One common misconception that I still see a lot is there are people who believe Naruto became a jonin after the war, but the truth is that he didn’t. Yes, Naruto Shippuden had an anime only scene that was never in the manga where Kakashi tells Naruto he’ll make him a jonin, but it’s under the condition that Naruto, someone notoriously bad at studying, passes the jonin written exam, but Naruto never does so. By Naruto the last, Kishimoto writes in the movie databook that Naruto is still a genin, with only Shikamaru and Sakura being promoted to jonin by then and Sai has a special rank in the anbu. In Boruto’s anime, Naruto tells us that he never became a jonin, because he just skipped to hokage and in boruto two blue vortex’s manga, which is the boruto time skip, Sarada tells us that Naruto skipped from genin to hokage, which makes it funny. Naruto really did what he said in the chunin exams in part 1, it didn’t matter if he stayed a genin he’d still become hokage, believe it.

Neji, Temari and Kankuro as well as all of Naruto’s classmates except Sasuke became Jonin and the only ones who wore the vests were Shikamaru, Lee and Choji until Naruto married Hinata, then they all decided to ditch the vest for some reason. PS. I didn’t count the Ninja War uniforms because I figured it was a special occasion where even Gaara as a Kage on the frontlines had to wear one.

I feel like at a certain point they just kind of forgot that Naruto was still a genin. He was already stronger than everyone else in the world and he was still sent on high level missions (prologue of Kakashi Hidan, rescuing Hinata in The Last) so honestly it would be funny if everyone just forgot. Maybe Naruto himself even thought it would be funny if he never actually became a Jonin before becoming Hokage. But the big thing about that anime scene is that Naruto would only be a Jonin IF he passed the exam, which he would have to study a lot for and then actually pass it. Nowhere does it say that Naruto did become a Jonin, but that he would if he could pass the test, and I think that’s where people get confused

The funny thing was in the chunnin exam arc in the first Naruto series he took the exam and beat Neji. It sucks that he couldn't finish because the Sound and Sand invasion happened. How come Shikamaru got the rank and he forfeit his match and Naruto won his but didn't get it?

indeed , the ninja hero Uzumaki Naruto never promoted to Jounin rank ninja , but he performed what a genuine ninja should , for not being burdensome , allowing " submissive leadership " to every mission they have , even emulating the Chinese Confucian " Golden Rule " in friendship , & the most important of all , he himself fulfilled his lifelong goal of being a " Hokage " to top it all though the story narrative didn't give emphasis to it step by step 😎✌️ Uzumaki Naruto answered just one correct answer in his last " chunin examination " back to the initial chapter of his journey to legacy : NEVER QUiT !

It just makes to think of all the enemies that lost to a "Genin". First that comes to mind would be the Self proclaimed "God".. Lord Pain lol but we all know how much of a beast that "genin" is. Plus The 9 tails helped there too. Without Kurama's help Naruto wouldnve been the next exorcism victim 😅

I mean it kinda tracks though i wouldn't trust naruto in the role of mission strategy leader. I trust him in the role of front line/bodyguard. He will use his power to protect the village, when it comes to executive management i still imagine he signs 90% of whatever shikamaru says is a good idea with little critical thinking

For clarity, that statement wasn't about ranks. It was about being the strongest. When Naruto said that to konohamaru he then says, " How can you become hokage when you can't even beat me" They were talking about the hokage being the strongest in the village

It's the opposite he beat a chunin to become a genin, beat a jinchuriki who transformed into his beast mode and hyuga prodigy in a single day and pretty much won the whole thing, his whole career he fought S rank or high tier rouge shinobi with dangerous bloodline limits and he wasn't even training or taught anything properly first he got properly trained he became kage lv in a week, So even in part 1 he was a elite jounin lv genin with kage lv reserves and kage lv feats, bro neutralized Gaara and made him a permanent friend and close ties with konoha.

I think it has less to do with his strength and more to do with the ability to lead a team on missions that often require decision making that will affect a lot of people’s lives. Shinobi by definition are political tools and the higher ranking they get the more they get involved and Naruto’s mentality just wasn’t mature enough for that at the time.

This thing of "skipping from genin to hokage". Kage is a political title, it doesnt have anything to do with being a Jounin. Jounin is the highest rank a ninja can achieve

gotta remember, winning a match in the chunin exams doesn't guarantee you become a chunin. it was stated that even if you won the whole tournament you might not get promoted. thats why shikamaru lost but got promoted to chunin. it's about your judgment through the final rounds that determines the promotion. they said it, had naruto or neji or sasuke been leading a team they would have gotten eliminated all so he could win the fight, whereas Shikamaru and Temari, the way they conducted themselves, their team would have been alive at the end of everything

It always truly irritated me that Naruto wasn’t made hokage after saving konoha from pain. It’s so insane that Naruto wasn’t even at least a candidate to be hokage at that time.
