he'll play in midfield in thee coming years.
@theDitto40417 күн бұрын
I think Lewis-Skelly also helps Martinelli's play. Having that progressive pass down the left hand side should open up more opportunities for Martinelli to get in behind like he did so well last season that made him so dangerous. We need his return to form with Saka being out for the next few weeks. Hopefully we see Nwaneri getting time on the right hand side, he's been great in that role when called upon. I suspect we'll see this starting XI with current injuries in the squad, though wouldn't be surprised to see Havertz starting in place of Jesus or Jorghino in midfield replacing either Rice or Partey, this seems to be the "in form" XI for me Martinelli Jesus Nwaneri Rice Odegaard Partey Lewis-Skelly Gabirel Saliba Timber Raya
@NorthLondonForeverCOYG16 күн бұрын
Knowing Arteta, he won’t start MLS now as Calafiori is back. And Havertz will start. Jesus looks better with him in the team. He will probably put Martinelli on the right like he did last season and rotate Trossard and Sterling on the left. Raya Timber Saliba Gabriel Calafiori Rice Ødegård Merino/Havertz Martinelli Jesus Trossard/Sterling Kiwior, MLS, Nwaneri, Partey, Jorginho, Zinchenko as permanent subs. This team looks pretty experienced and balanced even with 2 of our best players injured.

it would be crazy if he ends up benching Calafiori

I'm thinking that he could take over Thomas Partey at the 6 come the beginning of next season. I've wanted Martín Zubimendi for that role for the longest time, but maybe MLS is the solution we've needed all this time. And he wouldn't be alone protecting the back four, Rice would still be around to do that. Manchester City's precipitous decline is due to the absence of the quality single pivot Guardiola's system relies on. Arteta actually uses a double pivot, except the second holding midfielder plays left 8. If last year Partey had stayed healthy and played to the level he did in 23-24, we would have seen a double pivot made in heaven. Partey's decline is as terminal as his contract, and I think Arteta has identified MLS as the guy with the tactical ability, press resistance and vertical fearless passing to replace him.

This is my dream idea too.
@Originator717 күн бұрын
Your idea is clueless... Thomas Partey is irreplaceable by no one in the Arsenal squad at the moment. We have a high percentage of loosing games without Partey in the squad. Don't underestimate Parteys role in this Arsenal squad.

Games are many , he could just be the best solid option in tight games, Cala is more of a ball carrier but can be exposed

@@Originator7 The ad hominem attack (clueless) is not only useless, but annoying because it doesn’t address the issue being discussed. The thread is about what MLS can do or even replacing Calafiori, not about underestimating Partey. I’m not going to repeat myself, rather, read my comment again and respond with something constructive that people around here can actually learn from.

He gives Moussa Dembele control and press resistance and security with the ball at feet and progressive carry. Saka started in this similar pathway, filling in the left back before transitioning into the current right wing threat. He will be a replacement for Jorginho.

MLS being touted as Partey's successor is making the Rice transfer a bit... pointless? 100 mil could've been spent on an actual world class midfielder like Camavinga or Pedri
