You are correct, the average return on index funds is well over 7%, closer to 11 as you said. We use 7% as a reference so we are accounting for inflationary pressures on our net worth. Good video as always sir! 👍

@JoeFromSomewhere23034 ай бұрын
Which is silly to include the inflation by subtracting it from the your investment growth instead of adding it to your expenses. If you make 50k per year you will need at least 2-3% raises to keep up with inflation, which depending on your field you will probably get. If you save 20% of your income, your savings will go up to match inflation. At the same time your investments (let's say 100k) will grow at about 10.5% per year if invested into the S&P500. You will not lose 3% to inflation per year. Inflation will increase the cost of everything including probably how much your employer pays you and how much you save. I think subtracting the inflation from your investment growth, while mathematically correct - sort of - leaves us with a pessimistic view of our investment growth that isn't likely.

I'm disappointed that you don't discuss how inflation has a huge negative impact on investing money in certain ways. How much buying power was that $100k 7 years ago, when compared to the same $100k today - that sort of thing. Obviously, having a plan is better than no plan, but I've seen so many "financial advisers" who told me to invest using them (they want their cut, right?) instead of simply paying off my mortgage at the time. I'm so glad I never listened to them, but now that my home is paid off, I would like to seek out other investment opportunities. I think the biggest issue is that inflation is through the roof, and it seems like holding cash investments are not going to grow enough to combat the inflation.

How can I best grow the 100k I have saved seperately outside retirement access which of course had depleted over the years?

I'm sure Gabe's next 100k was faster than mine. The 2008 financial crisis happened between my first 100k and 200k. Some bad financial choices on my part made things worse (like losing $11,000 buying bank stocks just before they completely crashed and then selling them soon afterward. Washington Mutual went to $0. Remember that bank?)

That's some bullshit 100k will not do anything to your wealth , 10% of 100k is drum 🥁 roll 10k That's not changing anyone's life flip it id say 250k is the new 100k because when you get that much in a index fund your pushing 25k in returns in the uk it's some peoples salary While people like to use 100k example 11 years then 7 years is still a long time that's 18 years of your life In 18 years you learnt to talk, walk and understand emotions as well as go to school potentially have sex and so much more 18 years is a long time Try think of investing in index funds as a game urgency, it so urgent that you put all the excess money you have into your investments not just $500 a month Videos like this one are just copy and paste videos of other videos. 100k no 250k yes
@mysticaltyger20094 ай бұрын
It is a copy and paste video, but to say 100k isn't significant for most people simply isn't true. 10% of 100k is $10,000, as you mentioned. That's more than most people save in a 401k in a year, so even for a fairly aggressive saver, a 10k gain would match what they put in their 401k in a year.
