When most countries complain about US unilateralism, they have a point. The US can be heavy handed. When Russia and China complain about US unilateralism, it's because they don't like the consequences of their own actions. Don't start nothing, won't be nothing. Since the fall of the Berlin wall Russia has been in more military actions (not longer but more) than the US. China has debt trapped over a dozen countries and assumed control over parts of their infrastructure. Unilateralism can have many faces.

@@Bruce954 Just because it's not mentioned in the video doesn't mean it doesn't apply in real life. Those parts of both countries are barely inhabited and have very little in the way of military bases, whilst the rest of the arctic coastline of Russia has alot more, along with the rest of Alaska. If Canada went to war with Denmark, most people would say the quickest way would be over the Atlantic ocean. But no, the quickest way is technically an uninhabited island between mainland Canada and Greenland. But there's no real point in mentioning that island, is there?
@Bruce954 Жыл бұрын
@@ASlickNamedPimpback, you seem to miss the whole point. When you listen to what has been said (and not let you be guided by your own thoughts and interpretation), you will know that I was right. If not, then something might be wrong at your side and to be frank, that is a you-problem. Also, Canada and Denmark in war? Hahaha, good joke. Something with NATO. Both founding members. But yes, the closest distance between the Kingdom of Denmark and Canada would indeed be Greenland and Canada. You know that Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Danish Kingdom right? When it comes to Denmark as the country itself, then it would be Denmark on the European continent.
@ASlickNamedPimpback Жыл бұрын
@@Bruce954 You want me to listen to the video again? Alright. Look up a map of the arctic region (no, not Arctic Circle, Arctic region). The Bering straight, along with the closest parts of Russia and America, are in the Arctic. What did the video say again? "The shortest distance between Russia and the US is over the Arctic." And, would you look at that, it is right there. Also, I wasn't making a joke about Canada and Denmark at war. It was an example, and you're nitpicking for no reason. I know they wouldn't go to war. You seem to have something wrong, though. I wasn't talking about Greenland. I was talking about Hans Island, which is a tiny, uninhabited island which is split between Canada and Greenland... and hence the Danish Kingdom, therefore Denmark. But there is a better example out there. Let's say Brazil declares war on France. No reason, just for a laugh and to conquer their entire country. Fun fact, though, the two countries share a land border through French Guyana, which is in every way a part of France. However, if the Brazilians concentrated their efforts on a tiny chunk of land whose industry largely consists of shrimp fishing and space travel, they'd find their goal of fighting France to be difficult, because they're not actually attacking anything important. Just like Russia going through a tiny mostly uninhabited strait to attack the US would be very unlikely, and thus they'd likely go from their own coastline to the US'.

On 24 February 2012, Donald Cook was awarded the 2011 Battle Efficiency "E" award.[8] On 9 April 2014, U.S. military officials confirmed the deployment of Donald Cook to the Black Sea,[9] shortly after Russia's annexation of Crimea and amid the pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine. The U.S. Department of Defense's official statement said that the vessel's mission was "to reassure NATO allies and Black Sea partners of America’s commitment to strengthen and improve interoperability, while working towards mutual goals in the region".[10] On 10 April 2014, the warship was reported to have entered the Black Sea.[citation needed] On 12 April 2014, an unarmed Russian Su-24 "Fencer" strike aircraft made 12 close-range passes of Donald Cook during a patrol of the western Black Sea.[11][12] According to an allegation by a Pentagon spokesman, "The aircraft did not respond to multiple queries and warnings from Donald Cook, and the event ended without incident after approximately 90 minutes." Further, Donald Cook is more than capable of defending herself against a pair of Su-24s.[13] In 2014, Russia's state-run news-media outlets ran a series of reports that falsely asserted that during that incident, the Su-24, equipped with the Khibiny electronic warfare system, had disabled the ship's Aegis combat systems. The misinformation was later picked up by British tabloid The Sun and by Fox News, and later reported as Russian propaganda by The New York Times.[14] On 14 April 2014, Donald Cook visited Constanta, Romania, where President Traian Băsescu had a tour of the ship. Donald Cook then conducted various exercises in concert with the Romanian Navy before departing the Black Sea on 24 April 2014.[15] On 26 December 2014, for the second time, according to the U.S. Navy, the destroyer entered the Black Sea to reassure and demonstrate U.S. commitment to work closely with NATO allies.[16] Donald Cook participated in exercises with the Turkish Navy, including an underway replenishment and other exercises with the Yavuz-class frigate TCG Fatih on 28 December 2014. The ship visited Constanta, Romania, on 30 December and Varna, Bulgaria, on 8 January 2015. She also participated in exercises with Ukrainian Navy ship Hetman Sahaydachniy on 11 January 2015, and then departed the Black Sea on 14 January 2015.[17] A Russian Sukhoi Su-24 attack aircraft makes a very-low-altitude pass by USS Donald Cook on 12 April 2016. Video released by the US Navy of the encounter with the Sukhoi Su-24 On 11 and 12 April 2016, two Russian Su-24s performed several low-altitude passes on Donald Cook while the ship was conducting exercises with a Polish helicopter in international waters in the Baltic Sea, 70 nautical miles (130 km; 81 mi) off Kaliningrad. A Russian Ka-27 "Helix" antisubmarine helicopter also circled the destroyer seven times. The U.S. Navy released photos and videos of the incident on 14 April, and the U.S. government lodged a complaint with the Russian government.[18][19] In response to the U.S. Secretary of State commenting on the incident and saying that "under the rules of engagement, that could have been a shoot-down",[20] the Russian Federation Council's official Igor Morozov said that the U.S. likewise "ought to know that Donald Cook approached our borders and may already be unable to depart those."[citation needed] On 26 February 2019, the ship hosted U.S. diplomats Gordon Sondland, Marie Yovanovitch, Kurt Volker, the EU's Jean Christophe-Belliard, and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, among others.[21]"

"The nuclear-powered Project 949A Antey (Oscar II class) submarine K-141 Kursk sank in an accident on 12 August 2000 in the Barents Sea. It was taking part in the first major Russian naval exercise in more than 10 years. All 118 personnel on board were killed. The crews of nearby ships felt an initial explosion and a second, much larger explosion, but the Russian Navy did not realise that an accident had occurred and did not initiate a search for the vessel for over six hours. The submarine's emergency rescue buoy had been intentionally disabled during an earlier mission and it took more than 16 hours to locate the submarine, which rested on the ocean floor at a depth of 108 m (354 ft). Over four days, the Russian Navy repeatedly failed in its attempts to attach four different diving bells and submersibles to the escape hatch of the submarine. This all would have looked a lot scarier coming from Russia before their botched Ukraine invasion (version 2). I find it a bit hard to believe that anyone is taking Russian claims or threats all that seriously these days wrt the Arctic. I mean, look at the state of their military when, basically, everything is in their favor wrt the invasion of Ukraine...and they are still losing badly. How much of a threat are they going to be fighting in such difficult terrain in the Arctic? How much of their equipment will actually work? How well are their troops going to be trained? How would they logistically support something like that, when they have had such obvious failures of logistics right on their border? Sorry, I know this video was supposed to be scary, but I find it hard to believe that NATO can't deal with whatever Russia tries to do in the region. China, who claimed to be a 'near Arctic state' (whatever that means) is much more a threat.

err I'm not sure that 28 Trillion dollar makes sense, since you are evaluating ALL of the boe as price of barrel of oil Looking at the 2008 USGS report "Circum-Arctic Resource Appraisal: Estimates of Undiscovered Oil and Gas North of the Arctic Circle" only 90 GBbl is direct oil evaluating that aspect as 6.3 Trillion dollars. Natural Gas on the other hand is valued much less at Henry Hub prices of 2.57 USD/MMBtu (1000 CF (cubic feet) = 1 MMBtu). Given the reports 1,668,657.84 BCFG (billion cubic feet), that would come out 4.3 Trillion dollars. LNG was a little difficult to calculate given the unorthodox unit of MMBNGL and can't find any prices for that, all that is given is 44,064.24 MMBNGL (million barrels of natural gas liquids) So just the Oil and NG are at 10.6 Trillion Dollars, and then more for the LNG as well.

Russia wants to find out if there are countries beyond the arctic whose land masses have been hidden from the public. To find out about this they need to make sure it is not the case. One way to do that is to make sure they are not part of the Antarctic Treaty. In the case of China, China might have to consider not being part of the Antarctic Treaty. Once Russia and China confirm they are not part of this treaty, they might gain access to lands people have no idea exist, provided these lands do exist. The idea here is that some of these ´unknown´land masses might have clean water. If they do, it is possible to utilize a tiny amount of this water for electricity production. What this means is if this is confirmed, then the end - result are lower water and electricity bills in Russia and China. This means some of them might become interested in migrating to these countries. If these countries are not out there then the value of the water and also energy increases in Russia and China.

Leave the damn arctic alone? Option? Option. We don't even have the economy, globally, to afford to utilize those resources. We have more energy than we will ever need right now. Contrary to popular belief, Europeans friom a few earlier centuries never liked to live in frigid places all year long, and years in the northern reaches of the geographical Inuit areas of their countries where it's forever frigid and icy almost all the time. Only Eskimos / Inuits liked such places of those three countries and Imperial Russia all year long and all around the north pole actually from just north of the Arctic Circle. . During the time of Peter the Great, North Sweden and North Norway and North Finland exported or deported all their Inuit Eskimo populations living there 300 years ago or so, living around the Arctic Circle to Imperial Russia and north Russia and Siberian Russia, in exchange for money paid to Imperial Russia. This was how Sweden the other two countries got rid of their Inuit populations and Eskimo populations about 300 years ago, in exchange for money. They were exported to Imperial Russia in exchange for money. The Eskimos were replaced by whites with a Nomadic lifestyle in North sweden and Norway and North Finland in places closer to the North Pole. I forgot the name of that ethnic group, like Sami white Inuits or white Eskimos, which had a similar lifestyle to Inuits. Like Inuits, the Sami white tribes likes fish and reindeer meat. All Inuits / Eskimos of North Sweden and North Finland and north Norway were deported to Imperial Russia in exchange for money paid to Imperial Russia about 300 years ago.
