Why No Aquarium In the World Has a Great White Shark?

Even if you absolutely love aquariums and have been to dozens of them, there's one sea creature you’ll never ever come across there. Not a single aquarium in the world has a great white shark. Is the great white not cool enough to be put on display? Are people afraid of being attacked even when these animals are confined within thick walls made of special glass?
There have been plenty of attempts to hold these creatures captive. In 1955, the first great white was captured and sent to Marineland of the Pacific in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the animal didn't even make it through one day at the oceanarium. Scientists still don't know much about the great white shark, but they have come up with several theories.

SUMMARY
-These massive fish can be spotted in cool coastal waters all over the world. “Human” isn’t on a great white’s menu. In general, there are no more than 10 attacks a year.
-In 1955, the first great white was captured and sent to Marineland of the Pacific in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the animal didn't even make it through one day at the oceanarium. The SeaWorld in San Diego managed to keep a great white for 16 days back in 2003, but they ended up deciding to release the animal back into the ocean.
-Scientists still don't know much about the great white shark, but they have come up with several theories.
-Believe it or not, depression and shock can bring these powerful creatures down.
-No aquarium in the world can provide the animal with conditions to let it move as it does in the wild.
-In a tank, great whites can't move freely, so they develop problems with their respiratory system. What's more, a shark can suffer from hypoxia, or a deficiency of oxygen.
-Since they need to hunt down their prey and eat it alive, they often refuse to eat in captivity.
-You can't even imagine how hard it is to mimic the ocean’s unique water composition.
-Great white sharks are extremely important for keeping the ecological balance in the oceans. Losing just one shark endangers the entire ecosystem. Unfortunately, there are just about 3,500 of them left in the world.

It really depends, We need to learn more about animals so we can know more about our furry, scaley neighbors, it depends on the captor. They need to have a big space to happily explore, and be themselves. It's really a controversial topic in the end though.

I went to an open aquarium not too long ago, and they didnt own any fish or anything. Hense the name, the aquarium opened up into the ocean, and fish kept coming back because of the food they were being given and all that stuff. I saw a great white, and it was honestly a really friendly being

As apex predators, sharks play an important role in the ecosystem by maintaining the species below them in the food chain and serving as an indicator for ocean health. They help remove the weak and the sick as well as keeping the balance with competitors helping to ensure species diversity.

Let's cooprate and fill an aquarium with 15 gallons of sea water and release fishes as per breakfast lunch and dinner( so they can get the thrill of hunting it's prey)~~ I mean they do need oxygen that's why 15 gallons and if they are feeling a little homesick sea water is used and how about a partner? Unless its asexual or doesn't want kids of course :)

What do the Great White Shark do to keep the ecological balance in the ocean? Genuine question
@musadamilola1122
@musadamilola1122 2 жыл бұрын
Shark species, as an apex predator of the sea, are critical to the stability and health of ecological systems. Without these sharks present, prey populations such as pinnipeds or fish will significantly increase. This will subsequently result in a top-down effect in the food chain. Examining the history of the importance of the Great White Shark to the ecosystem is a vital part of understanding its crucial role.

Thank you for this. Before coming across your video, I had just finished watching a video where various captive predators - lions, tigers, polar bears, silverbacks - in captivity were charging the glass of their enclosures trying to get to the human on the other side. Meanwhile, the humans were laughing, telling their children the animal was "just smiling" at them and anthropomorphizing the animal in various ways. But you could see how frustrated these animals were. And the gorilla in particular wasn't attempting to hunt but was pounding on the glass - quite possibly because it took all the direct eye contact as a form of aggression, just as it would in the wild. The whole thing made me sad. Animals aren't in and of themselves deadly to humans. They are behaving according to their nature. Carnivores hunt, and if we insert ourselves in their paths we may become part of the menu if we start behaving like prey. The repeated attempts to hold great whites captive just tells me our nature is apparently to obtain "everything." Does humanity somehow feel entitled to disrupt the natural balance of things because "everyone should get to see a shark up close, or pet a wild cat, etc."? We are largely responsible for the extinction of numerous species and the present endangerment of many others. More on this, as well as efforts some people are taking to help conserve wildlife: news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/05/140529-conservation-science-animals-species-endangered-extinction/ Check in on any of nature's large carnivores -lions, tigers, bears, wolves, leopards, cheetah, jaguar, etc. and all are facing extinction. www.outsideonline.com/1800841/large-predators-going-extinct The loss of any species makes me sad, but the loss of our apex predators should be particularly concerning. Nature works in balance with many times more prey than predators, each serving a purpose in the natural world. Herbivores feed off and control the vegetation and predators control prey numbers, typically catching the old or the weakest of the young. What's more, most apex predators have a success rate when hunting of just 10-20%, with the most successful predators actually being smaller - African wild dogs, the black-footed cat, and our own domestic housecats www.discoverwildlife.com/animals/hunting-success-rates-how-predators-compare In essence, predators keep prey populations healthy. They have a purpose, and if we lose them, the natural balance cannot be maintained. They are not here for our amusement and we have no business caging them or hunting them for wall decorations and bragging rights.
