Vi is the classic "jack of all trades, master of none". She's a great early/midgame duelist, a good tank, fast jungle clears, and offers strong engage or peel. I can't think of any other champion off the top of my head that does all of these things as well as Vi does.

My guess: she's an auto attack heavy diver that focuses on single targets. Her ult puts her way up in a teamfight but she doesn't have the tankiness, crowd control or combat mobility to survive in that situation. In most cases she just trades 1 for 1 and even when she's ahead she doesn't snowball as hard as other junglers.

Except in those games ( ryu as an example) you're still rewarded ( Atleast usually, I heard he finally got fixed in V lmao) for mastery. Vi however is so split between skirmish and burst while having a burst style that shes pretty weak even if balanced against good players. To the point where its the player making up for her failings that they usually pick up another champion as they fight better junglers I'd argue ya know? She’s more of a peeler rather than a diver IMO. She’s great at stoping a sett/Darius from killing your squishes. Her sustained damage and shield is usually enough to chunk them down for your carries to finish them off.

This is correct. Almost everybody plays her wrong and just presses R on the enemy carry instantly. You want to do that after the first flurry of spells has been used already, not at the start. A typical vi teamfight looks like this: Q into the enemy frontline, proc hullbreaker on them and then a few seconds later ulti whoever is the priority target at that time.

I always loved Vi. It makes me sad that her move away from burst hurt her Vi-ability (heh), because her being a scrapper really fits her theming and style. But you are absolutely right that the way her kit is *designed* favors burst, frontloading her combo and following up with another proc of Denting Blows. I'd like a balance between her brawler and burst diver setups, so that she can blow up a squishy, then turn around and try to hammer down another squishy or keep a fellow bruiser busy before she goes down. And taking away the slow on her Q charge would be *so nice*, cuz as you said, the numbers are beaten out by J4 just straight up anymore. Also, I'd argue add to her lockdown theme with some kind of slow on her W or E. Adds stickiness, gives more utility, just needed if they're gonna favor that bruiser style with her a bit.

I feel like something that was neglected to mention or possibly even forgotten about is Most divers have a lot of their damage behind an ability that is NOT their mobility (Hecarim Q, Diana Q + W, Xin Zhao W, etc.) I feel like a better way to improve Vi would actually be shift her power from her Q to her E and W. This way, she isn’t so heavily punished in her burst combo for not landing it and she can actually burst targets more reliably.

3:29 They already fixed this in Wild Rift by changing her W in the pc version into her passive and viceversa and turn her shield into an active ability, now whenever she attack or hit someone with an ability it build up a stack and her shield is increase with every stack, at max stack (5) she gain a shield that absorb (60 + 5% of her health) at rank 1 anyway and gain like 50% movement speed. Weird how they never make that change into the pc version tho

I just feel like I can't do anything as Vi compared to other Divers or Juggernauts personally. She has abilities akin to a Statchecker, but she doesn't seem to statcheck as well as the others that are statcheck in a sense like Voli, or Wukong, not to mention her way of going in as a dive is a bit more risky than the likes of Wukong, and Camille due to it being a charging skillshot dash instead of an instant dash or a leap as well as being on a big cooldown for a simple dash stun that she heavily relies on, meaning that its a lot more risky in terms of her Q usage. Those are my best guesses honestly.

4:12 Proper Vi combo for burst is Q (landed) into auto+E (for attack timer reset and 2nd auto). This pops W, then R, auto, E (2nd W pops). This is generally enough to 100-0 a squishy and comes packed with a lot of CC and the R can't be avoided at all (and generally puts you right next to them, barring interference of other displacement effects on you by enemies). You also have the free AS from your W as soon as the Q+auto+E (and attacking again) is done, so now your dueling is very good too. Spellblade is pretty good on her, but it's also not mandatory to build on her and I often don't end up building spellblade on her at all (I prefer Duskblade for mythic in most games, but Trinity Force is also great on her).

Playing with my own drain tank Vi mid build is some of the most fun I've had playing this game and I mean it, the burst, tankiness and shielding/healing is insane, and I've spent weeks theorycrafting it, Runes: just the usual hail of blades with precision secondary, nothing noteworthy here Build: eclipse every game with either tabis or mercs for boot options, then sterak and spirit visage, just with this items you already have passive shield, sterak shield, eclipse heal and eclipse shield all getting buffed by visage, which is insane value, after that go thornmail, but if you are vs something like yone go bramble before visage, and for the last item either ravenous hydra for more healing, cleaver, for the extra haste and armor shred or stoneplate to be more of a teamfight focused tank that can kill squishies in 4 seconds How to play it: take e level 1, vs melee matchups look for quick auto e auto trades, they can't beat you in short trades because of your passive shield negating all of their damage, vs ranged matchups walk up to minions level 1,and when they try to poke you e a minion, you negate their poke and deal some poke to them in return,both vs ranged and melee champion you can go for a level 2 all in with q and kill them, the damage is extremely high and you will either get a flash or a kill, most people don't know to play passively against you because they have no experience in the matchup, so almost all of my games I either get first blood or force them to flash and either recall or get killed by me under tower, ultimately it all comes down to practicing and limit testong over multiple games but I really reccomend you give it a try

Her biggest weakness is subpar teamfighting (her lockdown, while good is mostly single target, Q is technically AoE but it's small so it's hard to get multiple opponents with it). She is honestly almost an assassin with how good her burst can be when built for and hard to get away from she is, but, like Diana, she lacks any real damage/ability avoidance mechanism that most actual assassins have. Her subpar teamfighting is why she isn't all that popular now, as the meta heavily favors teamfight champions (notice how many well-known split-pushers aren't as popular as they used to be? This is why.)

9:30 Pro tip: If you miss Q you still generally end up really near them. In this case, auto them, E, then auto a 3rd time to get your 3 hits and AS quickly (you can auto-E-E if you're desperate to get dmg down fast, but it's better to use e after a regular auto to maximize the value of the animation cancel). Not to mention hold a charge of E so you can activate your innate passive as soon as it's back off CD is really helpful in close duels.

Been playing Vi for years mostly because she can perform decently in almost any meta, assassin? go burst, tank? go aftershock, bruiser? grab a triforce, I mainly play her as a fighter with triforce but will change it up occaisonally, phage allows her to keep up with opponents and building stuff like sterak's or DD gives her good survivability

hes a tank that loses every lv 3/4 scuttle fight /invade. like i think even a kain can win that 1v1 early. However hes has insane late game. main reason is really doe, hes a tank and you cant make a penta with him ........

@@nsreturn1365 but you can easily get double on adc and enchanter supp bcs your dmg is insane for a tank. I can understand your early game argument tho. He's basically as good as support in early game, and his role is to support by perma ganking and giving out cc so your allies can get kills

I feel like every time I intend to pick him at least one of the opponents can counter my engage. It can be a Thresh, Janna, Lulu etc that simply stop my E or other champs that make followup from my team difficult or irrelevant. It's also quite awkward that Zac is kind of gank focused but needs levels so he can engage from reasonable ranges.

VI remains i of my 2 jungle "mains" (other is zac) she is my AD pick for when i dont reeealy trust my team. one of her strenghts is that even if far behind her ult into Q combo is basikly unstoppable

I think she needs a small rework to further enhance the what they were going for with the brawling theme. Making her assassinlike makes me role my eyes, she will just be another diver that has nothing special beyond just killing a guy and than dying. So many champs do this already. Dont cater to the meta, create a more intesting one. I dont want to see 40 cookie cutter champs per role as that what will eventually happen if this is the main design philosophy going foward. So, to enhance i would lets say. P: let the shield be regenerated every hit with the fist. The whole getting energy back through kenetic energy. Q: let her dash faster per lvl as you stated W: add active charges(like the current E ) that give staggering effects to the opponant. as in a rapid decrasing heavy slow. E: Just a single charge and you can use the AOE without hitting anyone. This while still retaining any on-hit effects. R: classic, feels nice to use, love it, dont change it. Off-course some numberes need to be changes around to keep it balanced. Also overall i would change the animations and sound effects on Vi to sound way more visceral. Just like the show. She is not lightly tapping people or playfully punching you. she is beating the living shit out of you. The gameplay doesnt reflect this. I dont feel like i am hitting people with giant heavy steel magical gloves. So far only the Ult and Q give me the feeling. Autoattackes need to come with. Just play more into the theme until it works. I love her design, but there is a lot of room for improvement. modernize her and make her even more unique.

I mained her for several seasons, its almost exactly as u said, she can feel clunky and shes rly dependant on hitting her q, the one part i would disagree is that she doesnt have a very fast clear, she gets outpaced by a lot of junglers, although her clear is relatively healthy, if they made her q cast time scale with lvls or something else she would finaly be worthy of picking, anyways rly good and informative video i enjoyed it.

@@blopstudio I can’t speak for your experiences, but I would say that I see her in 1/30 games I play. And from what I’ve seen from sites like champion.gg she has about a 5% pick rate. I personally love her and she’s my go to when I play jungle. It’s just strange to me how such a stable champion with the right conditions can dominate an entire game doesn’t have as many mains as other junglers.

In wild rift her w has an activable that makes her gain up to 5 stacks, when activated depending on how many stacks she got she gains a shield and if she activates the w with 5 stacks she gets movement speed too, I haven't seen or played Vi since january but since the meta is different in the 2 games do you think bringing this to lol pc would help her at least in the current meta? As you said she lacks stick potential and that kinda gives it to her even if she has to hit 5 times.

I haven't played Wild Rift yet, but I'm surprised to hear they've made the champions different between the two. Is there a reason you think why she'd get a stacking ability in Wild Rift but doesn't have it in LoL? Are there other champions that are changed between the two?

@@fragglerocker8316 there are some champions that have different details, teemo is basically another champion, but 90% or more of the champions are the same. The only reason I can think of why they made these changes are 1 for the map difference, wr has a smaller map, and 2 maybe because they wanted to try things with champions that maybe will be part of a future small rework on lol pc

I play a lot of Vi in the Mid lane and I think this route fits her better. Vi has one of the best base HP regen in the game, so coupled with a Doran Shield, she outsustains everyone while her E is a incredible skill for laning, as it means free poke, push and has low mana. Basically, you use her Q only to escape ganks or go all-in, you lane almost only with E (you max it first). In lane, her ult also means a free kill as she deals a LOT of damage. What I build for her is: Trinity Force (aspd and sheen effect), Blade of the Ruined King and Ravenous Hydra are her cores, but you can build a Wit's End if needed. Then I usually go for a Guardian Angel and something like a Sterak. I really think that's her best role, specially in this meta.

I main Vi in mid, the mythic is frostfire to help with sticking. I love the w shield resets, tbh its my favorite part of her kit managing the passive shield is where most of her skill expression is..... that and landing q.

I also want to say that she’s one of the better design wise with her abilities. She loves violence like her sister, good at chasing and beating down criminals, and is fine with being in risky situations as an officer against the harsh Zaun. Her mobility is harsh and aggressive, her shield allows her to turn tides and survive getting beaten down, and her damage boost could be better but it’s nice in the sense of controlling the enemies. It all fits her really well.
